Elevator Video Context And Confusion
SPEAKER_011992. So, Dave, I finished watching that Elisa Lamb uh documentary about the Cecil Mo Motel in LA. So we so Dave and I last week we talked about this on the show. And so after the show, after you left Joanne, we st we jumped into the documentary, but we jumped in at episode two of where we could always see the video. Because yeah, because in the little picture it shows you know her in the elevator video. So we're thinking, okay, that's going to be primarily just talking about the thing. And then they start going into the back history of the hotel and all this stuff. And Dave and I are like, this is just set up so weird. It's bizarre. Okay, I went back and started it from the beginning. It all makes sense now. So episode one? It does. Yeah. I watched all four episodes and went back to episode one, started at the beginning, and then was like, okay, episode two makes sense now. And then so they do spend a lot more time in episode one on. I think they actually show it pretty much in its entirety. Okay. Or at least a good two and a half to three minutes out of the four. There's a lot more.
SPEAKER_02But that's where everything went sideways for us. Because we were the question to watch that video part, and we were like, oh, it's right there.
SPEAKER_01Let's watch that. And then we're totally lost.
SPEAKER_00I think the history was very important to know like the legend behind it and why it kind of yeah, it was it was a mystery.
SPEAKER_01Dave and I are dumbasses and we watched the long episodes. We needed instant gratification.
SPEAKER_00Of course. I get it. I get it.
SPEAKER_01So Dave in the first one they address the door stayed open because when she got in the elevator, she pushed all the middle buttons from the top down, and the top one was 14, and the very bottom is a single middle button that is a door hold button. And she pressed down the center row, and they know that she was on the 14th floor because when she pressed the very top button, it lit up and then it went out, which that means it tells you that she was on that floor because you can't go to a floor you're on. Right. And then all the floors below, so every time, like you know, yeah. So but the very bottom was a door hold button that she pushed.
SPEAKER_02And the hold it to hold the door, like not on some of those older elevators, no.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and it just held it held the door open until you uh you press another button to go.
SPEAKER_00Wasn't there something about how she got off at, let's say, floor 14, but that was not the top of the hotel, so she would have had to go down and crawl out this window or something?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because there was no the elevator doesn't go to the roof. It only went to a certain floor, and then that was one of the theories that she went, got out of the the the elevator at the floor fourteen, went down the hall, went around the corner, and there's a window to the fire escape because they have to have you know in old hotels and stuff like that, they had fire escapes in them to you know to get out of the building. And she climbed the ladder up to the roof. So, but they were saying that that probably wasn't accurate because there was no evidence, like you know, that they could find that she actually did that, and it was a very steep climb up that ladder to get up to the roof. So they think that she just used, you know, the roof access door, which had an alarm on it, but the alarm may have been deactivated. So it was yeah, it's a it yeah. Anyway, I watched all four episodes. It was worth the watch. But the one thing that really bothered me was the musician guy morbid from Mexico, Joanne. Yes, who he was cyberbullied by all of these like fucking people that were trying to figure out how she was murdered and killed, and he got cyberbullied as he was the well, he was the one that killed her.

SPEAKER_01He hadn't he went to the hotel and visited there a year before she ever got there. They weren't there at the same time. He was in Mexico recording
Cyberbullying And Needing Real Facts
SPEAKER_01an album. It was like people are so bored. And the cyberbullying, and he d he addresses that. He goes, I he goes, I was ready to like take my own life because of the way the people were talking to me. And I'm like, that is horrible. That is so like these idiots on the internet that have no fucking evidence and don't have access to all of the evidence and jump to these conclusions and like it just ridiculous.
SPEAKER_00That's why we need facts, always facts. That's the thing.
SPEAKER_01But everything's AI now, so who knows? You know, it looks fake. Um we we thought you know, chicken uh fried ice cream was an AI fake thing.

They met on July 19th in the World Cup.

