Just a quick trip back to 2011 this week. Was it really 15 years ago??? We have Fun & Games, Current Events, Sports, Movies, TV, & Innovations. Hopefully we'll get some new spinner categories next week. ;)
2011. Alright, Joanne, we gotta just briefly talk about some 90-day fiance stuff. Dave, I know just hold on. Just hold on just for a second. So how I need to say how far are you into season 10 right now?
SPEAKER_00Sam just converted.
SPEAKER_01Really? Yes. Oh, so that was their wedding day.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Okay.
SPEAKER_01So you've only got like one or one more episode and then the recaps.
SPEAKER_00Oh, maybe that's it. Yeah, one more and then the recaps.
SPEAKER_02He converted to what? Muslim. Oh, oh, okay. Because his two actually get married.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because her father, because she's from Indonesia.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01And yeah, and the father is a police officer in Indonesia.
SPEAKER_00Oh, wow.
SPEAKER_01And would not give his blessing unless he converted to Muslim.
SPEAKER_00Oh. I think it will be good for him.
SPEAKER_01I think it will be too. I think I he even said it or says it at one point. He goes, like, she's really straightened me out. Yeah. Like he was he used to get in trouble and be in trouble with the law, and now he's he's straightened out. He seems like a good yeah. Anyway. So anyway, so just quickly, so after now, when you get on, since you're almost done through the whole thing, I started watching a one of the other 90-day fiance spinoffs that has cast members from season 10 in it. So I recommend that you go straight into this next one. I can't tell you which edition it is because then you're gonna find out who is it single life? Maybe.
SPEAKER_00It wasn't um kind of doing it for me.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_00You know, um but the season I watched had Coltee in it. Have you seen did you know Colti?
SPEAKER_01Colt?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, is he in this one too?
SPEAKER_01Is he the one in the wheelchair? Because he broke his leg?
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01Okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And he's is that the season?
SPEAKER_01I guess that's the season I'm watching now.
SPEAKER_00That's the one where the girl is like sleeping with two guys and she's lying to one of them about it.
SPEAKER_01I haven't I don't know if I've gotten that far into it. Okay, anyway, hey, welcome to the show. I'm serious.
SPEAKER_02So to call both your significant others and have an intervention. We'll just do the whole thing as a group. How's that? It's all 90-day fiance.
SPEAKER_00Hey, I do have to say though, um quickly, we're moving on from the topic. What you're seeing with um Gino and Jasmine is not how they have been for the last however many years. Right. Like she's being really nice.
SPEAKER_02Uh huh. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And she's a big we can see glimpses. Yeah, you can see glimpses of her true behavior. But I'm like, did she have a freaking lobotomy? Because I have never seen her like this.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Or is it editing?
SPEAKER_01Okay. I don't know. I don't know. We'll talk more after we're done with the show. So reminder, before we we got more to talk about about that. Okay. Oh, Joanne, our after show. How was your week, Joanne? Did you have any anything go on?
SPEAKER_00It was lovely. We um I forgot what we did. We had to go to town to San Antonio on Saturday.
SPEAKER_02Which I found on the Google Maps where you are now, and I know now I know the whole lay of the land. The lay of the land.
SPEAKER_01They can stalk you officially now.
SPEAKER_02Officially. Yes.
SPEAKER_00Everyone is welcome to. Because I was looking it up.
SPEAKER_01Joan, don't say that. I was looking at it up.
SPEAKER_02It was because it was kind of weird that um I was looking it up because I was looking up where the new Buckeys is coming in. Oh. Which is in San Marcos, which is like close. Yeah, somewhat in between, like between both San Antonio and Austin, actually.
SPEAKER_00We are getting one supposedly in Bernie, but that has been the case for like 10 years.
SPEAKER_02Okay, it wasn't on the list of the four that are coming in 2026.
SPEAKER_01Virginia's getting their second one.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00And Stafford and Stafford. Stafford right off right off. Right off. I saw this Instagram post that they should put a Bucky's in the airport, in the Austin airport, because so many people come to visit and don't have a car. Or they just stay in Austin or stay in San Antonio and they don't get to experience Bucky's. And I'm like, that is a freaking brilliant idea. Yeah, but some of the stuff for Bucky. They could do a smaller one. They could do a smaller one. Like at Bucky's, they repeat a lot. So like if you come in, because it's like like two, it's like two Buckies together. So you would no matter which entrance you come in, you'll get this the same stuff.
SPEAKER_01And then in the middle of the the beef stand. And then it starts to get the water.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So you don't have to go through the brisket. Oh my god, they had a they had this huge billboard about the brisket in San Antonio. It looks so good.
SPEAKER_01So the one from us, the one from us is I think 63 or 67 miles from my house. And it's just straight down 81. Yes. Yes, worth it. You know, and I and I keep mentioning it to my son, who's you know now driving, as I mentioned before. And I'm just like, hey, road trip, we need yeah, exactly. Split it. Like you know, you drive down or I'll drive down, you drive back.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, guys will be all listen to a good podcast.
SPEAKER_01Just over an hour drive. I mean, just yeah, in a different direction. Because we already do it for work anyway. So just anyway. You already know. So hopefully that that'll be I think that's my goal for 2026 is to actually visit Bucky's.
SPEAKER_00I love it.
SPEAKER_03That's a good thing.
SPEAKER_01There you go.
SPEAKER_02My new New Year's resolution in May.
SPEAKER_01Six months late.
SPEAKER_00I am surprised you haven't gone yet.
SPEAKER_02I same year. That's what I'm saying. That's true, but it's a little it's a dig it's a good distance to kind of dedicate. Not for me though. 60 63 miles. When would you have to do it? But when would you have to do it? You'd have to do it on your day off, right? Which is probably loaded anyway with stuff you gotta get done. And unless you had a surprise time off to go and do that, it would almost have to be a dedicated trip, right? Hour there, hour back, but time there. That's like three hours.
