S3 E14 - 2003

2003 seems like such a forgettable year. It wasn't, some pretty great things happened that year! This week we have Wanted: Dead or Alive, Innovations, Movies, Sports, Icons, Fun & Games and a 2 Real 1 Fake.
2003. I've had a complete shit day. I heard I felt it because of yes. It just it I was so pressed for time. Right. From the time I woke up to getting to this point to record the show tonight, and nothing went according to plan, and it all went out the window. And Dave shows up to my house and goes, Are you missing a car? Because I don't usually pick up that drive that far up into the driveway. And I was like, Yes, I am. And he goes, What happened? I said, wait for the show. Oh god. Pins and needles. My son and I were on our way in the 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette minivan. 26-year-old car, which I've mentioned before in the show that, you know, we're gonna drive it into the ground. Right. And we may have just done that today.
SPEAKER_02Didn't pull a blues brothers in the in the Walmart parking lot?
SPEAKER_05Oh hold on. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_03Oh no.

SPEAKER_05We're accelerating the on-ramp onto the highway.
SPEAKER_03Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_05And and my son is driving, and I'm passenger. And we're going to go to my wife's work to swap cars. Okay. So, which is a whole even bigger, longer story, but I'm not going to even get into that because it's not relevant. Anyway, so we're out. We're going to go swap cars with my wife and give her the van and we're picking up my car. And so we're accelerating up the ramp to get onto the highway, and there's this asshole in jacked up Ford F-150 in the right lane. And we come up and we're slightly ahead of him, but he won't let off the gas and give us any room to get in front of him. Oh, of course. So my son hits the gas because he's like, We're already ahead of him. We need to get it's either that or slam on the brakes and then have to get behind you know behind him. I don't mind getting behind people, but this guy's just being a dick. And he would not budge. He was like almost like right in the blind spot, you know, like I'm not moving. Right. And like clearly you can see we're trying to merge on, and there was nobody in the other lane. There was nobody in front of him, there was nobody behind him. Right.
SPEAKER_03So he could have gotten over.
SPEAKER_05Well, you know what? When I'm driving and I see people coming down an offer on an on-ramp to come on, if I'm in that lane and there's nobody in the lane beside me, I get over to give them the spot to get it to merge in. That's just common courtesy driving. Especially when there's traffic. When there's not traffic, yeah. So my son punches it to get ahead of him even more enough the car length to then get over. Right. And he hits it, and we're running out of lane. Like the lane's coming to, and I'm like, whoa, whoa, oh my gosh. And London's like, this guy. And I'm just like, I look over, and then finally, at the last second, as we're about to drive off the road, the guy switches lanes.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god.
SPEAKER_05And I'm just like, you're a dick. You are a fucking.
SPEAKER_02Could have done that at any moment.
SPEAKER_05Exactly. Like when he saw us coming on the ramp, maybe when we were, you know, whatever. Yeah, right. So next to him, yeah. Two seconds later, not maybe five seconds later, ten seconds later, we are driving. We're still driving on and we're down on the highway, and this guy jerks, you know, gone on ahead and you know, floored it and whatever, and blah, blah. And my son goes, There's like water coming out from behind the van.
SPEAKER_00Oh.
SPEAKER_05And I'm like, what? And I look in the side mirror and then I turn around and look, I'm like, that's not water, that's smoke. Yes. We are smoking right now. Oh my goodness. So we're right at the almost to the next exit. And right at that exit, there's a McDonald's, and you know, it's right across the street from the hospital and Walmart and all that stuff like that. So I just told him, I said, next exit, get off. And he's like, okay, because my wife's work is the next exit up past that. Okay. So we were uh close, we were like halfway there. And I said, just get off at this exit and go get to the McDonald's parking lot. And he's like, okay, and like we're slowing down and stuff like that. And we get around into the McDonald's parking lot, which is literally right off the exit. And we had to stop because there was a car backing out of a spot that was leaving. And that car goes, and then London goes to hit the gas, and it just goes and we're not going to go. And it's like, we're not going. What's and then it finally picked up and gave us enough of momentum to get going forward. And we pull up into a spot. Thank goodness. I get out, and there is oil just pouring out the front. It was all it was all down the sides. It was still smoking. So like we raised we raised the you know, the front hood, and you know, and it the smoke's coming from the bottom. At first, I thought the exhaust it was exhaust. And I was like, oh no, this is like, and then I looked at the rear tire and it looked like somebody armor all the rear tire. I'm like, oh, that's oil all over.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god.
SPEAKER_05And all over the back of the van, it splashed up even onto the back window. Like you could literally your finger right in the room. How did that happen? I don't know. I don't know. So the we had the radiator replaced back in the fall. I remember. Sometime, I think it was, because we were trying to get heat for the van. Right. And replacing the radiator was nothing. So my son takes it to his school where they have a repair shop, and that's how they teach, they have a class and blah blah blah and do all stuff. It's like that. So him and his buddy had done the thing on it, and he's he's taking it so hard, he thinks that it's all his fault. Oh no. Oh, he's shooting. He's like, We we didn't, we we obviously didn't attach, you know, the the oil, whatever line properly, and he goes, That's my that's and he's like, Oh my god, I can't. And he's like having like a panic attack.
