Buying A Car And Learning Stick
SPEAKER_022002. So we finally bought a car for my son.

SPEAKER_02We found the right one. Right.
SPEAKER_04The right one.
SPEAKER_02On Friday, yep, we drove down to Chantilly, and it was the one we had, you know, had it as our second look at, and we saw it, and it interior and exterior was so much better than the other one. And the the sales guy actually would negotiate with me. And like he did come down off the price and to what we felt was a fair price and we agreed upon and did all that. And so my son is now learning how to drive stick because he does not know how to drive manual.
SPEAKER_01Wait, his car.
SPEAKER_02Oh I drove the last time I drove a manual car was probably 20 to 25 years ago.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_02But I did learn how to drive stick when I was younger, but I just never drove stick.
SPEAKER_03Because it just doesn't have them around.
SPEAKER_02Right. And even even nowadays, if you order a car and you want it manual, it has to be like a it's a special order. Like the everything they ship is automatic. Yeah, of course. Um so he can't get out of first gear. He's stalled the car probably at least 30 to 40 times. He'll get it.
SPEAKER_04Oh, that's easy.
SPEAKER_02I feel bad for the car. Because I'm like, and I we'll get to a point, I'm like, let's give the car a break. Let's just let's just give it a little break. It needs to breathe. And then I'll I'll drive it. And I'll, you know.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So a clutch will be the first thing he repairs on it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Because he's totally clutching it. Anyway, so we did buy a car.
SPEAKER_01It's very bold of him to purchase a car that he can't drive.
SPEAKER_02Right. And he knows he has to learn how to drive it. Yeah. He's now getting frustrated because we've been out for three days trying and he's he's he'll get it and then he can't find that spot again to between gas and clutch. And yeah.
SPEAKER_03So does the model that he wanted, did that come in a manual or automatic?
SPEAKER_02Uh I think that year it did the first year in 2012, no, it was all they were all manual. They were all manual. But I think in 2013 they did start making them manual and automatic. Okay. So, but the problem is with the automatic version, is they literally took an engine out of like a Jeep Cherokee and dropped it into this little tiny car. Right. So it's an overpowered. So basically, right, and it ends up blowing itself off. Of course it does. Oh my god. It can't handle that much power. But that's that's what Chrysler did. Oh, they love it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, when they buy that, you know, that's what I asked.
SPEAKER_01Wait, they are the fiat owners. Yeah, Chrysler owns fiat now.
SPEAKER_02And even this one was made by Chrysler. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02Anyway, so just a quick up-to-speed on the car because I went on like 10 minutes on the car last week and that was a little long. Sorry, but that's amazing. I love stories. Um another quick news. Monday, the dishwasher guy actually showed the fuck up and replaced the motherboard in the dishwasher, and we've had a dishwasher now for two days.
SPEAKER_01Incredible.
SPEAKER_02Out of the eight months of this year, we washed dishes by hand for six of those months. That is insanity. Oh my god. Yes. Yes. I'm just what did we do before technology?

SPEAKER_02Right. Right. Well, but dishwashers, what did we say? They were they were first one was like in the late 1800s or something like that. Yeah, of course. Yeah. And in our house, also we have six people, and my wife and I are the only ones washing the dishes by hand. So the kids still make their, you know, you know, bowls and this and that. And we had like paper plates and paper bowls we used as much as possible. And but it was just like, oh my God, so tired of washing fucking dishes. The dishwasher's running right now, actually. It's I can't even hear it. It's so amazing. So quiet. So so quiet. Um, I just wanted to also touch base real quick. Uh, have you guys seen the Burning Man documentary on HBO? No. Zero D. Burn the Man? No. No? None at all. Uh is that the name of it? Uh I think it's called it's Burning Man, Burn the Man. Burnt Man. Or Burnt. Burn the Man, I think is what it's called. Anyway. Burn them all. I it's a four-part, you know, limited little series thing, a documentary, and it actually documents from the year COVID happened up through 2024, I believe.

