Keeping with the 4th of July festivities, this week we are back to the bicentennial... 1976! We have Paranormal, Myths & Urban Legends, TV, Food, Feel Good and Science & Tech. I know, a real barn burner this week. Haha! :)
1976. I don't know if anybody has been following the the 250th anniversary state fair in DC. Yeah. Um it started last Thursday and it goes through July 10th. Yeah and it's in DC and you can go and it's like it they have like a big fair suite and like tent they have a tent for every state. So now Christmas, when they do the national Christmas tree, they have it's surrounded by smaller trees that are the trees decorated

SPEAKER_01from every state. Yeah. So I mean I get I get the idea. Yeah. But it's just like a big main stage, and then like these two rows that go down the grass of like the different states, and like the state flags hang outside of it, and you can go in and see, like, you know, oh, that's a tractor from Iowa. Right, right.
SPEAKER_02Well, North Carolina had a race car.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, exactly. Right. And it's been going on since Thursday, and there's been nobody there. It's been kind of sparking. It's been a ghost town.
SPEAKER_04I have a thought about this.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_04Because no one has reported this.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_04It's freaking hot.
SPEAKER_02It is hot. And inside there's no air conditioning in those little booths.

SPEAKER_04Oh, but I was wondering is are more people inside than outside because all the stuff is inside. So why would they be able to do that?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but the tents are small. I don't see the tents for each stage. They're not big.
SPEAKER_04They're not yeah, but they're out of the site. With air conditioning. I saw the I would just like to see the reporting for that. Right. Before I make any judgments.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so I've seen I've seen was it the actor Dean Kane who played Superman on TV? It was him and some other person doing a whole thing, and they were up on the stage talking, and there was maybe 25 people in front of them. Right. Right.
SPEAKER_04I also saw a lot of the reports are coming, are being recorded before it actually opens. Like it opens at 10:30 or 11 30 or something. And they're there at like 8 30.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, before anyone gets there. Plus, people are working on the street.
SPEAKER_04I just like to get all the information. Yeah, it's a work week.
SPEAKER_01It is a work week. But it opened last Thursday, and over the weekend there still wasn't. I mean, I know 4th of July is not until this weekend. Right, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Well, if they're traveling.
SPEAKER_04And if you're coming, why would you come the weekend before 4th of July?
SPEAKER_03Right, because you want to see the fireworks on the 4th. I just say, let's wait and see.
SPEAKER_01Okay.

SPEAKER_01We don't get political on the show. Right.
SPEAKER_04And we try to stay out of politics, but uh things like this bother me because the reporting is not a hundred percent accurate. Could be like I just laid out four things that I need to know before I make a decision. Right.

SPEAKER_02Gotcha. I thought there would have been more than just a fair show.
SPEAKER_04I thought there would have been more people.
SPEAKER_02I thought there would have been more stuff like rides and things like that. There have been festivals held on the mall before. Yeah. And they have been packed because of other things. I remember as a kid going to the um Native American one. And they had dancing and they had uh wheeled stuff. Yeah, it was. It was just the one weekend.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Spreading this over that many days is gonna also cause people to spread out their visits.
SPEAKER_04Correct.
SPEAKER_02So that is also fair enough. Fair enough.
SPEAKER_04I do think everyone is gonna descend like you think third and fourth.
SPEAKER_02I mean, maybe I think so too. I think Thursday, Friday, Saturday are is definitely gonna be your three days of uh activity.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Gotcha. I hope they're prepared because the ice cream did melt the last time. Gotcha.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the first day the they lost power. Oh, there was also a picture online of a band that was on stage playing. Yes. And you could see in the guitar player, the reflection of the guitar player's glasses, that there was only like 10 or 15 people there. And it was just like, and they recropped the picture with him out of it now and put the photo back up online on Instagram or something. Right.
SPEAKER_02I was like, it's like it was a Monday. I mean, that was a Monday. Yeah. So Monday afternoon. Yeah. I mean, and it wasn't, you know, it wasn't kid rock or anything like that.
SPEAKER_01It was just uh yeah. So Joanne, do you have any more do you have any chicken news going on?
SPEAKER_04Or do I have chicken news for you?