SPEAKER_02And he's like, I could almost bet that the hose was just worn out. Oh my god, the van's 26 years old. All those parents are the same age, so yeah, exactly. So I just yeah, if anything, it's a learning experience to fix that part now. Right, exactly.
SPEAKER_05Um so he's he's taking it all like personal, and this is his car too. So it's also like if he's if the car's dying, then he's just lost his car, and because he just got his driver's license, and so he's you know, he's taking this really hard in the parking lot at McDonald's.
SPEAKER_02Yes, yes, always a place to do that.
SPEAKER_05He wants to find well and I told him I said, you know, so immediately I you know I called our uh the repair shop we use locally and just said, hey, blah, blah, blah. I said, Do you have a wrecking crew, a wrecker service that you know can come and give us a tow that you recommend? That and he goes, Oh, yeah, you know, call these guys or these guys. You know, he gave me two or three names and goes, any of those places, yeah, they'll get we're we're you know good with them. And I was like, okay, cool. I called one of them, the guy said, Okay, great, took my information. I said, I'm just in the back of the McDonald's parking lot, right off 37, right across from the hospital. He goes, No exactly where you are, okay, cool. And so it took him about 45 minutes to get there. And he goes, Yeah, I didn't have trouble finding you, I just followed the oil leak all the way around the parking lot. He did. And I started, I started laughing, and I was like, You can see our trail of oil all the way from the highway into McDonald's parking lot.
SPEAKER_02That's a lot of oil then.
SPEAKER_05Honestly. And when we stopped and raised the hood and everything like that, yeah, the oil was. You're still blowing away. The oil was just dripping straight onto the asphalt in dry. I mean, it was a big thing.
SPEAKER_02That's why you were smoking. It was getting on the engine.
SPEAKER_05Oh, yeah, exactly, and burning off.
SPEAKER_02Because it had to be the pressure when he floored it, it probably got the pressure. That's what we're thinking. Exactly. But that hose was gonna blow as soon as you did that any other time. Right, and it's not his fault. It just happened.
SPEAKER_05We at dinner we were like, no one is holding this against you. This is not like it's just how it was that guy in the truck's fault.
SPEAKER_01Let's go get it out.
SPEAKER_05Like, it probably would have held up fine. Yeah, yeah, it would have happened some other time.
SPEAKER_01I don't get how oil splashed up on the back.
SPEAKER_05Dude, it's all over the van. I don't even know. It's it's coming out the side like by the turn signal light and the where the side panel is. I don't know. There's oil everywhere, and like, yeah. So it's it's a mess.
SPEAKER_01I was afraid you were gonna say that and the truck had a rifle. And the next thing you'd have is like parenting myself.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we gotta do a gunfight on the highway.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. Well, I don't know the country out there.
SPEAKER_02I don't know if you can tell, but Joanne's actually in studio. Joanne's in studio. Yes, yes. She's joined us in studio. Speaking, yes.
SPEAKER_05She's on the other side of the room from us right now, which is so it's cool that we're all in the same room.
SPEAKER_01Look at the back of Purnell's head.
SPEAKER_05Yep, back of my head. But you get to see Dave's smiling face. I do get to see that. Yes, that's perfect.
SPEAKER_01It might be a problem later on. Yeah, I have a feeling we're gonna go. The eye contact might that should just be wrong. Yeah, we might dissolve into giggles at any moment.
SPEAKER_05It's like when your dog takes that poo and looks at you and you're like, I don't want eye contact with you right now. I don't want to look at you. No, too, do your poop. I I don't need to. Do you know the reason why dogs look at you to lock eyes while they're pooping is because that's when they're at their most vulnerable and you're their protection. And so they look that's why they lock eyes with you because they're like, watch my back while I'm doing this. Hello. Exactly.
SPEAKER_02So that's great. I guess that's why they always want to be in our bathrooms. Right.
SPEAKER_00That's they're like, I got you. I got you, I got you.
SPEAKER_05I got you. Right here. Right here. I also found out that dogs have names for their humans.
SPEAKER_00What? Really?
SPEAKER_05Yes, just like the way we give them a name, like you know, my dog Reese. I was one of those like little factoid things online, like, you know, facts about animals or dogs or something like that. And how do they find that out? I don't know. There's scientists that have done something. Dr. Doolittle. Yeah, I don't know. But dogs in their heads have names for each one of us. Interesting.
SPEAKER_02I wonder what mine is.
SPEAKER_05I know. Weird. We had to come up with our own dog names.
SPEAKER_01You know, my dad's bird. Remember Poncho? Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah. Your dad had a bird.
SPEAKER_01Poncho would have a different squawk for every one of us. Oh, really? So he'd be like, Joe, Joe, Joe. It wasn't a talking parrot. It was just like a Stevie.
SPEAKER_02But you could tell. Jesus. Oh my god, you're blowing them like that.