SPEAKER_02Because you know, after you know, they canceled the COVID year and then they canceled the year after that, and everybody fucking was losing their shit because they were canceling a year later, and they're like, well, we can still wear masks, but we were still wearing masks. We were still like, 24 years. So yeah, it wasn't until 2022 when they finally got back around to you know, doing it safely and all that for so I I find the whole like just the thing about it fascinating that like you know, you you bring your own food, you bring your own water, you bring your own tent or your RV, or you bring you bring it all yourself, and it's like, and there's no money, there's no buying stuff, there's no I mean you trade with people showers either. Yeah, well, I mean they do makeshift showers, but but yeah, you're out in the or someone like brings a portable shower and you trade them for a baked potato, right?
SPEAKER_03Or something a whole baked potato, exactly.
SPEAKER_02Well, it depends what you need. If you're out of food and you all, you know, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Anyway, I find it fascinating that how it's organized and how much goes into it and how much it costs them a year to throw it's something like six million dollars to put that festival on every year. And you know, with the the Burning Man population, the burners, they're called, oh yeah, that you know, go every year, you know, you know, complain when the prices go up and blah blah. But they have to pay to rent that land to throw this festival on. Not like in a giant park or anything, and they have to pay a ton of employees to like organize the whole thing. Like they build security, they build like roads and put up road signs and like you parking.
SPEAKER_04They do that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they do so it's like yeah, crazy. After watching this, I still have absolutely zero fucking urge to go. I never want to go to Burning Man. I interested.
SPEAKER_01It was Did they have one of the years that it like completely rained?
SPEAKER_02Yes, they had that year in it too when it was on. Yes, and they got stuck there for another week and a half because they had to wait for the roads were like mud in the cars. Yeah, they go over that in like I think in part three. Wow. So yeah, it's it's so it's a good watch. You know, you're seeing all this stuff and you know that you've heard about too. And you know, I mean, as an artsy person, you know, I was a musician, I you know, songwriter. You know, I I get the whole artsy side of that and the appeal to the people that it you know brings it in, and it seems very cool, but zero desire whatsoever to ever go to a burning pencil. Too much hippie, too much hippie. I can't. I already have issues with heat also, and like they're dirty days out on the plot. There's a freaking desert, it's wide open, and then windstorms come in, and it's just like, oh my god, just hideous. Like, why would you do that to yourself?
SPEAKER_03Could you imagine the acts that are out there too, though? I mean, they they gotta go and perform in all this stuff too. The acts they get treated. No, it's not Coachella. Oh, I see. I keep uh okay. Well, where can manhack this is just okay?
SPEAKER_02This is just a giant camping trip that's a big camping trip, and then yeah, there's like you know, people that build floats and stuff, and like one of them is like a big DJ float with like the sound system and like it's like doot doot does.
SPEAKER_03Okay, yeah, yeah, okay, yeah, yeah. Oh yes, perfect.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. All night long. So anyway, so I just wondered if you guys had seen it, but I I recommend it. It's a good watch. I mean, it's a hollow uh it's an HBO documentary, so yeah. It's a holiday film, it's a holiday film, it's for all the kids to watch too. There's no nudity in it. Perfect.
SPEAKER_03Perfect. It'll sell it so that they don't go.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly. And the thing is, people bring their kids to Burning Noves. Oh, I don't know. Like there were there were people there like, yeah, they bring their kids because the parents are like, we want our kids to experience, you know, this and sharing them. It is very hippie-ish and you know, yeah, but it's cult. Yeah, cult hippie cult.
SPEAKER_01I wonder when it's gonna kind of literally burn out. Who knows?
SPEAKER_02I don't think it will. It keeps getting bigger and bigger each year.
SPEAKER_01And they actually have to limit it to keep selling it to other people and it's just and and they have to pay to go, right?
SPEAKER_02They have to buy tickets and reserve their spots.
SPEAKER_01And the tickets now is anti-Burning Man too.
SPEAKER_02But again, they have to pay for it. So and like they they go through in the documentary how like they needed funding and they were asking people, but you know, like but the two guys that created Google, they go every year and they're billionaires. And you know, it's just like why don't they fund it? They do. Okay, they do, and they're not gonna be. Dude, you gotta watch it and see where the I guess don't ask me the question.
SPEAKER_03I'm guessing the costs would be the problem.
SPEAKER_02All right, uh, Big Brother, real quick. Yeah, go ahead. I did I didn't know. You didn't do your big brother again for two weeks in a row.
SPEAKER_01I did do partial last time, but basically only two episodes now because they have that stupid Wednesday, Sunday, right?
SPEAKER_03And then I watched the Thursday's eviction. A Monday show the uh Sunday night show review show.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the Sunday night. Okay. Anyway, so Lyric got surprise voted out. Really? Yes, because there it was supposed to be melody,
Big Brother Drama And Wall Challenge
SPEAKER_02everybody was voting melody, but then there were four or five people that flipped at the last minute and they voted Lyric out. Weird and so the look on Haley's face, the shocked, dead-eyed look like she doesn't know what just hit her.
SPEAKER_01I felt so bad for her.
SPEAKER_02Uh I did too, and then but I also thought literally the day before that, she was the one wanting to get Lyric out of there when she was on her little drinking spree and talking to Kamu about how like you know she had a crush on him and all that cross.
SPEAKER_01So she's not the one. She's not the one I felt sorry for.
SPEAKER_02Who?
SPEAKER_01The other the girl, the little girl who's friends with Melody and Lyric.
SPEAKER_02Mallory?
SPEAKER_01Mallory. Did you say Mallory or did you say Haley?
SPEAKER_02Haley. Haley was HOHA.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I don't feel bad for her. I feel bad for Mallory.