SPEAKER_00Do all your shopping at Bucky's. Yes. So if you needed anything, you know what?
SPEAKER_01And Dave the Plus, the plus is a t-shirt and uh no, hold on, Dave. And the big plus is at the next exit up is the Krispy Kreme.
SPEAKER_03Oh my oh sweet Jesus, is it?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Hello.
SPEAKER_01So it's Bucky's and Krispy Kreme at two separate exits, but they're right next to each other.
SPEAKER_02Oh, you're selling it for me. I would have to take time off, but I'm ready. Let's go. Let me put let me file it in.
SPEAKER_00I think your Bucky's is closer to you than my Bucky's is to me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Really? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01Interesting. And we we have no excuse, Dave. I'm not sure. We should be going Bucky before she comes here to get her show. That's right. Exactly. That's how it should be wedding. When is your next trip back to the state?
SPEAKER_00I will be coming back at the end of August for a wedding in Pennsylvania. Oh, okay. So TBD, what my schedule is gonna be like. Right. If it's not busy, yeah. If it's not busy with work, I'll stay and try to take some days off. Um if it's like it is today where I'm still working at eight o'clock at night, that's not that's tough.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00Gotta rake in the cash before retirement, everybody.
SPEAKER_02Oh Dave, what do you got? What's what's going on? Speaking of work, um, I haven't worked since uh Wednesday because my laptop decided to melt itself. And I totally freaked out because the battery was getting so hot. Yeah, I was I was worried that the battery was gonna get all puffy, you know. Have you seen them? Yeah, and I so I actually took it outside and put it in a bucket in my driveway so I didn't catch anything on fire. And um, it actually took a while to cool down, like a lot of time to cool down. So I'm thinking what happened was the battery ran out of juice and cooled down because it didn't get cool until Thursday afternoon. What? And that was Wednesday, it was and it was hot to the touch, like hot enough that I could like and I was like, what is happening? And it would just not turn on. So I called my company, and my company said, Well, yeah, we can get you one, and they kind of dropped the ball, and I didn't get it sent until Friday. So it didn't get out of that until Friday. So I didn't have anything to do. So I had a nice long weekend, a little vacation there, and then it showed up on Friday, and then I didn't have I went back to work on to today, actually. There you go. Yeah, that's amazing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I love when stuff like that happens.
SPEAKER_02Hey, it wasn't on it wasn't on purpose. I didn't like the unexpected thing, it just happened.
SPEAKER_01There's another video, I'm sure, on his phone that shows it shows my cannot this I'll teach you and the lighter underneath the battery.
SPEAKER_02Plenty of time to catch up. Setting it on fire. So something was released on the Netflix, and I don't know if you guys saw that. It was called The Burroughs. I was it's from the Duffer Brothers. Yes. They produced it. They pre-director write it, but they're not. They're the ones from The Stranger Things, yeah. They produce it.
SPEAKER_01It was very good. You watched all eight episodes of it? Of course I did.
SPEAKER_02I had really Wednesday and Thursday off.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, all the time.
SPEAKER_01All right. Well, that's it's on it literally is the next thing I'm gonna watch after. It's very good. You will like it. You will like it.
SPEAKER_02And it does jump the shark a little bit, but it is pretty good.
SPEAKER_01Oh, so did I mention did I mention Widow's Bay on Apple TV? No. Okay, that's it's a very quirky, mysterious, it's this small fishing town, and that where there were deaths in the town and it killed the tourism. So now they're trying to get like tourism to come back to the town, and like it's just this quirky little like northern exposure, but eastern exposure.
SPEAKER_00Like I love northern exposure.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, quirky cast like northern exposure, but it's like on the east, eastern coast.
SPEAKER_00Eastern okay. Yeah, I'll watch that. Yeah, we uh Mark made me start watching Silo. He had already watched it, but for some reason he watches things more than once. I don't understand. Um I'll watch if it's good, like Pagonia.
SPEAKER_02I know, but not like a whole series, right? Like, would you watch like season three of Stranger Things Again?
SPEAKER_01I actually restarted watching Sopranos from season one. Oh, okay. That's so fucking good. It is so good.
SPEAKER_00I think he's watched Battlestar Galactica, the series like three times. Oh wow, really?
SPEAKER_02Wow.
SPEAKER_00He just he loves it. He loves it.
SPEAKER_02I loved the old Battlestar other things to watch, too.
SPEAKER_00That's what I say. There's so many other things.
SPEAKER_02There's so much going on.
SPEAKER_00There's so many 90, whatever spin-offs and so many 90-day fiancés.
SPEAKER_01Yes, my gosh. I mean, I never got to season three of Alf.
SPEAKER_02I mean, right, you get there, you'll never forget it. I'll never find that one.
SPEAKER_00You guys, there might be no more 90-day fiance. Oh no. Because the rules for your green card are changing. Right. And they may make you go back to your home country to wait for your green card. I don't know. It's very strange, but there is.
SPEAKER_01I know, I'm like that. Again, that's bizarre. Make sense. It does not make any sense. Wonderful rules. Wonderful rules. All right, off Ryan Day Fiance. Let's go back to the episode.
SPEAKER_02Um, and then I also saw that which which is my um I want to complain and rant about is the NFL schedule. Did you see any of the schedule? I did see it.
SPEAKER_01I didn't see anything to random.
SPEAKER_02There wasn't anything crazy, but people are complaining that it is spread across so many days.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh that's a that's a controversial topic. The first game's on a well four nights a week now. You got Thursday, Sundays, when it gets later in the season, Saturdays and Sundays, and then you got a Monday game, which could also have two on Monday, and then this is kind of crazy. I I that's almost come that's almost uh competing with my 90 uh day fiance watching.
