Didn't we just do 1994?? Oh well, back to the mid 90s again! This week we have Pop Culture, Food, Innovations, TV, Movies and Music. We also play a little trivia.
1995. So quick van update from last week. The van exploded.
SPEAKER_00I've been thinking about it all week.
SPEAKER_04The van has what had happened was the uh transmission fluid uh valve or whatever hose wasn't seated correctly on back onto the radiator when the radiator was replaced. So the it was transmission fluid that was all over the place, not oil. Oh. And yeah, so it was it was all yeah. So it was 230 bucks to fix it.
SPEAKER_00That's amazing. Oh, I'm so happy for you.
SPEAKER_04So they got it fixed. We drove around today and it was fine, and everything seems all right, and we're we're all good. So that was the relief. The quick van update. And then so then right after dinner, my dishwasher stops working. You have been cursed with this dishwasher. We've had it two months.
SPEAKER_02If that. Seriously.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. And now I go and I I even checked that went out to the circuit breaker panel and the circuit breaker and threw it and reset it and came back in and like, nope, it's still not lighting up and no nothing's working on it. That's awful. Great. Paper plates. Well, yeah, for starting tomorrow. Paper plates and cups. Paper plates and cups. Forks and knives again. Jeez.
SPEAKER_00Back to the olden days.
SPEAKER_04Anyway, so last week I did have a second uh quick topic to discuss that. I'm sure our listeners are gonna be just like, why did you bury the lead on this?
SPEAKER_01Oh gosh.
SPEAKER_04Okay, so when you go to Chick-fil-A, do you open the bag by tearing the top part open, or do you open the bag and take the sandwich out and then put the sandwich on top of the bag like it's a little tray? The second one.
SPEAKER_01Second one.
SPEAKER_04Really? You don't just rip the top open? No. Oh my god. Minimal.
SPEAKER_02You hold like a big tag.
SPEAKER_04You hold the bottom and you take your thumb and your finger on the top and just rip the top part. Because then you can dump your fries on the open side of the heated little thing.
SPEAKER_00Well, now they're waffle fries.
SPEAKER_04And then yeah. And that's how I've always done it. Huh. So it's crazy. But then I my wife and I were talking about it. Like we realized, wait, do people just take it out of the back? Because like all my kids and stuff, now they've learned that and they do it too. It's just like and then you pour some waffle fries out.
SPEAKER_02But doesn't uh Chick-fil-A do the ketchup in a cup? No. Yeah, they do. It's a little plastic cup and you rip off the top and it's a little dip in.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's the dip in ketchup. Yeah, dip in ketchup.
SPEAKER_02So why would you even mine? Oh my God. Really?
SPEAKER_00We have packets.
SPEAKER_02Oh God. We get the little plastic cup thing you rip it off at the top.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So like you can tear it and squeeze it, or you can peel it and dip it.
SPEAKER_02And dip it. So why would you need an extra solid?
SPEAKER_00Not like at Roy Rogers where you pump it. It actually is like a ramp. It's like a salad dressing.
SPEAKER_02I think the Roy Rogers, they actually uh eliminated the salad Vixen's bottom.
SPEAKER_04I haven't been to a Roy Rogers in forever. I think you might uh for a bacon cheeseburger though. Yes.
SPEAKER_00I freaking love that. I love Roy Rogers. That might be my favorite over Burger King.
SPEAKER_04Roy Rogers?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Oh wow. We have three in Leesburg.
SPEAKER_02We're gonna have to come up with a pecking order of our fast food burger places because uh there's a there's a lot out there, so you gotta put them all in order now.
SPEAKER_00I had um uh what's the Smash Burger Place?
SPEAKER_04Smash Burger.
SPEAKER_00Smash Burger Weston Town Center. Is it smash?
SPEAKER_04Smash burger.
SPEAKER_00Delicious.
SPEAKER_04Was it smashed? Like a burger?
SPEAKER_00Not as much as I would have hoped. Oh, really?