SPEAKER_01And you know, it it definitely has an Academy Award feeling type movie, but it feels like an old movie that was more current, which is kind of weird to describe. But anyway, because it happens in 1944.
Movie Nights And Pop Culture Conspiracies
SPEAKER_01It's very good. So it's a period piece, but yeah.
SPEAKER_02It is a period piece, and you don't like period pieces.
SPEAKER_01Now, period pieces for me, I don't like the old, you know, you know, the queen of England and you know, oh, we're old. Because it takes pride and prejudice. Yeah, and also I love Dangerous Liaison, though.
SPEAKER_00Dangerously liaison was awesome. I love that. Another thing that I don't usually like, so I don't like old movies. I do like period pieces, but I don't like war movies. And I don't like movies that flashback. This entire movie is a flashback. Is a flashback. Half is a flashback, half of it takes place during war. The other half is like Lawrence of Arabia.
SPEAKER_01It's all lined up for you to hate it and you love it. All of it. And you love it.

Joanne Joanne is behind on it. And I don't know why, because the cast is really good this season and it's they're a lot of fun. And I, you know, I'm I'm into them.

Big Brother Season Reactions

SPEAKER_00I have a major complaint about it. When I was trying to watch the episodes, I went to CBS.

SPEAKER_00And it was unavailable to stream. There was an error. Okay. I went to Paramount Plus and there was some kind of technical error.
SPEAKER_02Of course.
SPEAKER_00And I could not watch it there, and I could not watch it on the YouTube TV. It was the same technical error. So that happened to me two episodes.
SPEAKER_02That's interesting.
SPEAKER_00So he's not pleased.

SPEAKER_00But I got you know, I'm watching it and I'm like, it's the two survivor players like getting their little guru together.

SPEAKER_01Yeah, that his mom and yeah, got got her to react, and that was that was a dick move.

SPEAKER_00Um I also didn't, but then I didn't like how um they all ganged up on Rome.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that was a little unfair, I think. And a little, I mean, it was like he's running the other side of the house. Let's get on here.

SPEAKER_01Right. But I did like that Devons mixed it up and didn't doesn't play safe. Because usually the first two to three weeks are all like, oh yeah, we just kind of don't like this person. Let's vote him out. And it's a house unanimous thing. And he was like, no, let's get get our hands dirty, let's get into this. And I'm like, cool.
SPEAKER_00Those survivor players are really good for. The one and I never remember their names, right? Okay, okay. The girl who got evicted this week, she was the one when I, yes, when I was watching the intros, that I'm like, I cannot stand her. So I'm glad she's gone, but she actually turned out to be, I thought, very nice. Yeah, she just really graded on my nerves in the intros.

SPEAKER_01And throws it up on the screen. Yeah, that's his engineer. I think he I think he builds them and puts them together. Yeah. Because even in the very first episode, it showed him up on like, you know, the scissor lift and he was like pulling the panel out. Engineering and electrical floor.
SPEAKER_02And then um, Melody, what is a corporate game show host? Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so when you work for a corporation, they want to make everybody happy, right? Uh okay. So they hire people to come in and do team building. Oh, so they'll have like bring in like let's do Jeopardy as a corporation. She probably does it at like conventions or you know, big team meetings or something.

Birthday Shoutouts And Date Amnesia
SPEAKER_00But I do not remember like I don't remember years when things happen in when the year they happened.

SPEAKER_00Like, you know, you go to the doctor and they're like, What what surgeries have you had and when?
SPEAKER_01And I'm like, And you're like, oh yeah, right. When they asked the dates on that, yeah, I'm the same way.

SPEAKER_02Why don't they have that in my medical record? Right. Like you should. Why are you even asking me? Right.
SPEAKER_00So the the some of the years I can remember off the top of my head, and you'll have to help me with this. Um, I neglected to mention that my favorite brother-in-law, who's my well, he's not my only brother-in-law, uh, Greg, was born in 1976. Does he listen? Uh, probably not.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Okay. Then why is he upset? I'm sure he is. Yes.
SPEAKER_00He just turned 50 on the table in July. So we had a little bicentennial baby thing for him, dinner for him last week. So he was born in 1976.

SPEAKER_00Okay. And then this year or this week is 1992. Yes. And that is when my daughter Allie was born. So I'm proactively shouting out Allie for 1992.