SPEAKER_04No, they were fine. The one that really liked me that I got to hell to hold is named Chargy because he charged at my friend's daughter when he was
Chicken Update And Coop Sticker Shock
SPEAKER_04little. So she named him Chargy. And so there's four grown hens and five two-month-old. Hopefully, all hens no roosters. So Chargy's one of those.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_04So I got to hold Chargy, it was so happy letting me hold him. So now I'm getting really excited. Okay. Like I can I can hold the chickens. But can I tell you what a pain in the butt it is trying to figure out what coop to buy?
SPEAKER_03Really?
SPEAKER_04Like coops are very expensive. Oh, well, that's true. The chickens don't care, but you have to have enough space for them. Right. So like coops that you can get like from tractor supply or home depot or whatever. Yeah. They're usually good for like four to six.
SPEAKER_02Well, we've got nine. Well, can't you just get like two and knock a wall out or something?
SPEAKER_04Well, this is the thing. Do I do that? And I have to freaking.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yes, that's involving. How much cheaper is it just to buy another fox? Right. Or accidentally lose two or three.
SPEAKER_04Or it's the raccoon. Supposedly the raccoon. It was the raccoon that got them. He he unlocked the door.
SPEAKER_02Well, they do because they're pretty good at that.
SPEAKER_04Into the pen.
SPEAKER_02Wow.
SPEAKER_04Into the coop and slaughtered them in the coop.
SPEAKER_02Maybe he was working with the fox. Maybe. The fox will look out or something. I mean, open it up, throw a leg or wing this way, and I'll be good to go.
SPEAKER_04Like who who knows? Who knows?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, raccoons get into everything.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I know.
SPEAKER_03We have to put a cinder block on top of our trash can because otherwise the raccoon will try to get everything. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I didn't realize how smart they were.
SPEAKER_03They're pretty smart. Yeah. Very smart.
SPEAKER_04So now it's like all the coops have padlocks on them, on the like the egg.
SPEAKER_01You need to put combination locks on there because they don't figure out a combination lock. Or just or just go swiper, no swiping.

SPEAKER_04Yeah, but my friends were great. I have, I of course, went to go see the chickens, and then we went to my other neighbor's house. They have um six chickens, and he like went through everything. He's like, You need this and you need this, and this is how you do this, and blah, blah, blah.
SPEAKER_02Well, at least you have expertise to go to. Yes.
SPEAKER_04So that's chicken expertise.
SPEAKER_02It's not all internet.
SPEAKER_04You got someone there you can kind of but we gotta get on the stick about this chicken coop. And then I I look on Facebook Marketplace for stuff, and can I tell you how many times I've almost been scammed in the last few months on the freaking marketplace?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I found this great coop literally 15 minutes away. Yeah, they could deliver it. It was inexpensive. And then I showed Mark and he's like, look at her photo. Of course, she's like some 20-year-old hottie. No posts, no nothing. He's like, This is fake.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, fake again.
SPEAKER_04Oh my god. Annoying.
SPEAKER_03That is annoying.
SPEAKER_04That's the chicken update.
SPEAKER_03Because little hotties post every day. They don't hang out with the chickens. Exactly. They post selfies non-stop.

SPEAKER_02I made a horrible husband mistake.

The Ear Of Corn Compliment
SPEAKER_02down uh on on the other day. And um I I don't I don't know. I must have had too much sugar or something, and I just blurted out that she looked like an ear of corn. Oh my she was wearing a yellow top with green pants. And I swear to God, in my head, I said it and I I regretted it. Yeah, immediately regretted that decision. I was immediately regretted that decision. What the hell? I was, I think like an ear of corn. I want to officially apologize to the public uh and and make it known because I know she's gonna hear this, so I want to make sure that um I may have misspoke about the corn outfit.

SPEAKER_02I did. Now, in my head, I still was in sugar mode and was gonna send her a ton of corn memes, but then thought better of it. It just wasn't going over that well. Well, it just kind of over the edge. Uh, yeah.