SPEAKER_00Yes, it will be.
SPEAKER_02Oh, they kind of both were going at it on uh what the hell's going on.
SPEAKER_00Jason was not happy. He thinks it should be Sunday night tradition, blah, blah, blah. And Travis was kind of like, you know, as much as much time as we can have football, the better.
SPEAKER_01I I guess, but that's a real investment. I know, yeah. For the whole thing, especially when they're on like four nights a week.
SPEAKER_02There could be two games on Thursday. There's like the Saturday games would kind of cover more than one, and it's like, well, good lord. Yeah, but uh I gotta get stuff done. Like, when do I get the stuff done if I'm sitting in front of watching a football game?
SPEAKER_01The NHL starts back up in October or something. Yeah, so you've got hockey and four nights of football.
SPEAKER_02Well, you know, this they're gonna televise the seven international game or seven cities.
SPEAKER_00Are they really? Yeah, of course they will.
SPEAKER_02Because those are like highlights and they'll play at like nine o'clock, like nine a.m. on a Saturday or something.
SPEAKER_00Oh my gosh. Yeah, or Sunday.
SPEAKER_02And then you see seven a.m.
SPEAKER_00Now there's a bunch of streaming services, so you have to like subscribe to everything to watch all the football, right?
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, because Prime will have it, and then there might be a YouTube one, and then there's uh Oh, yeah. It's just kind of ridiculous.
SPEAKER_01Remember when there's that thing that everybody hated called cable and it was all in one place? Oh my god, it was all in one place together, and you could watch whatever you wanted from that, but we bitched about it. Do you remember that? It was called cable. Dang it. Everybody's like, cut the cord, cut the cord.
SPEAKER_00When I saw the price for YouTube TV at $89, I was like, Why are we doing that?
SPEAKER_01Was that with local channels too?
SPEAKER_00That is with local channels. Yeah. So it is it is good, and you can do like the four in one. I mean, it's got my sister has it and I use her login. Oh it's great. You gotta cut that.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna have to bleep. You're gonna have to bleep that out. I'm gonna go back and start over. Keep talking.
SPEAKER_00But I would never pay that much for because you don't even get the special thing.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, right?
SPEAKER_00Get like local stuff. I guess you get sports stuff. That's just your basics, yeah.
SPEAKER_02That's like basic cable.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_02No, I wouldn't. But then they also had a bunch in December and January that were to be determined. Like the last week in December and the first couple games. There were three of them of the three weeks where most of the games were just TBD. You didn't know when they were gonna play, what times they were gonna play at.
SPEAKER_01I did see the ones where they said they could either flex schedule to one day or the another. Eight or nine, yeah.
SPEAKER_02That's the January eight, ninth ones.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But I don't know why. Why? Why would you do that?
SPEAKER_01Like, what does that get you? What gets me is when the the schedule now goes into the second week of January. Yes. And then the playoffs are going to start.
SPEAKER_02And then they wait a week.
SPEAKER_01And then you can it's always be like, by Christmas, the season was done. Done.
SPEAKER_02Right. Yeah, that was the last week.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That was the last week. But they added an extra week, so you're already playing 18 games. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And isn't the Super Bowl like on Valentine's Day?
SPEAKER_01Something like that.
SPEAKER_02It's supposed to be at the end of January, but then it keeps getting moved further out.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's now into February.
SPEAKER_02And then they screw us by putting it on Valentine's Day when we're not supposed to be doing those kind of things on Valentine's Day.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's I that actually works out for me because like at the rink, I get so much shit from guys that like I gave them Super Bowl Sunday off and didn't schedule games, so they didn't have to miss uh you know one of their adult league hockey games. Right. And so I give them Super Bowl Sunday off, but then Valentine's Day is the next week, and then they bitch at me, be like, You scheduled games on Valentine's Day? Are you serious, bro? And I'm like, I just gave you the fucking Super Bowl off.
SPEAKER_02You can't give them every other week off, for God's sake. You never get on your game.
SPEAKER_01So if Super Bowl falls on Valentine's Day, hey, that's a plus for me. There you go. That's a win. That's a win. Bitching.
SPEAKER_02That's so funny.
SPEAKER_01And I don't have to go either. That's fine.
SPEAKER_02I do have some corrections. Do you guys have any corrections at all? Did you anything?
SPEAKER_00I think everything we say is correct the first time. So yeah, you would love that.
SPEAKER_01And I stand by that.
SPEAKER_02This one we we have not gotten this one right every time we bring it up. The oil shortage of the 70s was 1979 when the people were lining up. We keep saying different dates, different years, every freaking time.
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_02Well, okay, we'd have to go back. But it is 1979, was the year that they started the cars were lining up and they having shorts. It wasn't every seven. And then there are times when we accidentally get shit right. Now, this was one where it was Liverpool and we were when they were founded, and I joked and said, Oh, it's the 1800s. It was 1892. Wow. When it was founded. And I was joking my ass. I was like, I was just making a joke, but it was the 1800s, and I was just laughing when I was that one. I had looked it up today. Um, Kareem, the Kareem Abdul Jabbar shows that he was on. He was on Dancing with the Stars. He was in 2018. But the one you were thinking about, which was the celebrity one, was Splash. It was a celebrity diving show.
SPEAKER_00What? I had oh my God. I love that. I love diving. And it was in 2013. Love diving.
SPEAKER_02That was in 2013. It was someone who is like six something. Six foot something, right?
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_02Diving. He's on ABC. I don't remember.
SPEAKER_00I'm sure.
SPEAKER_02That sounds like an ABC show. 2013. It was a celebrity diving competition. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yes, celebrity diving. And did you also see the surfing competition? It was not celebrity surfing.
SPEAKER_02Really?
SPEAKER_00But it was, yeah, it was who's the famous surfer?