SPEAKER_00And everybody was born in 70 and 71.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_01All right. So, Dave, we sent him out on a little journey this evening. Wow. Um, and it couldn't have been a busier day for me to do it. His mom had hip surgery. Yes. And he's been at the hospital all day. And then he raced over here in the pouring rain and thunderstorms. Tornado warnings. Tornado warnings, everything to get here to record the show. But we asked him to make a stop on the way.
SPEAKER_02So, Dave, what did you what did you uh So in the rain, I jump out of the car into puddles and everything, and make my way into the local Leesburg Safeway to track down
Fried Chicken Ice Cream Mission
SPEAKER_02our ice cream chicken. Ice cream chicken.
SPEAKER_01Fried chicken ice cream.
SPEAKER_02It looks like basically fried chicken. A chicken leg. A chicken leg or yeah. Yeah. Drumstick. I could have sworn that they were different, like there was a breast or anything like that. But it was all chicken legs, right? They were all chicken legs shapes. They were all chicken legs, and they basically had a what a like a flowery kind of coating on it to make it look like fried chicken skin.
SPEAKER_00They look just like fried chicken. I would like to see, check out the YouTube channel.
SPEAKER_02And yes, we decided to tape it all before we started today.

SPEAKER_02So I'm and Dave has wet socks. Remember when Perrine had wet socks? You had to go upstairs. We stopped everything, and you had to go upstairs to get new socks. I wasn't able to get new socks. I'm just a cold toed. I got some clean socks upstairs. I'm good. I'm good. I'll make it through it. Okay. I am freezing, but yeah, that's just a good thing. Well, yeah, that's because we keep our house at 70 degrees.
SPEAKER_00Well, and the temperature dropped like 30 degrees with the storms.
SPEAKER_02So that helped. Yeah, that helped a lot. So that's always nice. Did you have any corrections, Dave? I did not, only because I'm the worst podcasting person imaginable that I didn't listen to the podcast before just because we were a little busy.

SPEAKER_02Yeah, they're getting her up and walking and then kick her out of the hospital very quick. There was already people there that they had like had the same type of surgery that they were walking around the area around her. Like she just because she's on Medicare, Medicaid, she gets one night they keep her.

SPEAKER_02But there were people that had the same type of surgery. The old guys, and they were they were they had the physical therapy woman that came to talk to us. She was already moving them around again to kick them out the same day.
SPEAKER_01So she's in the hip unit.
SPEAKER_02She's in the hip unit unit, yeah.

SPEAKER_00Seems appropriate for her. Yeah, the hippie unit.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, that's hope for a quick recovery, Nancy. And uh we'll see you soon and all that stuff. So perfect. So cool. All right, are we ready to get into 1992? 1992. My first topic is fun and games. Now, we discussed in previous episodes with fun and games, it gets to a point where it's really just video games. Yes, that's like the new video games. And 92 was definitely the uh the Nintendo Super NES had come out and retailed for $149. Oh my god. And yeah, the big games um that year were Street Fighter

SPEAKER_01So those were some of the big the big landmark uh releases. Yeah. Uh Legend of Zelda, Link to the Past. Okay, I know these. And on PC was Wolfenstein 3D.

SPEAKER_01Wolfenstein 3D? I don't know. I remember I totally remember. I have to Google that. Right.

SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, because Streets of Rage 2 also came out on the Sega Genesis. Oh yeah, it was all the two person. Yeah. Oh, Kirby's Dreamland. Come on. Kirby was introduced. The little pink, what is it? Is it a cloud? What is Kirby? Yeah, right. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01Something. Sure. Something. Uh yeah, and then like I said on PC, Wolfenstein 3D, and then Indiana Jones and The Fate of Atlantis. I totally played that game. You did? I totally, because it was an Indiana Jones game and there hadn't been an Indiana Jones game. And I remember playing that on PC. Yeah. Not until Lego Indiana Jones, yeah. A couple years later.
SPEAKER_00The two games that were released by my husband in 1992 were Frederick Pohl's Gateway and Steve Moratzky's Spellcasting 301 Spring Break, Not Safe for Work.
SPEAKER_01I do not remember either one of those. Not at all. Sorry, Mark. I don't remember those. Sorry. Okay. Oh, so what people were doing for fun, so that was the game stuff. What people were doing for fun that year, the blockbuster boom was on. Yes. It was video store. Oh, that was it. You la Dave, last week you said your dad worked at the VHS store. And at the video store. At the VHS store.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because they also rented beta.
SPEAKER_01So it wasn't. So it's the video store. Menu said the VHS store. Yes. In Alexandria. In Alexandria, really? He drove all the way to Alexandria.