Next topic so um it is my week off, and I have been worn ragged. So if I am if there's a little low energy on my side of the microphone, I am dying because I've been power washing and oh, I got the power washer working, so I gotta use it. And since I've been off all week, I was out in the heat uh power washing the walkway and I've been uh tearing down the bathroom, which I finally got the final pictures of the bathroom. Yeah. So once I get that cleaned up, I'll

SPEAKER_02start putting up wall at that point. And we gotta pick a um, I guess we have to pick a fixture for that, but I still can put in the flooring and all that, so that's gonna move forward. We have the bathroom in the basement that needs to be wall scraped, and I have about 15 different things that need to be power washed uh just because they've kind of piled up. So I gotcha. So cool. Yay! Did you have any corrections? I did. Oh, okay. What corrections did you have? I did. Delaware is the first state, but it was only the first state because it ratified the U.S. Constitution. Gotcha. And it didn't do that until 1787. Wow, okay. So it took a little while, and it did become the first state because it was the first one to ratify the constitution. So we went for nine years without a government was still the government, and the constitution was still in place, but each state had to ratify it on its own. I believe that was the timeline. Gotcha. Corrections And Celebrity Mix Ups

And they do look alike. I saw a picture of them both next to each other. They were in almost the same outfit in the picture, and they do really look alike. You can see how I get when he didn't have his mustache.

I gotta say, when I pulled this up to see the paranormal stuff for 1976, I was very happy that to see the first thing that popped up, which was that was the year of the Amityville horror. Of it actually happening. The house, not the movie in the book later. Right, the adaptation and everything.

SPEAKER_01their home in terror just 28 days due to relentless onslaught of paranormal phenomena, and the tale went on to spawn the best-selling book and film. Okay, I have a question. Okay.
SPEAKER_02What would it take to happen in your house for you to leave? I mean, to like it, I hear stuff happen all the time. We've got lights flickering all the time. We claim that they're the ghosts. Doors just kind of swing open and you don't have to. What needs to happen? I mean, the flies on the window, all that stuff. I I get those kind of things, and those are kind of played up for the movie, but well, Joanne can attest that I've I've lived in a haunted house.
SPEAKER_01Yes, you've got to be a little bit more than a haunted house, so it doesn't phase me. Right. So I just blood dripping from the walls, maybe I would start to get away. Yeah, I was gonna say something.
SPEAKER_04Because your little kid ghosts were fine and they just played with you, and that was fine.

SPEAKER_01Anyway, so yeah, Amityville Horror was that year, which was a big year. Uh, the exorcism of Annalise Michelle on July 1st of 1776. Yeah, we're going way back in the house. Oh my goodness. All right, 1976, a young German woman uh tragically died following a year-long series of 67 Catholic exorcisms. Jesus. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01Like obviously. Yeah. The intense debate about whether or not it was a demonic possession versus uh a mental illness. Mental illness, because you know, she went through 67 exorcisms.

SPEAKER_01Crazy. Um think when the 63rd one didn't work, that it would be yeah, exactly. Uh also the omen came out that year. Oh, of course it did. 1976. So that was that was good. So good uh cinematic horror. Of course. That was always a good one, Damien. Yeah, and then for uh the BBC had archive footage investigation into the famous 1977 Hexam Head's werewolf mystery. Oh what? Yeah, so apparently there was a werewolf and uh BBC had archive footage of it. Wow.

SPEAKER_01Yeah, I would think so. Probably inspired, though. It doesn't say that, but uh that sounds like something that would totally inspire. Of course, it would be London or something. SPEAKER_04They always hit the film crew was who was shooting the six million dollar man at the amusement at the amusement park in California accidentally broke the arm off a glowing hanged mannequin. To their horror, they discovered human bone and skin. The prop was the actual mummified corpse of the 1911 Oklahoma outlaw Elmer McCurdy. Oh my god. That's crazy. Amusement Park mummy. How crazy. And people, I guess, were like seeing it all those years.
SPEAKER_02Well, that was a lot easier to buy that than to actually make the prop, I guess.

SPEAKER_04It was said that the band recorded this woman being assaulted.

SPEAKER_04So go ahead and so they it was claimed that this woman was assaulted inside or near the recording studio in Chicago, but actually it was just Billy Back.

SPEAKER_01That would be a shitty studio if they can't keep the noise out of the walls.