SPEAKER_02Oh, you've got to be killed. Yeah. You know that one. Surfer. I'm gonna look at that.
SPEAKER_00You will know his name.
SPEAKER_02Killa Kaleia. I don't have any clue. Is he Hawaiian? Was he Hawaiian?
SPEAKER_00He I uh uh I'll find his name. But anyway, Kelly Kelly Slater.
SPEAKER_03No, didn't he click?
SPEAKER_01Oh my god, he's like super famous.
SPEAKER_00Anyway, Kelly Slater has related to Slater from Timother Ball.
SPEAKER_01Slater, yes. You know, okay. That's where they got him from. Kelly Kabal. Kelly Slater. Kelly Slater got him.
SPEAKER_00Um he has at his facility um like a a wave pool, I guess, but it's like a surfing for surfing. Yes, so yeah, yeah. And so they got all these very good pro semi-pro surfers to come and it was a competition. And there's a little love thrown in there, you know, so that always gets me. But it was so great. It was so great. And he had them do like these, all these different types of surfing maneuvers, and they had, yeah, it was fun. Well, it was no diving competition, so it was not diving, but it was surfing, which is I love those two.
SPEAKER_02So and then and then we have um Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park was the name of the movie.
SPEAKER_01That was I looked that up after you.
SPEAKER_02They played 1978 superhero. It was a superhero film.
SPEAKER_01Yes. It was the next year. I was it was probably shot in 1978.
SPEAKER_02Which is it look it look it probably has that look to it too. And then um we also got wrong uh The Happy Hooker Goes to Washington, which was a movie. It wasn't Ricardo Montaban, it was George Hamilton. Oh totally could get confused with that.
SPEAKER_01I I could see that mixed a little bit. I'll give you that one. It's the tan. I'll give you that one.
SPEAKER_02So there we go.
SPEAKER_01There we go. All right. Oh busting. All right, let's get into 2011. Yes.
SPEAKER_02Right before the 2012 end of the year, end of uh end of times.
SPEAKER_01Exactly.
SPEAKER_022012 was supposed to be the end of times.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02It was? Yeah, remember? Yeah, it was supposed to be when the earth just kind of engulfs itself and then it gets all it was a interesting. Yeah. Well, when we get to that, we'll bring it up.
SPEAKER_01Well, I guess we will. And I'll try not to yeah, try to walk all over that with fun and games. Um so in fun and games, which is my first topic, uh, the big game of the year was the Elder Uh Scrolls. Oh, yeah. Skyrim. I remember that. That was the big game that year. And really, you know, when I looked up like stuff that was like fun in games, and I and I was even what I was trying to find earlier when I was on my phone, was I was trying to think up of like a fun trip or something we took in 2011. And you know, so I was going back to like scrolling through my pictures real quick, trying to find stuff from that year to like jog my memory of you know, you know, something. And it's just all pictures of my son when he was like two two years old and he was just adorable. And he's like, and now he drives me to work, you know.
SPEAKER_03And he's like, Oh, it's my little boy. And now he drives.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, there's uh Lady McQueen little hat on.
SPEAKER_02Dress him up in little outfits.
SPEAKER_01Oh. Yeah. That was always nice. Yeah. We dressed him up like Woody from Toy Story and did like a little photo shoot with him. Nice. Oh yeah. Cute pictures. Kids are so cute. Definitely. So sorry. I didn't have any like like fun adventure stories, but I just yeah, got like, you know. That's right. Sorry. Seeing my my now almost 17-year-old little boy when he was two. Okay. So Portal 2. Did you play Portal 1 or 2, Dave? Yes, I did. Did you did? Yes, I did. Okay. Yes. Because that was a puzzle game, right?
SPEAKER_02It was one of those things where you're thrown into trying to figure out how to get from one side of the room to the other, but yes.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. Yeah, I never played that one. It was good. So uh Batman Arkham City. I haven't played that. Came out that year. Dark Souls, I don't know what that was. Uh Legends of Zelda 132, I think it was. The Skyward Sword. Oh wow. I don't know. I was joking about the version that it was 100. 132, yes. Um yeah. It also launched the Nintendo 3DS came out that year. Do you remember that? The 3DS where it was like the screen was split and between the top and the bottom. Joanne's like, I have no idea what the fuck you guys are talking about. Like this is this is when we bring Mark into the segment.
SPEAKER_03Yes, yes, Mark should. Oh god, I totally get it.
SPEAKER_02Then we'd have an entire background and we'd have to extend again uh a spin-off of spin dive. Spin dive spin off. Spin-dive spin off.
SPEAKER_01Oh so and then lastly, then Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 were both released in 2011. Amazing in the video games. So what were you what I want to know then? Yes. Listeners, chime in. Please drop us a line, send us a like, and subscribe on our YouTube channel. On the YouTube. Say something on our Facebook or our Instagram. We love comics. I want to know if you have a funny trip or something that you took from 2011 that you remember or something that happened, something silly, sometime. Leave us a comment on any of those on our Instagram. Yeah. Facebook, any of those. Perfect. All right. Because I want to know what what you were doing that was fun in games that year.
SPEAKER_00I'm so bad at the years. Really? They just kind of. Well, yours was current events, right?
SPEAKER_02Didn't you have current events?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I have current events.
SPEAKER_02You're gonna hit us with all the history current events.
SPEAKER_00Okay, they're great. Um the Arab Spring was in 2011. So actually that was great, right? Uh Qaddafi's rain fell in Libya. I'm getting super historical below.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, this is a lot of history. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00The Arab Spring was when there were all the protests in the Middle East, and so a lot of the legacy leaders got out and you know, it kind of woke up the area a little bit.
SPEAKER_01Wow.
SPEAKER_00Going along with that, Osama bin Laden was killed. You must have, yeah.