And so I would go and the and the best, oh my God, the best thing we had was there was a deli right down the road. And they made the best Italian sub. And I can never recreate it if I if I wanted to. I could not. It was so I was just amazing how it was put together. I can't even I can taste it right now. There's just, I don't even think it exists anymore. If anyone remembers this Italian restaurant that makes a deli in Old Town Alexandria down the street from the video store. From the video store. Very specific. I don't even know what the name of the video store was.
SPEAKER_01That's so sad. Uh people started listening to music on CDs. CDs and cassettes. I won't get into the top songs that year because someone else has music. Yes. Um the console wars, yeah. It was the 16-bit era. Oh, okay. Where it was Super NES and the Sega Genesis and all that. Right.
SPEAKER_02Um was Dreamcast in that one?
SPEAKER_01I don't think uh Dreamcast, I think, was later. Yeah. Yeah, I don't think it was that same year. Um mall cult culture was huge. Like the mall was packed. Every Friday and Saturday night the mall was packed.

SPEAKER_01In 92, yeah. Yeah. And it was uh and people did a lot of cruising and late night diners became huge. Oh yeah. The 24 hour, like you know, dinnies staying open 24 hours and 29 diner. Yep. Taste 29, which is now, yeah, it's closed, been closed for years, and actually the property's for sale right now. Ah, down there. Yeah, they're gonna they'll obviously demolish and build like apartments or some shit.

SPEAKER_01The diner physically is still there. It has not been demolished yet, but it's been closed for I think five years.
SPEAKER_00And reopened. Could you imagine if we had a gazillion dollars of things we could do from our childhood? Oh, yeah. It's so easy to open and easy. But you could have like indoor-outdoor.
SPEAKER_01I I remember going into the Taste 29 and having to put Patience by Guns N' Roses on the jukebox every time we went in. Really? Yeah. Why was that? I don't know. It was just like at two in the fucking morning, and it's just like everybody everybody else is drunk, and like I was always thinking of the driver. Oh, it is box office mojo, yes. So they have the the box office list from 92. Number one movie, which I can't believe, you know, sequels never do well, but this one did, and it was Batman Returns.

And then my one of my favorites, and I I quote this all the time, Wayne's World.

SPEAKER_01So um Basic Instinct, which when Basic Instinct, I was working at the theater when Basic Instinct came out. Hold on, when was that? That was that was March 20th. So that was no, right? But I must have worked into 92, early 92, because I was at the theater when basic instinct came out. Yeah. And it was a madhouse. People were like flooding in for that movie.

Yeah. Uh The Bodyguard. Okay, and then number 14 was the first one that I actually don't think I have ever watched. And it's White Men Can't Jump with Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson. You haven't seen it. I don't yet. I and I still haven't to this day. Really? A number of A, I don't like basketball. So it's not a basketball movie, though.

SPEAKER_01Yeah. Well then why did they call it White Men Can't Jump? And it has them all the promo stuff was them on that. All the promos was them out on the basketball movement.
SPEAKER_02Okay, yeah, but it's it's not well yeah, so it's kind of uh the same way the English paceman it's not about a burn victim.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, okay. Exactly. It's that scenario. Uh Fried Green Tomatoes, Last of Mohicans, Unforgiven, Classic Western with uh Clint Eastwood. Clint Eastwood. Uh the original Beauty and the Beast, which I couldn't believe was at number 18.

SPEAKER_01Same year as Aladdin. Yeah, because Disney was putting out two films a year at that time. Yeah, because those were still when they were like hand drawing, too.

SPEAKER_00Well, definitely I saw that three times in the theater, and I also saw it on ice. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yes. Yeah, yeah. I loved the live action with Emma Wilson. Wilson. Yes. Uh this goes against everything I believe in.

SPEAKER_01It's like I just I just remember seeing the original and I saw it in theaters and just absolutely loved it. I remember I had we they didn't have it at Faroaks. I had to go to Merryfield and see it.

SPEAKER_01And I you know, actually paid to see it. And was just like completely just wowed by the animation and the all of it. And even when you know when it came out on Laserdisc, I bought it on Laserdisc and then, you know, then DVD later. And yeah, it was just like one of those movies I loved.
SPEAKER_00Like how the castle, the castle interior was so realistic and it literally sparkled the black shadow. And the reflections, I was blown away by that.