SPEAKER_01So Red Hot Chili Peppers, quick sidebar story. When they were recording the blood blood sugar sex magic album, it was when all of their kids, they they'd all had, you know, got married and had kids and stuff, and they were kids were still like, you know, young, like five to eight-year-old, you know, type thing. They they rented this house and they were recording in this house that supposedly was haunted. Yet none of the you know, adults were seeing things, but the kids kept coming back with stories about people on the property and things that they saw. And there's even actually um when they did the photo shoot for the album cover and the album artwork, there there was a picture that they took, and there is this smudge up in the top corner that, like when the photographer was taking pictures, it was like click, click, click, click, click, click, click, and it's only in one frame. Right. So it's not the camera, and it's yeah, not the camera. And they that's the photo they ended up using in the album artwork because Flea, the bass player, was like, he goes, that is a spirit right there. Wow, yeah. Because one of the kids saw it and pointed it out. Right. I believe that. Yeah. So anyway.
SPEAKER_02Wow, back to paranoia. A paranormal. Wow, it just can't go out of your category, Kidding.
SPEAKER_03But that's crazy. I know. Okay, so back to your back to your list, right?
SPEAKER_04That's right. In 1976 was the film Snuff.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_04And this was about the urban legend that there were snuff films.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_04You know about that? Yes. No.
SPEAKER_01I mean snuff films where they really kill somebody on camera. Yeah, I know what that is, but I've never heard of this one in seventy six.
SPEAKER_04They the film's distributors capitalize on the rumor of these snuff films by having people protest outside the theaters. Because they said it was an actual documentary of a woman being murdered.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_04But it wasn't.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Just FYI. And there were a couple other things. There was the Texar Kana Moonlight Murders, which inspired the film The Town That Dreaded Sundown.
SPEAKER_03I do not remember seeing that. No, I don't know.
SPEAKER_04No, no. And there was a Cornish Owl Man sightings in the UK. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Of course he was Cornish.
SPEAKER_04And then a whole bunch of I think I've heard that sort of Urban Legends tied to the Omen.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_04Which I don't have information on, but there you go. All right, cool.

SPEAKER_02Nothing's scary. You're on television, okay. Yes. And we can start the television where in um and TV News, the uh Blues brothers debuted singing the I'm a King Bee. Do you remember this? They actually dressed up as bees. Yep. And with the funniest part, it was so good because his little bee boppers were flipping all around and hitting him in the head and the yellow glasses, and they had dressed in their bee costumes. And the funny thing was the band director was in a uh beekeeper suit. Right. I loved that.
1976 TV Moments And Weird Nostalgia
SPEAKER_02Which was so good.
SPEAKER_01Uh wasn't it uh Paul Schaefer? Paul was it Paul? Yes, I think it was actually. Yes. Paul Schaefer at the time. Dave Lerman late night band.
SPEAKER_02Yes, yeah, yes. And uh and I remember that they also did the thing where they stayed in the bee costumes as killer bees and they showed up with bandoliers and guns and everything. So they were really milking the bee costume at that point, yes. Um, but that was kind of funny. Um now this was a controversial one. Uh episode 847 of Sesame Street was actually removed from um its uh rotation. Uh, this was one where the original Wicked Witch of the West, Margaret uh Hamilton, showed up and was in character on the show. And it freaked the children out to the point where they actually removed it. Wow. Yeah, yes.
SPEAKER_04That's too scary for Sesame City.
SPEAKER_02Oh my goodness, yes. Uh the Family Feud debuted. So that was always good.
SPEAKER_01Uh earlier I had Celebrity Family Feud on because there's no there's no hockey right now, and there's and I don't want to watch World Cup Soccer. Right. So I had Celebrity Family Feud on, and it was during it was a repeat from during COVID when they still shot the show, but like the the little podiums were like six feet apart from each other on each side. So even though the family was together, they were still six feet apart from each other on each side of the stage. And like and the thing is it's they're in their bubble.
SPEAKER_02Well, right.
SPEAKER_01Yes, they would have been, but I mean, and it's very loosely called Celebrity Family Feud because I didn't know who the two lead celebrities were and these were their families. I was like, who the fuck are you people? One guy was a basketball player, okay, he was really tall. I have no idea who he was, and then there was this like it was Wilt, yes, always Wilt. SPEAKER_02But it was TV related. So it was got that one. And um with the Summer Olympics uh was broadcast uh from Montreal, Canada, uh drawing an estimated one billion viewers. Ooh. So yes, definitely good. We had debuts that uh that year. Uh The Bionic Woman, Laverne and Shirley, The Gong Show. I always like the Gong Show. Yep, uh, the new Howdy Duty show, uh Jabberjaw. I don't know if this was a kind of jabberjaw. It was a cartoon. Yeah. It was a shark talking joke. And he played in a band. He was the drummer. He was a talking shark. Yes, like Scooby. Everybody wanted to be Scooby, so it was kind of where they were trying different things. Um you had the Scooby-Doo Dino Mutt Hour and The Muppet Show uh finally um came out with syndication. Cool. Uh Charlie's Angels and uh for a network, it was Showtime. Oh, wow. But we did have some shows leave us. Uh the Mr. Rogers Neighborhood uh ended. It's right. That was in the early 80s, but okay. Well, they had um reruns, but then they stopped showing them after that. Um The Fat Albert show that ended. Yes, we mentioned that the other uh Land of the Lost, and and funny thing, Jabberjaw. Oh Jabberjaw ended the same year it started, it ended before the year. It only ran for 16 episodes, and by the time it started, uh by December it was dead. It was done. Done. I love Jabberjaw. So that was kind of funny.