SPEAKER_01This is my, yeah, this is my Dave's music, your sports. This is mine. Yeah, anything newsworthy. I'm yeah, I'm like an ostrich, my head's in the sand. And you want to go on to know.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_01You know, yeah, I've heard of him.
SPEAKER_00So we got him. We got him.
SPEAKER_01Right, they killed him.
SPEAKER_00Um and Kim Jong il died. He was the leader of North Korea.
SPEAKER_01I knew that too.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So, oh, all my power just went out.
SPEAKER_01Um this is good.
SPEAKER_00Well, talk fast before your batteries run out. Um, yeah, okay, so this is so depressing. You remember the tsunami in Japan?
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_00Yes, so that happened. And then there was the nuclear crisis at Fukushima that went along with flooding the earthquake. So it was like triple. It was 9.0 earthquake, triggered the tsunami, cracked Fukushima. Yep, blah, blah, blah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um that whole side of the world was gonna collapse, it seemed like. Seemed like it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00The um there was that horrible tornado in Alabama.
SPEAKER_01When is there not?
SPEAKER_02Isn't there always it was really, really bad in Tuscaloosa?
SPEAKER_01Uh, I don't I do not know. I'm drawing a boy now. The 2011 disaster. Sorry, people of Tuscaloosa I'm not trying to be rude. I just don't remember.
SPEAKER_00The Royal Wedding.
SPEAKER_01Oh. Oh, was this Meghan Markle?
SPEAKER_00No, Will and Kate.
SPEAKER_01Oh, Will and Kate. Yay! The Royal Wedding. I do remember that.
SPEAKER_00Um, Harry Harry Potter. Oh, does somebody have movies and TV?
SPEAKER_01I all do. But it's okay. You have TV. Harry Potter movie came out that year.
SPEAKER_00And Game of Thrones. Oh, okay. Game of Thrones.
SPEAKER_01That was season one of Game of Thrones in 2011.
SPEAKER_00Yes, I couldn't believe it.
SPEAKER_01I've never watched it.
SPEAKER_00I I was like 10 years late to the party, I think.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I did watch it. You did catch up on it, though. You did watch it. I can't. I'm not into like battle like funny tragic.
SPEAKER_02Well, you're you're you hate that you hate that time period. Yeah, I'm not into that. Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You hate that time period. I don't know. It's just that.
SPEAKER_02It's more of a I just don't like it. I don't enjoy it.
SPEAKER_01I just like the whole like oh win battle.
SPEAKER_02And you know, that's all they did back then in that time frame. They did just battle. It was all bad.
SPEAKER_01They put that all in the movies.
SPEAKER_02It's all bad. It's all about the battles.
SPEAKER_00Uh there was no MTV. Going into dungeons. What are you gonna do?
SPEAKER_02Go for this age. That's all it was. It's all it was. Yeah, exactly. Not my type of movies. Sorry. Dragon Z.
SPEAKER_00Zealand also had a really bad earthquake in Christchurch that year.
SPEAKER_01Oh wow.
SPEAKER_00You know how I'm earthquake. Did you did you get my screenshot? I did. That was funny. San Andreas sentreas sent that. Earthquake tomorrow.
SPEAKER_01I know. And I was like, definitely not my algorithm. That's funny.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yes, right, right.
SPEAKER_01You're not getting those. So yeah.
SPEAKER_00You're not getting that.
SPEAKER_01Yes, I find it humorous, but just not in your still wheelhouse. Okay. Anyway, I've been I've been sending Joanne like really like weird ones, like, you know, like Asian guys sparting things out of their butt. Like to really perfect. Yeah. The Mother's Day line was a good thing. And she's just like she said she goes, that is not my algorithm. That is not it.
SPEAKER_00Not my algorithm. Time for me to go to bed. Yes, exactly.
SPEAKER_02Well, that's why you have us, so we can send you this.
SPEAKER_00That's right.
SPEAKER_02It'll change your algorithm. If you start watching them, they'll just come up on their own.
SPEAKER_00Oh my God, no. No. Yes, yes. Click away to Finsta.
SPEAKER_02Click away.
SPEAKER_00So anyway, it was a pretty, pretty um depressing year.
SPEAKER_02Gotcha.
SPEAKER_00For current events.
SPEAKER_022011 was depressing yeah. I can tell you right now, my sports will go really quick. Okay. Because there wasn't anything outstanding except um uh Usan Bolt uh was running his ass off at that time. Oh yeah. Um he had a hit of 19-4 uh at the 200 meters, but he was disqualified running the 100 meter. So he wasn't able to get the until the next time around. Uh NBA ended its 161-day lockout, shortening the season by 16 games because it was at the front of the season, not the end.
SPEAKER_03Who cares?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly. The Lickers swept the Dallas Mavericks. Al Davis, Raiders owner, passed away at 82. Uh, he was always the owner, always controversial. Seemed like he was always voting against other owners on things. Uh he was always seen as that bad boy. And the Packers uh snuck into the playoffs of the 9-6 record to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25 in the Super Bowl.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That's all I got. There wasn't much out there. Like there wasn't anything crazy. But uh who won the Stanley Cup that year? I don't oh, wait a minute. Boston Brewers.
SPEAKER_01Okay, there you go.
SPEAKER_02I did see it. But I was like, okay, I could do that. I mean, we could rattle all those off, but I was wanting to find some of the unique crap. And there wasn't anything that year. Like 2011 was just a regular sports whatever. People won stuff, people lost stuff. That wasn't anything outstanding. I mean, it really wasn't when I was looking through the stuff, and I always look for the I always look for those twists.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Cool. Okay, so my second topic is movies. Movies. Which you know, if Joanne hadn't pissed all over with the Harry Potter. Harry Potter crap.
SPEAKER_02We've been a whole lot of 20 minutes on Harry Potter. Jesus.
SPEAKER_01My movies are done because it was Harry Potter. That's all you need to talk about.