SPEAKER_00Was it like one of the first, like compared to Little Mermaid?
SPEAKER_02Little Mermaid didn't have the computer generation stuff, so there wasn't that kind of uh editing to it.

SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, so then going on down the list, I'm ashamed to say I actually did witness Eddie Murphy's boomerang. Oh my god, it was terrible. It was so bad. Holly Berry was in there. So Holly Berry, yeah. Uh A Few Good Men, Father of the Bride, Far and Away. Yep. Uh Far and Away. Death Becomes Her, Honey Blew Up the Kids, Aliens Three, the Classic. Yes. I mean, how were you gonna follow Aliens? I mean It was tough. Alien One, yes, was all drama. Aliens two, James Cameron fucking knocked it out of the park. And then Alien Three never had a chance. No.
SPEAKER_02No, and and it's that whole thing about the the third in the trilogy. Yeah. Yes. Always tough. Yeah, it's a it's rough. Yeah, especially when two is so good. That was such a good one.

Oh, the Mighty Ducks, singleweight female. I'm now just skipping stuff. Oh, so I saw this opening night when it came out and was shocked to see that its total take was only $48 million. And that was Malcolm X.

SPEAKER_01Because there was so much controversy around that movie coming out. And you know, I went and saw it opening night and was like, okay, got it, you know, I got it.
SPEAKER_00And that was Denzel Washington, right? Correct. Correct. Yeah. And that was an Oscar winner.
SPEAKER_01And and Malcolm X, $42 million, and it barely, oh sorry, $48 million, and it barely beat out Encino Man, the Poly Shore classic. Oh my god. Barely.
SPEAKER_00But what was the number one? I felt like the number one was like 160 something. And I was surprised it wasn't higher.

SPEAKER_00So I wonder if there was just a lot out that year and it kind of spread out the money.

If you go to uh the box office mojo and do the yearly comparisons, you can definitely see the scaling up of how much money we were spending. Um if you go back 26 years, if you go back all the way down and you can see that number, it's in the hundred thousands. Like it's in it's like seven hundred and some thousand dollars. Right. And it's like billion point two. And now it's insane. And I I don't know if it's ticket prices or if it's just the blockbusters are bigger, so then there's that much more um of things around it. It was an ensemble cast with like Danny Glover. It was one of those like four seasons. Steve Martin or um But it's a drama though, it's not a comedy. Yeah, right. Four seasons is a comedy.

SPEAKER_00That's so funny. Yeah, I mean, that I remember when they announced that, and I was just like, they're gonna crush everyone.
SPEAKER_02You should how is that allowed? In that first game, Charles Barkley came down for a rebound and popped that guy a center in the chest with his elbow. That I remember that as part of it. I was like, oh my gosh, what are we doing?
SPEAKER_00I I always and I still don't understand this because the Olympics is supposed to be for amateur athletes. Technically, so how on earth did we get to field this team?
SPEAKER_01Going because if you go back further to hockey, uh-huh, the hockey was always amateurs playing, but Russia never did that. Russia had their Russian league, which was the same as like the NHL caliber here, and that's their but that was their team, and they would sing Team Russia, and the Russians would dominate in ice hockey. And it became the got to the point where they were like, okay, we'll let professional athletes in because like this is just stupid that Russia's so dominant. Right. And yeah, and so they started letting yeah, NHL players in other countries use, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Is it just for certain sports, or do we just not have the Olympic sports that match like uh well I don't know, Joanne.
SPEAKER_01How many how many professional javelinists have you seen? Yeah, right. Well, that's what I'm saying. Olympians. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, is baseball in the Olympics?
SPEAKER_02Like, do we feel the baseball was in the Olympics a long time ago? Yeah, it was, but they aren't now. I think it's going to actually be a one of those provisional sports again. Coming up.
SPEAKER_01Did you know that uh synchronized skating, like the group synchro skating, is is being added to the Winter Olympics? Oh, yay, that sounds awesome. Yeah, to see how it goes. And yeah, because we have a ton of synchro skaters at our rink. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And that sounds so cool. I didn't even know that was a thing. Yeah, like team synchro. Oh, I'm so excited.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Well, the baseball basketball used to okay, so with basketball, the national teams when they come, like Spain, and they they would allow the the national player, the professional players that were in the leagues in those countries play.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So that was also another professional playing in the non-speaking.
SPEAKER_00It seems to just not be the spirit of the Olympics, but knowing the history with Russia, I mean, you can't let that go.
SPEAKER_02So I would say the sport's the sport, and if there was someone who wanted to play in the Olympics, they should be able to. I mean, that's kind of how that is. I mean, where else would they be able to uh, you know, play if they wanted to? Right, yeah.
SPEAKER_00But then if I was in So I was listening to the Kelsey brothers talk about flag football in the Olympics. Yeah. And they were saying there's a professional flag football league.
SPEAKER_02There is.
SPEAKER_00And they were wondering, would they allow NFL players? And their stance was anybody who wants to try out should be able to try out. And be on the team. And be on the team, you know, right. If if you meet the criteria.
SPEAKER_02Exactly.
SPEAKER_00So that'll be interesting.
SPEAKER_02Well, are rugby players gonna get to play? Or you know, then you just open it up to anyone.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I've got to watch that a little more closely.