SPEAKER_04I'm not a fan of Smash Burgers because I was I was always taught that you let the you you never squash the meat because you're squashing the flavor out of it. Okay, and the juice out of it. You let it cook evenly. Yeah, and then you never you never squash it.
SPEAKER_00Well, I think you're getting better for those of us who don't like uh blood.
SPEAKER_02Well, I think you're getting shortchanged when you get it. Yeah, that's true. Yeah. You're getting the thinnest, thinnest, you're getting a white castle, basically. And those things are just, you know, crazy things.
SPEAKER_04Those are barely beef.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00No, I I I find that it's got more flavor when it's smashed.

SPEAKER_00Like less juiciness, but more of like if they use some kind of rub or something.
SPEAKER_04Gotcha. I can do that to regular rubber.
SPEAKER_00Really?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and I'm not a fan. I don't like I don't like that chalky texture taste. Dry rub, dry. I don't like that.
SPEAKER_00We are all so particular.
SPEAKER_04We don't like it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we all have our tastes and our our quirks. Yes. No good.
SPEAKER_04Okay, so Joanne, what happened with you this week? Anything fun?
SPEAKER_00Oh my goodness. We traveled back home.
SPEAKER_04Yes.
SPEAKER_00I was in town.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_00So it was my mom's 80th birthday on Saturday. Shout out, Stevie. So we had uh my brother. Yes, yes. If it was a very small gathering. I saw, I saw the tables actually. I saw it. I saw it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So we had festivities on Friday and Saturday, and then Mother's Day on Sunday. Oh my goodness. And yeah, so it was just all weekend, and you know, the weeks when I'm visiting, the weeks are crazy because we're working and like trying to do stuff, and then the weekends are just packed, and I am exhaustified. But we got a new bed. Oh, it just came today. I'm so excited. So I'll report on that next week. It's only been 23 years.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Oh, good. Wow. Yeah. So they'll you get to remove the uh valleys that are in your mattress right now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, we we have the sleep number bad, which I love. Oh wow, blah, blah, blah, love. But um, they are so expensive now.
SPEAKER_02They're stupid expensive. Did you get that one again or did you find something a replacement?
SPEAKER_00No, we wound up getting a nectar with the adjustable frame.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I've seen the commercials of those.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and it's got like cooling stuff in it.

SPEAKER_00New bed is cool. And we're back with the cat, and he is so happy he was like all up in our faces last night all through the night.
SPEAKER_02Didn't hold a grudge. Didn't he have a chance?
SPEAKER_00And he followed Mark around the house like all day.
SPEAKER_02If he was gonna leave, he's gonna latch on, I'm sure.
SPEAKER_00Right. Well, and then little does he know, Mark's leaving again in couple of weeks and he's gonna test. Yeah, so there you go.
SPEAKER_02Is Mark the number one human?
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, for sure. Oh, really?
SPEAKER_02Okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_00It'll take him probably when Mark goes away, it'll take Jasper like three days to realize that I'm the only one at home, and then he'll start to warm up to me. Yeah. Oh, yeah. He's very independent.
SPEAKER_02Yes, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I get that. I get that.
SPEAKER_02Kitty cats. Cats usually are.
SPEAKER_00He's a cute boy. He weighs more than your dogs combined, I think.
SPEAKER_04Probably. Because yeah, I got three small dogs.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Cool. Dave, so what happened with you?
SPEAKER_02Uh you said you had a fish failure. We had an issue with one of our fish. Uh we noticed him about a week ago. He was just lying on his side at the bottom of the pond. And we thought, oh, he's getting old. He probably is just getting ready to go. So we kind of let him, you know, live his days. But then all of a sudden he's unlike the other fish, which he works like a slave. Oh, yes, yes. They've they gotta earn their keep. Exactly. Um just keep swimming, just keep swimming. Just keep going. Look performative. I have a video to shoot. Um, the uh he was up and about and moving around, and we were like, well, he's very active for not being or not wanting to live anymore. So we took a look at him at close range and he had some kind of sore spot on his side. Oh, and he was all crooked. Now, I think he was attacked and he's kind of gotten a bite mark in him or something. But we're treating him for a fungus on his side. But I don't know why he would be all crooked if he did. So we're actually calling him Jerry's side fade, Seinfeld, sidefade. Sidefeld. Yes, because he's sideways. He swims sideways together. Get the joke right the first time. Jerry's Seinfeld.