SPEAKER_02Joanne, did you watch the Harry Potters? Did you watch your Harry Potter?
SPEAKER_00Dirty Harry Potter. I watched them in pieces. Oh.
SPEAKER_01Because yeah, they're like three hours long. It's like Lord of the Ding Dongs. But you didn't watch them when they came out?
SPEAKER_00Um, I want to say I think I saw them all in the theaters. Yeah, I did.
SPEAKER_01I know I saw one with you, Dave, and because you brought Sydney.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Was it the second one or the third one?
unknownProbably.
SPEAKER_01I think it was the third, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Mark's kids, Allie and Nick, loved Harry Potter. Right. Loved Harry Potter.
SPEAKER_02Because they read it? They saw them.
SPEAKER_00They read it. Allie read all of them. They watched all the movies. Right. I remember maybe seeing one in the theater, but I hadn't, it was like down the series, like three or four. So I didn't really know the whole story. And I I have that falling asleep in the movie theater problem when things are dark and loud. Yeah. Dark and loud.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. That's right.
SPEAKER_01My my sister fell asleep at a Brian Adams concert once. So that was yes. Like, how do you fall asleep with it that loud? And my my sister fell asleep.
SPEAKER_02Unless you're just not into it, I guess.
SPEAKER_01I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Anyway, so Harry Potter wasn't the only movie, though.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_01It wasn't. No. So the number one movie that year was a Ryan Gosling film that I don't think I've ever seen. And I'm going to put it on my list to watch because supposedly it was the number one movie of the year. It was Drive. Drive.
SPEAKER_00Oh my gosh. So good.
SPEAKER_01I've played the getaway drive. I've never seen it.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I have not seen it.
SPEAKER_01I'm definitely putting Drive on my list of movies to watch. Um, these are now not in ranked in any order or whatever. It's just mentionable that they came out that year. Okay. Um The Tree of Life. Do you remember that? That hit hit? Apparently that one was really big. Um Moneyball came out that year. I do remember that one. Didn't Jonah Hill, I think, get nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress?
SPEAKER_02I would say so. For that?
SPEAKER_01I think that's Moneyball. Who's a good one? The artist was that year. It was the film noir, the black and white uh period piece thingy thing. From who who was in? I don't think it was Adrian Brody.
SPEAKER_00Was it Adrian Brody?
SPEAKER_01I don't think Adrian Brody was in it. Hold on. I'm gonna click in on it to find out.
SPEAKER_00Or was it the Charlie Chaplin?
SPEAKER_01No, I think that's the one. That was not um That was Robert Down Jr. did Chaplin. Uh John Goodman was in the artist. Really? Oh I don't recognize any of the things. No, it's not ringing a bell. Okay.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_01Ed Lauder.
SPEAKER_02I don't even think I saw the trailer if I can't remember the name.
SPEAKER_01I it got nominated for an Oscar. Uh, is it a silent movie?
SPEAKER_00No. Is it black and white and silent?
SPEAKER_01It may have been.
SPEAKER_00Yes, it says it utilizes title cards instead of dialogue.
SPEAKER_02I will never ever see that. It's a reading thing. So you have to read. I never would have watched that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Never. Only for 90-day fiance.
SPEAKER_01Dude, I'm getting I'm getting very tired of reading the subtitles. Like when they had Amelie and uh Manuel segments back to back.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god, how do we get back to this?
SPEAKER_02God, you guys are you need, you really do need to see it.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god.
SPEAKER_02Yes, but we keep flip flipping right back to it. Our audience is gonna get pissed.
SPEAKER_01Okay, no more 90 days, you can't say.
SPEAKER_00Jen loves it. I'm just saying 90 days.
SPEAKER_01I'm just saying. Sorry. You're killing me here. That's fucking self. Okay, I'm trying to get back to my list. I can't get back to my list. Hold on. Oh my god. Crazy Stupid Love came out. Limitless. Was that with uh Bradley Cooper? Was that the Bradley Cooper one? Yes, yes. I never saw that one.
SPEAKER_02I didn't either.
SPEAKER_01Uh oh, the first insidious movie came out, the horror movie. Oh, right. Yep, that was the first time. In Harry Potter was that that year. Oh, Bridesmaids. Oh my god. Bridesmaids was so frickin' funny. Oh, I didn't see that. You haven't seen Oh my gosh. You've got to see it.
SPEAKER_02So 2011 would mean Sydney was 13. So if we were watching movies, it's because we were watching.
SPEAKER_01Well, Sydney's out of the house and Bridesmaids. It is not a good thing. It is the raunchy comedy that you can. Oh my god, to see Maya Rudolph poop in the middle of the street is hysterical. Okay. So fucking funny. Selling it. So funny. It's just like, oh, so funny. Okay. So good. Bridesmaids was that was maybe my movie of the year because it was a very weak year for movies that uh X-Men First Class came out. Oh, Girl with Dragon Tattoo came out that year. That was okay. Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. Mystery. Oh, The Help. That was the year that uh Emma Stone won. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Did she win for that?
SPEAKER_01I think she did win for that. Okay. I didn't I never saw it.
SPEAKER_00Um also worth seeing.
SPEAKER_01There was a Mission Impossible out that year. Oh, I will never read the book, Jan. The book will never read the book. The book, really? If there is a movie version that even is halfway said that it's okay, I'll watch that over reading the book.
SPEAKER_02Yes. It's a movie about reading the book.
SPEAKER_01Oh, Captain America, the first soldier or whatever.
SPEAKER_03Oh, is that the first soldier? It was so good.
SPEAKER_01Captain America, the first, is that what it was? The first of the I watched Avengers. Avengers or something like that.
SPEAKER_00With Chris, what's his name?
SPEAKER_01Horrible bosses came out that year. Oh, which you know, we mentioned wet work last week. And Joanne's that went right over Joanne's head. Right in it.