SPEAKER_00Um, speaking of the more of the Olympics, so the Summer Olympics was held in Barcelona. There was a unified team that represented the former Soviet Union. So that was because they had all split apart, but obviously they couldn't field their own teams from Lithuania because yeah, right. So they were unified at that time. And of course, they won. The US was second for a number of uh gold medals. The Winter Olympics, and I need to research this, but was this like the last year the Olympics were held in the same year, winter and summer?
SPEAKER_01I think so. I think then that's when they started offsetting it every two years. Right.
SPEAKER_00I loved it when it was all in the same year. It was just so exciting. I feel like when they split it up, they the momentum kind of got lost. A little bit. Like we're excited for two weeks, and then it's like another channel.
SPEAKER_02We have to wait a whole four, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So um winter was in Alberville, France, and Germany was top of the gold, which is interesting because I don't think we've seen that for a little while.
SPEAKER_02No, it's always been a Norway, Sweden type of Finland and all the skiing ones were so.
SPEAKER_00I wonder if because Germany was united with their East Burr East Germany. East and West. Maybe that helped them. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02In the winter, I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Well, they have the Alps and everything. True, that's true.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, I guess they did have some of them.
SPEAKER_00So I don't know. Just ruminations. Um Chicago Bulls beat the Portland Trailblazers. Do they still exist in basketball? Portland, yes. Okay, I haven't heard of them for a while. Um that's true. It was the first really world series in baseball in 1992. Oh. Because Toronto beat Atlanta to be the first non-US team to win the World Series. Right. So officially it's the World Series.
SPEAKER_01And then the Braves turned it around and went on that haul in the 90s. Yeah. They won like three World Series in five years or something. Screw this. Yeah. The Braves are like, fuck you. Yeah, right. Canadians.

SPEAKER_02I think they are. It's one of those traditional ones too. And then you'll see a lot of then that opens it up to professional golfers playing too. So then it's like, okay, great. But again, I think a lot of the college guys that are coming out of these sports are trying to become professionals in that sense, in that vein, and then would be able to be at Olympia. So I I mean something to watch. I don't know.

SPEAKER_02So a lot of the foods that we saw in 1992 were these launches of highly processed, convenient foods. And again, incredibly processed, like overly processed. Like legables. Yeah. And so the ones that I had on the list here were snack wells. Do you remember these things?