SPEAKER_01Because Lyric like threw her under the bus.

SPEAKER_01And poor girl was like, what?

SPEAKER_02The girl drama. So anyway, so Lyric went home and she's already back in Hawaii. Wow, that was quick.
SPEAKER_03I thought they sequestered them for Oh no, I guess they don't.
SPEAKER_02She's now they fly them back for the finale night when they're before before it gets to jury when they are sequestered. Right. The first like, you know, what six people or something like that gets. They just go. Okay. Okay. Well that's probably best. They basically do two days of press after they get evicted, and the CBS hands them their ticket and said, here's your flight back. If you want to change any of it, or you want to stay here in LA for a little longer, that's all on you. But you've got to pay any ticket transfer fees. This is your ticket, go home.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, she's already back in Hawaii, and you know, she has not met back up with Rome yet. But I guess Rome's flying to Hawaii or something. I don't know. I they should put like the Taylor Swift jet tracker on, like they did for the Super Bowl that year.
SPEAKER_01See if she can make it and uh see when Rome makes it to Hawaii to how long do you think it's gonna take for that one to burn out? Speaking of burnt. Relationship? Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I don't think. Yeah, I don't. I think they if they do get married, that's not gonna last long in marriage either, but whatever. Well, you never know. You never know. It's happened before. There's been big brother couples that evolved, of course. No, was it was it even two weeks? It was no, it was two days. That's day two, he was already sleeping in her pod.

SPEAKER_03Yeah, you didn't they didn't even give it, yeah. They were they were right into it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but even like how long were they even together? Was it was he the first one out? No, he was the second one. Okay, so it was literally two weeks they spent together. So ten days of uh being a couple and then pretty much, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, okay. Ish, give her ish, right. Anyway, so then then was the famous wall challenge for the HOH, yeah, where you hang from the wall as long as you can. Of course, Angela falls off with 28 seconds. I at least thought she'd make it like six minutes or so. Right. No, and my wife said three, and then she literally fell off in twenty-eight seconds. Whatever is that a record?
SPEAKER_01She is being dragged along.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah. Yeah, totally.
SPEAKER_01I mean, good for her. Last year was such a nightmare for her.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I'm kind of glad that you know, people are taking what she says into to heart, you know, and making making some of her moves because last year she's nowhere near as chaotic as she was last year.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. Right. And she said that at the beginning of this this year. She was like, she goes, I've touched, I'm changing up my game. I'm not playing that way. I'm just, yeah. So she's actually been tolerable.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, she has.
SPEAKER_02But we'll see. Um, so then Lala ends up wending the the wall challenge, and she is the oldest contestant to ever win the wall challenge. It's usually a young 21, 22-year-old. Yeah, who's like thin, like usually a female, and you know. So, but Lala, she's what, 56? She's she won the wall comp. Representative. She's awesome. Yeah, exactly. Tell me I don't look her age. It's all right. I don't know. Do you have a tattoo down there? Oh, hello.