SPEAKER_00They finally got it. So it's from Horrible Bosses.
SPEAKER_01Because they they hire there thought they were hiring a hitman and they were hiring someone who did wet work to come to find out if somebody who peas on you. That's during sex. That's my god. Lovely. Oh, and then there was a Thor movie that came out that year too. Yes. Anyway, so oh my gosh. I love yeah, Bridesmaids and Horrible Bosses. Both of those are yeah, just hysterical movies. Perfect. Hysterical. Nice. Joanne, you had TV. Then the small screen movies. Joanne's second is TV.
SPEAKER_00My second is TV. Hold on. My internet is no your internet's fine. We hear you just fine. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02It's not just blinkering. Oh, duh.
SPEAKER_00I have I have TV. So duh, Game of Thrones. Right. Oh, there we go. Game of Thrones. Right. I walked all over myself.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_00Homeland. Did you guys watch Homeland?
SPEAKER_01My wife's watching it right now, actually. Yeah. She's literally watching an episode of it right now.
SPEAKER_00A lot of people have picked it up, so I don't know if it's like just come back through or if it got on Netflix or something. Yeah, but a lot I've heard several people watching that. Breaking Bad, which I have never seen.
SPEAKER_01Now I was super late to Breaking Bad as well. I didn't see Break start watching Breaking Bad until Better Call Saul was in uh its last season. It was airing its last season, and there were six seasons of that, and there were what five seasons of Breaking Bad.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01Once I started, I I binged through those like kid in a candy store. Really? It was just like two, three episodes a night. I was just like boom, boom, boom, wow getting through high school.
SPEAKER_00I just never got into it.
SPEAKER_01Gotcha. Well, my wife said the same thing, and then she actually recently watched through the entire thing.
SPEAKER_02No, okay.
SPEAKER_01And yeah. So it did bring her into it. Okay. And it's funny because then you know now her and I have like, you know, I can make jokes about you know things like, you know, right, right. Los poros, hermanos. Exactly.
SPEAKER_00Nice.
SPEAKER_01Chicken man, Gus. Chicken man.
SPEAKER_00Did you guys watch Once Upon a Time?
SPEAKER_01No. Was that ABC?
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01Then no. I tend to not watch anything on ABC.
SPEAKER_02No, that was the Snow Whites and the retelling of the fairy tale. Or it's a Rapunzel scenario with it.
SPEAKER_00For a few years it was really, really good. And I remember it came on and I was like, children, we are watching this together as a family. It's a wholesome.
SPEAKER_02You forced them to watch it. Wow.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that did not last very long. I would like to do that. But it was so it was really good for a few seasons. Okay. So I would recommend it.
SPEAKER_02It seemed to get a little old.
SPEAKER_00And then it went downhill. Yeah. Suits premiered, and Suits is notable because Draom.
SPEAKER_01I don't remember. Don't remember.
SPEAKER_00Megan Markle.
SPEAKER_01Oh, Megan Markle. Was that her show? That was her show. That was her show.
SPEAKER_00That was her show. I don't know if she was on it in 2011, but that was her show. Gotcha. Teen Wolf premiered on MTV.
SPEAKER_02MTV. Wait, wait, wait. Have you watched a show on MTV since watching videos when we were younger? I have not watched Jackass was the last thing I watched. And you actually watched a show.
SPEAKER_00Well, Teen Mom. Teen Mom is on MTV, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I watched that.
SPEAKER_02I have never been 16 and pregnant or whatever.
SPEAKER_00Well, Teen Wolf was turned into a supernatural teen thriller, which may be why none of us watched it, because we are not teenagers in 2011. Our top rated shows were American Idol, Football, Dancing with the Stars.
SPEAKER_01Right, which is still it blows my mind. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00And CIS and Big Bang Theory. And I want to say those are those are pretty much the top five without Big Bang Theory, still to this day.
SPEAKER_02Big Bang Theory is not playing anymore, but okay.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, but like Idol and Dancing with the Stars and football and some form of CIS.
SPEAKER_02I would say, yeah.
SPEAKER_01There's only we watch Ghosts on CBS. Yes.
SPEAKER_02And well, it's in its last season, isn't it?
SPEAKER_01No, no, it's it's it's been renewed. It's coming back. Okay. Um now, oh, the news on that though is it is coming back next season for a full twenty-two episodes. Okay. But it's not coming back until after the first of the year.
SPEAKER_03Really?
SPEAKER_01So but there will be a one-hour Halloween episode and a one hour Christmas episode. Oh, so they hit the holidays, but then they're just gonna start the season season. So you'll have those two, and but then you'll get the weekly episodes starting in January.
SPEAKER_02Will it be weird to see that? There's your ghost updates in CBS, the season. I haven't never even heard of that. Will now have the uh summer in it. Because you're normally you don't get that. Because if you've got a season and it starts in the fall, you get the holidays, you get the Halloween, you get the Christmas, and then you don't after that, you're just done. You don't get any of the summer stuff because they just don't have it as well. Right, it's just not there yet. It helps writers out.
SPEAKER_01Like, oh, it's awesome.
SPEAKER_00This looks like a cute little show. I didn't you've never seen ghosts.
SPEAKER_01It's based off a British.
SPEAKER_02The British one is awesome. Yeah, like if you watch the British one, they don't hold anything back. But it's really pretty good. You've got I will check it out. It's pretty good. It's pretty good. The American version's a little more campy, but it's pretty pretty good.
SPEAKER_01I watched the first two or three episodes of the British version, and it was like, eh, I I enjoyed it, but then the because the new version was coming out, and then I just jumped on the US version and was there.
SPEAKER_02I watched her in iZombie, which is really good. That was pretty cool. That was her first show that she started on. Gotcha.