SPEAKER_02Were they, I mean, they're kind of they were fat-free, right? That's why they were so one of them was the fat-free devil's food cake. That was my remember that one? That was the one that was the most popular that was just tearing off the shelves and just get through. Yeah, and I don't know if you knew Dunkaroos was a uh treat for the lunch boxes.
SPEAKER_00With icine. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And like how do we know that? We were in our 20s, right? I missed it. We were in college. Um, and so I don't remember that being a thing until I was giving them to Sydney.
SPEAKER_00I don't see I remember them more caught. I think it was just because it was like a a snack. It was like an easy Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_02So basically it was uh cookie sticks with a cup of icing that came with it. It's kind of like the cheese whiz ones, like the snack things with the the uh the little red knife with the cheese.
SPEAKER_00Did you ever eat graham crackers with icing from the can? No.
SPEAKER_01No. Vanilla icing. Oh my god, you must. You must graham crackers with icing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean I'm sure it's vanilla icing. I'd say anything with icing, right?
SPEAKER_03So good.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And then um fruit by the foot was released. It basically was a roll of three feet of flattened dehydrated fruit. Right.
SPEAKER_00It's amazing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was pretty good. I like them. I still eat them actually. And and Trick's Yogurt started, which was the multicolor. Yeah, that is remember that. Yeah, the color alone is another one. And then the big push was to do clear sodas. Okay. So in 92, we saw Crystal Pepsi, we saw Tab Clear, which I'd never saw that before. And um Pepsi did, or I'm sorry, Seven Up did one called Seven Up Gold. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Why does Seven Up need to do a clear clear?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I would say they're just kind of following the trend. And then how clear did can they make it?
SPEAKER_00And was Crystal Pepsi just without coloring, or did they change their flavor?
SPEAKER_02They had a different style to it. I thought it was just Pepsi with no flavoring in it, but they actually took the recipe and later on added a fruit flavor to it and released it, and that also failed too. Yeah, but there's a story behind this whole thing. Supposedly, uh, interesting product launch was the Tab Crystal, which I never heard of before. Um I have never heard of that. No, Coke released it, but they did it to kill the Pepsi.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god.
SPEAKER_02So basically, they made it taste medical and confusing with actually real taste to it, and that was to destroy the whole uh crystal Pepsi scenario.
SPEAKER_00Was that the Cola Wars? Yeah, that was part of the Cola Wars.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because they didn't want this to succeed because then Pepsi would have had a product that Coke couldn't.
SPEAKER_00So they'd be like tab. So they did crystal tabs, and they're like, oh, Pepsi must taste as bad as this.
SPEAKER_02Oh god, yeah. And so then that put everything that was clear on ice because everyone, no one really thought it was that great. So it put that out there, yeah. So that was kind of funny. Um, yeah, so that was kind of weird. Um, planters created something called PB Crisp. Do you went to the case?
SPEAKER_00That is so familiar.
SPEAKER_02I I can't, it wasn't a it wasn't a um peanut like a uh potato chip style crisps when you think of crisps. It was a peanut-shaped graham cracker filled with peanut butter, chocolate, or strawberry cream.

SPEAKER_02Now, if it was filled with chocolate and looked like a peanut and from planters and it didn't taste like peanut butter, why the hell were they releasing it?
SPEAKER_00Was it like a peanut butter stuffed pretzel?
SPEAKER_02No, no, it was just a it says here peanut-shaped graham cracker.
SPEAKER_00So it was it was like a nutter butter?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I would say in that shape. But if you're making plant if you're planters, which you're just all nuts, everything's nuts with planters, right? And you put chocolate or strawberry into it and it doesn't have a peanut butter overtone to it, then it's just a peanut-shaped cookie. So why would planters release that?
SPEAKER_00That sounds like a marketing.
SPEAKER_02It seems crap. Um, Arizona green tea launched also. Oh, wow. Is that one of your favorites? I don't know.

SPEAKER_02I don't drink that either. Um, and then we had a couple that were discontinued, which I didn't even know this was a thing. Golden Yangles. And I'm saying Yangles as Y-A-N-G-L-E-S.

SPEAKER_02So the Girl Scouts released this, it was a cheese cracker that was puffed.

Right, yeah, it's something fine. Something, yeah. Um, and it's like everything in that. Like it's chocolate, peanut butter, caramel, pretzels. They just yeah, and they just threw everything in this thing and said, let's just make a gloop, and we're just gonna put that in a package. Um, hostess cocoa bliss. Nope, don't heard anything say that.

SPEAKER_02It was two chocolate cake layers filled with chocolate cream and topped with chocolate icing. This thing was chocolate overload. I am telling you, this thing had to be gross. Um, I don't, and of course, that's because it didn't it didn't stay in in stock. So there we go. All right, cool.

SPEAKER_02And that is probably the hazelnut coming out of it. But yeah. Well, I like it. Not bad. I don't know. Not for you. It's kind of sweet. It's the aftertaste. Yeah, well, yeah, it's got chocolate in it. Um, I mean, it's more of an aftertaste thing with me. And I think that's the hazelnut coming out.