Wild Hogs Put Neighbors On Alert
SPEAKER_02Because there's two more houses in my neighborhood that just went on sale this week. Something else. Seriously. Something else. Hang that, hang those boots up. Yes.

SPEAKER_01Because they come at like dusk or whatever, so everybody's on alert and they're ready to kill them. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_03Could you imagine that in here around us?
SPEAKER_01Did you imagine the open gunfire? The sun starts going down and everybody's just what if they're in my yard and then suddenly like open fire in my front yard, and all the guys, it's good. It's like a um at the bat signal.

Um she seems to be moving around more and she's um graduated to Kane. Cool. So we're up to Kane now. Yeah, so she's doing really good. We also we did a full circle uh circle of the Costco last time we went. So she's definitely um moving up uh with the uh range of motion and everything. So yeah, she's doing really good. Really good. Nice, very proud of her.

Mom PT Progress And FedEx Chaos
SPEAKER_03just just the groceries uh in the cart this time, not mine. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Extra weight. Um, yeah, but I did strap uh some 50-pound weights to her legs so she got a little more of a workout. So she had some, yeah. Yeah, well, I mean, come on, therapy. I'm I'm the caregiver, remember. I gotta I gotta get her going. So that's I gotta get her thinking. Yep. But I did have a problem. Okay. We is this a correction? This is not a correction, this is a uh opening uh salvo of uh of of problems that I have in my life. Um one, this is the uh FedEx person that comes to my house. I would say that they really do need to train them how to drive correctly. Now, my driveway is not the easiest driveway. You've got a binding. It's a little turny, right? Okay, but you're a FedEx driver, okay? You go up and down driveways all the time. All the time. And this is a super long driveway. If you can't figure out how to get down the driveway again without doing the three-point turn in the top, don't try it. Because this guy bounced off both sides of my driveway at least four times back and down. And I've got major like big rocks along like lining the side. We had to replace and and remove them all and like everywhere he hit because he was bouncing his tires off it.
SPEAKER_00Oh, goodness.
SPEAKER_03And I'm like, dude, you were a FedEx driver. You are not representing the drivers in the world right now. I'm telling you right now, and Lisa lost her mind. And my wife, she goes running out of the house, screaming at this guy. I mean, I went to the front door and was asking, he was he was hanging out the window once he finally got down near the bottom of the driveway. And he was telling me that the package was at the garage. And I go, okay, that's great. Um, could you not come up my driveway if you can't back down the driveway? Because I would have just as easily could have left that at the bottom of my driveway. I would have, I wouldn't have had a problem. He tried. I guess, but trying means damaging everything along the way. Because that seemed like he hit everything. Like he just zigzagged down my driveway. Wow. He had no game whatsoever. None. So yeah, fat acts do better. Drivers do better. So gosh darn it. I do have a handful of corrections. Okay, a handful of corrections. Okay, so let's get to the corrections. Um, the Joker 2, we talked about that. Um, the Lady Gaga character was actually not Harley Quinn. Okay. She was Lee Quinzel. Now, actually, her real name as a doctor was Harley Quinzel, which came as Harley Quinn. So they kind of did a little bit of it, but they didn't do all of it. And she went by Lee Quinzel. And in the movie, she wasn't a doctor, she was one of the patients.
Quick Corrections And Fact Checks
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay. So that's kind of way off base from the story. So yeah, that's kind of one of the problems they had with it. That it didn't follow canon. Um, and you know, the nerds, they all yeah, they all want it to be you know matchy matchy. Um the e-got for Elton John. Um his Emmy was for Outstanding Variety Special for his concert, uh Farewell from Dodger Stadium. Oh, yeah. Oh, right. I do remember that one. Yep. I have the others too. Grammy, he won multiple uh Grammy uh wins. Um for the Academy, he won Best Original Song for Lion King. Yep, Can You Feel the Love Tonight? Um and his Tony, he won Best Musical Score for Aida. Oh I did not know that. So yeah, there we go.