SPEAKER_00I watched some ghost show where it was um teenagers who were trapped in the school as ghosts.
SPEAKER_01I don't know. That sounds like something out of Stranger Things.
SPEAKER_00Was that what the No, I forget school spirits. It's called school spirits.
SPEAKER_01I mean the whole boundary thing, I I get the ghost boundary.
SPEAKER_00She has to they have to be in high school in the 80s, I think. Oh no, it's it's she's now, but there's an 80s football star, there's a 1960s person, like all these people are still trapped in the high school.
SPEAKER_01High school.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It was it was okay. Look that up. I'm curious. Look that a little bit. School spirits. School spirit, is that what it was called? Okay. Perfect.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Was that like on AMC or something?
SPEAKER_02I can't remember.
SPEAKER_01Or is that another TLC show?
SPEAKER_02TLC. Lovely.
SPEAKER_01Is it it breaks up the 90-day fiance? Yeah, I think. Right, yes.
SPEAKER_02Or the Nickelodeon.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_00I I wanted to just touch a little bit on reality TV for uh tw 2011.
SPEAKER_01Because reality TV started around 2009-ish.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So we there was a ton of stuff, but some notable things. New York Inc. premiered. Did you all watch Miami Inc.?
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_01That's the one. I mean, I know the show. I know of the show, but I never watched it.
SPEAKER_00So it it spun off to New York Inc. with Amy James. I love, love, love him. Um, and also in New York, Courtney and Kim take New York. So it was a big year for New York.
SPEAKER_02Wow. Yeah, I would say. East Coast Coast.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. That that those were the big ones. Nice.
SPEAKER_01Reality.
SPEAKER_00In my mind.
SPEAKER_01Perfect. Okay. Gotcha. Dave, you have innovations? I'll blast through some of these. I was just going to blast through the innovations.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Well, okay. So Siri was introduced and integrated into your iPhone 4S. Oh, yeah. Like at 15 or 20 something now.
SPEAKER_0117. I think 17.
SPEAKER_02You're on a 17. I'm not. I'm on a 13th. I'm not either.
SPEAKER_01I'm on a 13. I'm on a 12.
SPEAKER_00There's no 13.
SPEAKER_02Uber uh started its major rollout, expanding to New York, Chicago, and Paris. The first artificial heart valve transplant occurred, and that was in 2011. That's interesting that I would have thought it would have been a little earlier, but this was the valve, and it actually kept um the artificial valve. The valve transplant, which actually um instead of replacing the whole heart, you can just replace the valve. Okay. Which actually uh reduced recovery. Yeah. So instead of having to go through that whole scenario of a whole heart, you could just do your valves, which actually worked well. Um HIV prevention breakthroughs occurred with the anti-retroviral drug reducing HIV transmissions by 96%. Say that ten times faster. I know. I went I'm blowing through it. Um Mars Curiosity rover was launched. Um it was the um I think it was the one that actually uh lasted the longest uh of the rovers that went up. Okay. Um the world population hit seven billion. Crazy. There was a nano air vehicle. Now this one's a little freaky. Engineers produced and unveiled a 16.5 centimeter drone prototype and it mimicked the flight of a hummingbird. And this thing was for for surveillance. Now you can't tell me that they aren't using this now. Yeah, right. Yeah. I mean, come on, seriously. Yeah, yeah. And then um there was this thing called uh whissips. Now, this was a it was the world's first transparent photovoltaic film. Um basically it turned anything into a power source. So you can cover this thing with this film, and it actually used solar-powered cells uh between transparent uh areas, which would create the film looking transparent. So basically you could cover anything with it, and then it would be its own power source. That's kind of cool. I know, right? Yeah um and then the uh last thing I have is the re-cell, which was spray on skin. This actually grew cells when sprayed on applications that were like bad birds.
SPEAKER_01Right. And it would create uh new cells to grow fast. Yeah. Obviously, it just helps and was first.
SPEAKER_00Is it made from like stem cells?
SPEAKER_02No, it was basically kind of like an antibiotic spray that like congeals together and forms.
SPEAKER_01It creates your new skin. It actually helped you create new skin. Anyway, great. Hey, hey, it happened. All right, was that was that it for your innovation?
SPEAKER_02That is actually it. Okay.
SPEAKER_01All right, are you getting your spinner on? I am getting my spinners up. My spinners up. Spinny spinning away. So, Joanne, while he's doing that, let's talk about 98 fiance. No, no, God no, I'm spinning.
SPEAKER_02I'm spinning, god damn it. Do we want to do 1997 or do we want to try again? Because that's close to two.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, that's when Reagan was born.
SPEAKER_0297. Perfect. Yeah, sounds the 97.
SPEAKER_00That's my whole update for 1997. I was pregnant the whole year.
SPEAKER_01Perfect. 97. Okay, cool. Lovely. And we're gonna add some new categories to we'll go over them, we'll figure it out. Yeah, Dave came up with some list today, and Joanne and I thought that was a great idea. Let's get some new categories in. Yeah, new categories. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And we would like to know should we dive way, way back?
SPEAKER_01Yes. Like further than the Falco death?
SPEAKER_02Further than 1970, which is the earliest year every year.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. 71, I think the earliest year.
SPEAKER_00Do we go back in California?
SPEAKER_01Do we even go further? Oh, Matt from California had mentioned it. Yes.
SPEAKER_00He he he requested 1560. Could you imagine?
SPEAKER_01We'll look into that. That would be funny. That would be possible. I think maybe we should do like a mini episode, like a shortcut. We'll do a mini episode. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00We'll tell we Dave and I have a plan to test out the first time.
SPEAKER_01We will report back to you on 1587 or whatever. Lovely. Yes. Yes. Okay. All right. So I will see you guys next week. Definitely. All right. Doki dokie. Bye. Bye.
SPEAKER_03Bye bye.