SPEAKER_00I get it. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_02So Jerry's so Jerry is now in a quarantine tank, and I am emptying the water. Uh it's a 10-gallon tank we got with an aerator in it, and I'm emptying the water and then putting the new chems in and then fill in water again. So he's getting like concentrated treatment. And we have to just keep an eye on him and make sure. Is the frog Kramer? The frog is actually Goliath. He is huge. You wouldn't be able to grab this frog with two hands. That's how big this one frog is. He's massive.
SPEAKER_00And he has this is tank fish or outdoor fish?
SPEAKER_02These are all outdoor fish. These are all out in the pond. And I don't even know where the frogs came from because we don't really have. I mean, the frogs kind of lived in the drain to the pool in the summers. But this guy has been in this pond for quite a while. And all of the tadpoles. There had been a hundred and some tadpoles in the bottom of the of the pond uh from this guy. So I don't know what's I guess girl now. I guess I guess we should say. Well, they're asexual, right? But who knows? Anyway, um, yeah, and then um I had a wonderful squirrel encounter on the way here today. I am driving from the grocery store um because I had to pick up some dog food, and uh, I had left early. And on the main road out of um Percival, a squirrel decides he's going to bolt out in front of the road. I couldn't go anywhere because it was two lanes. I had no escape route, and I just I just squished it. I unfortunately I missed him. He actually was underneath my car and I drove right over him. Oh wow and I did not feel a bump or anything like that. And I looked back and I did not see a body, so I didn't hit him. I don't know how I didn't, but I he he's just had a a guardian angel or something because he was gone when I when I turned around or like looked in the rear.
SPEAKER_04There was one night I was coming home, and you know where Deer Alley is, that wooded area right before you come up the mountain. Yeah, deer alley. I was there was a truck, a pickup truck right beside me in the right lane. I was in the left lane slightly back from him, and I swear to God, this deer jumped out in front of him. He slammed on the brakes, I slammed on the brakes, and I don't know how he didn't hit that deer. Oh my god. Because the deer just literally like 180 flip backwards back out of trouble, like the guy didn't hit. I'm like, how did he that was that was like a dead-on like plant right through the front grill. Oh my god. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I'm having uh uh throwback something.
SPEAKER_04Sorry, sorry. Yeah, PSTD. Yes, oh my gosh. Anyway, so that yeah. So I don't know how one night how that deer made it away from us. Right. Oh that's that's just scary.
SPEAKER_00I think everybody has some kind of green. We've all got our deer stories.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And I had a play I went to.
SPEAKER_02I went to a play.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you did? What did you go to?
SPEAKER_02On the Sunday, we had Rennie's last play of her of her senior year. High school career. Yes. It was Seussical, which was a Dr. Seuss musical. Yeah, it was interesting. Um, yeah, that's all I can actually say. Okay. I'm allowed to say about it. That's all you're allowed to say. That's all I'm allowed to say about it. Interesting. It was very uh interesting. Um, yeah.
SPEAKER_04And um like when you describe someone as a unique individual.
SPEAKER_02Yes, they like that's all I they have a lot of uh talent. Um yeah, so and then um and then we had Mother's Day dinner. Yep, Mother's Day.
SPEAKER_00What did you cook?
SPEAKER_02Uh no one we went out. We went out to a restaurant. Yeah, we uh after the play, we were kind of cutting it close, so we figured we'd go to Mexican and we went to uh matcha in uh in Leesburg.