SPEAKER_02No, it is a it's like the Waldorf salad or the Watergate salad. It's all it's just all thrown together, and it's just like people swear by it. And it's a cranberry combination of something. It's just I don't think I could do that.

And two weeks ago, I was watching America Sweethearts, the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders show on Netflix. And they have a cheerleader who came all the way from Australia to audition. Right. And she made the team last year. And so the season that's now showing of the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, it's from last season's football season. So it's a year removed, and they're actually doing auditions in the process now for the upcoming season. And we'll see that next year in season four. Um anyway, her name is Faith, she's Australian, she's originally from New Zealand, and then she uh moved to Australia and then has been living in Australia for her like adult life, and then you know, so she she moved all the way across the the world to Dallas to try out for the Cowboys uh cheerleader team, and she made the team, and she had a little gift basket that was sent from home. And in the gift basket was a thing of the Tam Tams, and so I was like, oh, and like you know, she's like sharing them with the girls and stuff like that. Like, oh yeah, they're like a little cookie kind of whatever. And like so, I had never even heard. And then Dave sends a picture like a week later going, Oh, look what I found. I'm like, that's so funny because I just seriously saw that on YouTube.

I'm glad I have 66 of them at home. The box it came in were six of these of 11. So I have 66 of them in the house. You gotta buy them in the box, and it was like, okay, and it's Costco. It was not space travel ready. And that's because the engines weren't parked and they didn't have the launch vehicle yet to get it past or out of the atmosphere. And then they rushed it too much on the O-rings.

Because they started crashing, because they were old fleets and they didn't have any updates because they didn't have any new they they didn't develop any further than what they did. And yeah, and after that second one crashed in Paris, that's when they grounded all the flights and they never restarted again. Yeah, there was always an issue with the the length of the um Yeah, it had to be an international airport because it had to be a longer runway anyway. Right. There was a documentary I saw years ago about the Mr. Documentary. Yeah, the enthusiasts that would like stand out because the Concord would take off from um LaGuardia in New York and Dallas in DC. And that's where it would fly in and out of on the East Coast. And there were like enthusiasts that would like just stand every day and wait to see it take off in New York and stuff like so cool. My house in Virginia was literally like three miles away from the end of the east west runway. Yes, we were in the flight path too. And y you could see it land every day. Like I could stand in my backyard and here comes the Concord just touching down. Oh, yeah. Well on on landing, not as much, but it later at night because it would it was a red eye flight back to the UK, an overnight flight. Yeah, when you heard that thing start up like its engines like at 10 30 at night when it was getting ready to take off, it was like, oh my god. Yeah. It was just so loud. Wow. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, along with Apple, though, Microsoft quietly registered with the Office of Secretary of State of New Mexico. So they actually started their little push, but they hadn't released anything yet. So that was interesting that they actually filed uh I guess they filed their paperwork to become a company within the state of New Mexico. Gotcha. So that's where they started. Uh the first electric word processor was released. Um you want to guess at what the name of it was? Oh my gosh.