SPEAKER_02Right, right, like the other stage version of it.
SPEAKER_03Right, oh yes, right, right. Um, and then uh Nintendo uh started in 1889. They actually made playing cards, like actual like 52 deck. Yeah, okay.

2002 True Crime And Terror
SPEAKER_01gas in Manassas. Ten minutes later, people were shot at that gas station.

SPEAKER_01Then I, for my job, I was working in False Church. I went to the post office that day. That late afternoon was when he shot people at Home Depot in False Church.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah. In the False Church. Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_01Then about a month later, I went on um anti-anxiety medication. Oh my well, that's you know, it's it's doable. So for me, it's too much.
SPEAKER_02So for me in 2002, I had recorded my record and was out promoting it, and that the shooting stuff started, and it was probably like a week or so into it, and people were really getting freaked out. And that's when my tour started, and I got the hell out of Dodge. I was like, All right, I'm heading to Colorado. Start first leg of the tour. That's crazy. It's on me. I'm innocent because I'm not even here. The shootings are still happening.
SPEAKER_01And your van was not white.
SPEAKER_02Yes, exactly.
SPEAKER_01Thank goodness.
SPEAKER_03Of a car? Yeah, they were they had they were. Yeah, it was the trunk of a car and one of them was driving, the other one was actually in the back, and then they would back into it and then shoot from the trunk. Right. And then take off.
SPEAKER_01They had like a hole cut. I was it like under the license plate or something. Something they could see out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they couldn't see where it was coming from.
SPEAKER_03Right. No one knew. It was just wall cars anyway.
SPEAKER_01They parked across the street. Like that Home Depot was like, ah, I always forget the road, like 50 or 236 or something. It was like a six-lane highway. Yeah. And they parked across that.
SPEAKER_03Right. And they were shooting trapping. Yes. How did they hit anyone? And to be honest.
SPEAKER_02I mean, yeah, how did they not hit somebody on a car?
SPEAKER_03In the car driving by. Who knows, right?
SPEAKER_01When I think they were like up on up on a hill, like looking down, but they were so far away. And that's why they couldn't figure out who the hell it was.
SPEAKER_02Right. Because they were it was thinking it was closer, like that.
SPEAKER_03Not that we're giving anyone ideas on how to make this work, but yeah, right. Yeah, let's not no we're not advocating any of that. I mean, that's it.
SPEAKER_01That was so scary though. Oh my god. Yeah. That was so scary.
SPEAKER_03The thing was, it was just something you did every day. It wasn't like a bank robbery or uh, you know, it was something that I'm just pumping gas. And I and it wasn't like personal Michaels to get some fabric and get shot in the parking lot. Exactly.
SPEAKER_01That was like their their whole well, I don't believe it was the teenage boy who had this plan. It was the guy, right, who enlisted him. Right. But yeah, that was their their whole thing. Was just like random terror, like terror. How many people died in that? Ten people. Yeah. Over the course of like three weeks, right? Three and a half weeks or something like that. Yeah. The guy was mowing his lawn. Oof.
SPEAKER_02I mean, like I don't remember that one, but I remember the ones like, yeah, the Home Depot and the Michaels gas station. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I think the lawn guy was in Maryland. Wow. And then they kept going back and forth, like DC, Maryland, for some years. Yeah, it was all over the place. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_02It wasn't just like one isolated area. Right.

SPEAKER_02They were in a car. Crazy.
SPEAKER_01And then then Lacey Peterson, you know Lacey Peterson?

SPEAKER_01Yeah. And she pretty much admitted that she did it. Like there was no it wasn't me kind of thing. But now people are trying to pin it on her husband.

There was a little suspiciousness going on in the neighborhood at the time, and people saw saw her evidently at like this Rando gas station. Like she was being held there.

SPEAKER_01It was a mess. Now, this one I didn't didn't remember, but there was a bank robbery in Norfolk, Nebraska. You don't hear about bank robberies anymore.