SPEAKER_04Okay, we we got Indian food. Oh, nice. And we do a faux Mother's Day on Saturday because I always work on Sundays. Right. So Mother's Day, follow any any Sunday holiday outside of Easter, because we close on Easter and I'm off that day. Like, yeah, any of the made-up holidays on a Sunday, yeah. Those are those are we celebrate them on Saturday and then it's good. It's good.
SPEAKER_00What what do you do for 4th of July? He's off.
SPEAKER_04I'm off. Yeah. So we're closed on on 4th of July. Federal holidays, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas. We're open New Year's Day, though. Nine of them, right? Oh, yeah, that's not a good one.
SPEAKER_00Sucks. I guess a lot of people want to skate.
SPEAKER_04Oh yeah. Yeah, it's a lot of family like that. Yeah, get out.
SPEAKER_02And yeah, please get these kids away from me. Public skates. Yeah, I would think. Cool. Any corrections, Dave? I do. Oh my gosh, I do. Um so there was a couple. We saw um, I saw in the uh Buffalo NHL game, the last one that was played, they sh they had a shot of a couple who was wearing um, you know how they have the cheese hats, right, for Green Bay, and everybody's getting on the field. They had a buffalo wing. It was awesome. Oh my gosh, that'd be funny. So awesome. It was so cool. Yeah, it was huge, but it was so good. I don't know if they made that or if they actually sell them. It was really good. Um, so there was that one. Cool stuff. Um we talked about the Met Gala dresses, and the funniest thing was I was vaguely remembering you were talking about two of the dresses. One of them was the bubble dress, and another one was the intestines dress. Right. Yeah. And in my head, I was like, wait, where have I heard that for? In in Perform uh This Way, the weird Al Yankovic song, they mention he mentions both of those dresses in the song, which is funny as hell. And I was like, God damn it. And I listened to it on the way here, and actually, uh, because I had to know because I was listening to the podcast this afternoon. And he mentioned he mentioned both of those two dresses in the song because it's a song, it's a parody about Lady Gaga, and she was dressing in the meat dress, and so he was like So he just made it up, he made it up, yeah, and then they came up with the bubble dress and the uh where uh intestines around my neck.

SPEAKER_02That's so weird. It was funny. It's crazy. Yeah, Yankovic on tour of the summer. Exactly. Um okay, and then I know that uh your wife brought this up, Pern. Um, Richard Parker, the tri the tiger. I was wondering why the hell he was named Richard Parker. It turns out that the uh shipping uh uh the shipping um company who was shipping the tiger actually had a clerical error when putting the paperwork in for the tiger and then put the hunter's name in place of the tiger's name. And that was Richard Parker was the hunter's name, and he was actually going to name the tiger thirsty because the tiger was always thirsty.
SPEAKER_04Oh, so side note of funny things like that. Yesterday at my son's track meet, there was a kid that uh does the hundred meter or or two hundred meter or hurdles or whatever it is, and uh his name is Parker Lewis. Oh, funny and and he won. So he can't lose.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's nice. That's pretty good.

SPEAKER_00So I saw I saw a license plate that said Dr. Thurston the other day.
SPEAKER_02Wow. Weird. Okay. How was that spelled out? Thurston.
SPEAKER_00D R D R T H something like that.
SPEAKER_02Thurston's. Yeah, but that's that's a lot of letters to get Thurston.
SPEAKER_00They left out a lot of letters.
SPEAKER_02Oh, there we go. Okay. Yeah. Maybe it could have been something else. You don't know what it was.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Could have been something. Um we uh we talked about Falco. Yes. And we're gonna I know we're gonna do our special Falco episode, but let's just touch base. He passed away in 1998. Stay tuned. Okay. And uh and the um he had died from a sustained injuries during the collision with a tourist bus. Yeah, okay. Yeah. Yeah. All right, interesting. There was that. Well, we'll get deeper into that later. Yep. And we had mentioned the K-pop demon hunter. And it turns out that Lisa had found out that at the Tally Ho in Leesburg, which is a concert venue for anyone passing through, um, they're having a family K-pop demon hunter sing-along concert.
SPEAKER_00Okay, you guys need to go to that.
SPEAKER_02Um, no, no. And uh but she asked if I went to go hard because I had mentioned it, and that was kind of funny. So yeah, she asked if I wanted to go.
SPEAKER_00But amazing.
SPEAKER_02I do not need to go. Yeah, I don't either. I'll pass on that one. Yeah, I don't think I need to go.
SPEAKER_00Think of the contents.
SPEAKER_02I watched I watched Feeling. Yeah, but then what? What I'm just gonna say, we went. I mean, I'm not gonna have video or anything. Right.

SPEAKER_02I wonder who I would dress up as. I I don't want character. One of the demons, maybe. Apparently.

SPEAKER_02So it's uh yeah, there's a girl and a boy pop band that compete against each other.
SPEAKER_00The boys are the demons.
SPEAKER_02The demons, right. But they all kind of have that look of a boy pop band, Korean pop band. It's kind of funny. K-pop, yeah. Yeah, that's true. That's why it's called K-pop. I know, but the demon hunters were the K-pop group originally. So that's why they said yes, exactly.
SPEAKER_00Did I tell you about my K-pop?
SPEAKER_02K-pop with the K-pop? Oh, let's talk about K-pop. K-pop? K-pop.
SPEAKER_00During COVID, I decided it would be a good idea to um K-pop? Light lighten parts of my hair and then dye it a nice blue.
SPEAKER_02As a K-pop person?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, as a K-pop person. So, you know, they had the because my hair is black, they had to bleach it out, part of it out.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_00And I sent my sister a picture of it.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And my sister, my my nephew goes, Okay, Mrs. K-pop.
SPEAKER_02I thought it was fabulous. There's the time. Mrs. K-Pop. Mrs. K-pop. There you go.

SPEAKER_01Oh, yes. Yes.
SPEAKER_04Amazon and eBay. Oh, wow. Were started.
SPEAKER_00That's a good year.
SPEAKER_04Um, the biggest dance craze in God knows how long you can remember. Can anybody name it? Hey Macarena. There you go. Nice. Um Toy Story was the first computer animated full-length feature. Wow. And came out that year. So that was huge for Toy Story. And that I I remember vaguely the story about how like the hard drives almost got erased that had the fully rendered movie on it. Right. As could you imagine? I would have set them back a little bit. And luckily, some guy changed the backup discs on another hard drive to so it would back up because it almost like it would it would do an auto, I think, backup and then it erases the files. Yeah, the previous versions. And so luckily he had it, yeah, like all backed up.
SPEAKER_02You would think that they wouldn't have that as their backup system. Like they would think they would keep like every version. Yeah, you think absolutely so you could just add that to the build. You know what I mean? Yeah. I would think. I would think.
SPEAKER_00Do you think we just weren't sophisticated enough then? Or people didn't like that that would happen.
SPEAKER_04I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I mean the technology wasn't there.
SPEAKER_04Right. So maybe like it is.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I always like to know why we appeared really stupid in the past. Because we were? No, it was the technology.
SPEAKER_02It was the technology. We couldn't, yeah. The tech wasn't keeping up.
SPEAKER_00It wasn't us.
SPEAKER_02Yes. Right.
SPEAKER_00Not our fault.
SPEAKER_02We were way ahead of the curve.
SPEAKER_04So big album that year was Alanus More Set's Jagged Little Pill. Could not get away from that record. It was like played nonstop on MTV. And then as soon as one single was out, the next single is out, and then the next single is out. And then it was just like, yeah, the Alanus More Set Jagged Little Pill record, which I was not a big fan of to start with. And then I just completely embraced it and was like, wow, what a great record.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_04But at first I was just like, mmm, not really a fan of her. I it was the whole like angsty, you gotta know, was the first single. It was just so angry, angsty. And it was it was had nothing to do with the song being like against men. That was I was just I didn't like the sound. I was just like, I was like, mmm, yeah. So but then like you know, when Jagged Little Pill came out, and then what was the one where she's in the backseat of the car? Ironic. Ironic, yeah. That one, yeah, yeah. Yeah, that's been parodied so many times. Um also that year the OJ Simpson verdict happened, because we mentioned in 1994 when the the slow guess the slow drive slow drive runaway OJ Simpson thing happened, but then the trial had happened and the verdict came out in fall of uh of '95. Um the murder of Selena. Do you remember that?