SPEAKER_01And I always wonder why do people think they can rob a bank? Like that's been provably almost impossible to do.
SPEAKER_03You realize there's not a lot of money in a bank.
SPEAKER_01There's not a lot of money there.
SPEAKER_03Because we do transfer a lot of stuff electronically, and the stuff that gets cashed are checks.
SPEAKER_02So I mean, how much do you think a bank has on hand? Like a hundred thousand?
SPEAKER_03I think Lisa would be able to answer that. She was a bank manager.
SPEAKER_04Oh, right. At some point. So I will get that total.
SPEAKER_03It isn't because they fill the ATMs with what they have. And then they do have uh drawers they cash out. But yeah, there is not, and there's so many safeguards. Uh there's like a a stack of money in there that they could pull that sets the alarm. Well, no, it's it pulls the alarm. So once you pull that amount, that money out, like it's a hundreds or whatever, right? You pull that stack, it's the alarm's already already. Right. The sensor goes off. It's already done. So they have safeguards in that where they don't have to like push a button and there's a giant light that goes off. Or you know, it's like, yeah, there's no buzzes and bells or anything. No, it doesn't, or locks everybody in. No, it doesn't do any of that.
SPEAKER_01These three bank robbers killed five people in under a minute.
SPEAKER_02Oh, geez. They just went in like gangster style. Ugh. It's like heat.

And then you're there. All of a sudden, an event like that occurs, and they happen, these events happen all the time, like just it just happened. But just imagine being that unlucky. Yeah, being the one that's in there.
SPEAKER_01This state trooper the day after the bank robbery murders killed himself because a week before the murders, he had stopped one of them for a traffic violation.

And you got like, you know, 20 seconds of the song. Right. And like you could make it your ringtone. Sweet. Yeah. So I did chart on that. So I was popular in Japan for like a week. So there were docuseries after docuseries uh associated with and reinvestigating the footprints and the locations and the videos and all this other stuff. So in 2002, they reignited uh for Seattle uh the Bigfoot section of their uh um souvenir shops.

SPEAKER_02There were different ones in there, but I think the last batch that they released was better. And then this last batch was just like eh, like, okay, cool, got it, was also saw some more. There was also some artist renditions of actual photos that were put in there because I looked at them like, well, that just looks fair. Oh, it's an artist rendition. I was like, okay, that is and then they showed the clip of a real one again, and like, oh okay, there it is. So, all right, they're slowly releasing stuff. I'm loving it. I'm loving it. Okay, okay. What other myths, Dave?
SPEAKER_03Oh, oh, sorry, sorry. Um, yeah, we had um the myth of the airplane toilet vacuum. This was basically the story uh that has since been debunked. That uh passengers were getting sucked into the toilet when they flushed, going to the bathroom because supposedly the air uh pulls all of the bad stuff out of the toilet and into an area, but they think that it was being pulled out and then thrown out into the space or out into the sky, and and the vacuum would suck people into it where they would get stuck in the toilet.
SPEAKER_01This doesn't sound like a 2002 story, it sounds like something that would have come out like the minute those toilets were invented.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. You would think, but uh yeah, this was a 2002 cray cray. Yeah. Um, and then um the other one that I had here was the dot exe files hoax.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I kind of remember those.
SPEAKER_03These were email chains that went out that said these files have um viruses attached to them, or at least uh they're being used w to um I guess uh cause problems with your computer, and people were deleting them. It turns out that the files that were listed in the emails were actual functioning OS files, meaning these were the things that ran your freaking computer. So when they did delete them, their systems just didn't work anymore. Right. So yay. They'd have to reinstall the entire iOS. Uh the whole thing. The whole computer would just be a paperweight at that point. And so yeah, they were going through all their little PCs and destroying them. Yeah, they were completely. You don't remember that at all. I don't remember that. No, there's no recollection. And the weird thing is, is today I just got one that said uh my Amazon account needed to be re-uh redone.

SPEAKER_03Oh, I don't even do that. And you I responded and said, Well, my wife uh handles the money, I don't have an Amazon account. She doesn't let me buy any.