SPEAKER_02Yes, I do.
SPEAKER_04I never I had never heard Selena's music before. And then like and then well, yeah, and then she died, and then I was like, who is this? And like, oh, she was like a Latino pop star kind of thing. I was like, oh, okay. And I then I I've heard songs obviously since. Right, right. I had no clue who she was when she when she passed. Um circles. And Brad Pitt was nominated or not nominated, he was he was officially named Sexiest Man Alive. Oh, yeah, of course. So think about Brad Pitt.
SPEAKER_00Of course, Brad Pitt.
SPEAKER_04What other blockbusters came up that year? Oh, well, we're gonna get to move. Yeah, we'll get to that. We'll get to that. TV. I've got a TV segment coming up, so I'll skip TV. Ginks's Paradise was the number one song by Coolio, along with TLC's Waterfall.
SPEAKER_00I have some pop news that killing me. Dr. Dre is dating one of the moms from The Valley, which is a spin-off of Vanderpump Rules, but he's not dating someone who was on Vanderpump Rules.
SPEAKER_04I thought he was married. Did he get divorced?
SPEAKER_00I guess, I guess so. They're together in public. So yeah, it just reminded me when it was.
SPEAKER_04Oh, wait, I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_00What the heck is up with that, by the way? I had I heard his name, and you know, I don't pay attention to football, but I heard his name coming up in like my podcasts.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Was it an ESPN reporter? Is that who she is?
SPEAKER_00Something like that.
SPEAKER_04And they've had flirty whatever.
SPEAKER_00Flirtiness.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and seen together as far back as 2022.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I think it went even before that. This weekend it came out a photo of them renting a boat together in like Tennessee or something, and she's pregnant.
SPEAKER_02Oh, we could go away.
SPEAKER_00So it's from from way out of the way.
SPEAKER_02Are you allowed to be on a boat if you're pregnant?
SPEAKER_00It was just the two of them.
SPEAKER_02Really? You're not supposed to fly, but I guess a boat. Yeah. We'll in the third trimester. Yes, that's true. So that's the one it's amazing you know that. Anyway. Anyway, I'm just impressed you knew that one. You kind of pulled that out of the room.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that the Mike Grable one. Yeah, that was kind of a right. Anyway. So back to 1995. So Jerry Garcia passed away that year.
SPEAKER_02God, you were all over my you're just stepping all over my holy music shit. Well, that was more. Oh, okay. Sorry.
SPEAKER_04It's all good.
SPEAKER_02It's all good. It overlaps. It's we'll revise it because I have some other stuff.

SPEAKER_04And and I actually, the reason why I went in and I was like, I'm going to watch a movie that night is because the movie theater closed that Thursday night. That was it. Like in Feroak's movie theater was no longer a thing. So that last night.

SPEAKER_04Yeah. And I so I went and watched Outbreak in the theater and sat in the seats where I sat and watched Indian Jones and billion other movies. Yeah. Oh, what a nice seats. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02Good call good call Carsland is my favorite at Disney I love Carsland and I've still never been I've always I was ready to like we went kidnap London and take him for the uh rollercoaster ride in that one where they go through the canyon it was was insane. It was like three hours I'm like I can't I just love the scenery. Oh yeah I mean it feels like you're in the cartoon I loved them decorating the themes when they do the Halloween or the Christmas ones and then they have that at that area. It was really kind of good we did the Christmas one it was kind of neat. Cool.
SPEAKER_04Anyway I haven't been to Disney in like eight years and I'm I'm Jones and for a trip but you know my wife has the next vacation she wants to take go somewhere else once Disney I want to go back to Disney too long.