SPEAKER_05We got it. After the first one, Joanne. We got it. We understood. In studio.
SPEAKER_01But even though like we all had two syllable names except for my dad, it was like a different inflection for my mom and me and my sister. Right.
SPEAKER_05That's interesting.
SPEAKER_02Animals are crazy. Animals are people too. Well, you know, there's a dog app now that if you hold it up, it actually translates your dog's grunts and barks and stuff. Oh wow. So I mean, I think I know mine, my dogs when they need to go out.
SPEAKER_05They do come and tell me when they need to go out. Like they they come and they give me that look, and it's like head tilt, ears flopped. Hey, need to go out.
SPEAKER_01Speaking of animals, we need to discuss what happened on Twitter.
SPEAKER_05What happened on Twitter? On X.
SPEAKER_01I'll never call it X when sheep woke up and said, Good morning to all the animals except Cal. And Cal got pissed and said, What did I do? And then the entire farm yard started tweeting over the weekend. And it was all out animal war on Twitter.
SPEAKER_02Is this your uh Twitter uh face, huh?
SPEAKER_01And Snake was making fun of turtle.
SPEAKER_02Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_01And someone else is making fun of him.
SPEAKER_05I just follow celebrities. I don't follow farm animals. So I don't know.
SPEAKER_01It went farmers, like, why did I give Twitter to all my animals? And then finally Chihuahua came in.
SPEAKER_05Of course. And Chihuahua said oldest and wisest dogs.
SPEAKER_01I am pleased to announce there has been a peace deal brokered by me, President Chihuahua.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_01It was the funniest thing I've ever seen. Oh my god. It was all the animals. It was so funny. And it went on for like 24 hours. It was such a nice break.
SPEAKER_05And another reason I'm not on Twitter.
SPEAKER_01But then Geology Twitter came in, and that's when they said, hey, we started this six years ago. Animals.
SPEAKER_02Right. Chilling.
SPEAKER_01Geology Twitter is the OG.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_01Jesus. Geology Twitter.
SPEAKER_02Talking rocks. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_05Okay, Dave. What do you got, Dave?
SPEAKER_02Okay. I um I had to go to the DMV because my driver's license was expiring. Uh-huh. So I made an appointment. And you would think that, okay, I made an appointment. I should just be able to walk right up and do that. It actually is true. I just want to say that it is completely true. I walked it was my real ID one. Yeah, yeah. I had my paperwork already done when I came in. Um, I uh walked in, it was a 3:30 appointment. I was I was a little early because I figured, oh, there I'm gonna have to sit. So um I didn't have to sit. I walked up. The woman said, Oh, here you go, here's your ticket. And I was like, Okay, cool. I got a text that my ticket number was such and such, and I'm holding the ticket. And I go, That's incredible. Why would I need a text and my numbers in my hand? And then immediately go to window five. And I went, holy Jesus! Like I hadn't left the number. I got a text that said, Go to window five, bitch. And I'm like, oh my God. And I was like, okay. And then I was I was thinking that by the time I got there, they were like, Okay, sorry, canceled. You're too late because it was so quick. And I was like, damn. But yeah, I walked up, got all my paperwork done, handed or my paperwork. Um, you almost need uh a blood test and uh exactly my mortgage statement and and uh yeah, it was everything to prove who I was and where I lived in Virginia, and then turned around and then they I did not realize this because I had had my driver's license before. They make you actually read uh the thing on the you have to read the line. Yep. Um I was having problems uh with my eyes because we were going in and out of light.
SPEAKER_01So you want my readers?
SPEAKER_02I would I was like, oh my god. So she goes, Well, put your head against it and the light will shine. And I'm like, okay. So I put my head against it, and I could not read the two on the right side at all. They were so blurry, like they were so blurry. And I said, uh QL R two seven. And she goes, Oh, okay, can you keep going? I go, No, I can't even read those. And she goes, she goes, Oh, well, try pushing harder. So I I don't know what I was thinking, but I thought harder meant like bash my head into it. And that went, okay, wham. And I'm like, oh, that was stupid. Oh my god. And uh but it pushed it far enough in that it actually lit up more.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And she said, Oh, you just weren't pushing on it far enough. And thank God the other one lit up a little more and I could read it. But I swear the last one was so blurry I couldn't read it. But by the time I got to that one, she was like, Oh, yeah, you're good. Yeah, you just have to read the top three. No problem. So yeah, I got past that. I might next time, but hopefully that's like in 10 or 15 years, I won't have to worry about that.
SPEAKER_01So you have to tell us which location and what time you went. So so we know that's when to go over at work.
SPEAKER_05So hold hold oh no, go ahead and tell that first and then I'll tell mine.
SPEAKER_02What's that?
SPEAKER_05No, just what time and location you went to.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I was over at it was um it was May 1st, so it was the Friday. It was a Friday of all things, and it was 3 30. So it was like, okay, perfect. And it and there was I mean, they had people coming in and going out, but they were moving them on. They were they were moving. That's right.
SPEAKER_05So I had when I bought the most our most recent car um the last fall, or actually it was no, it was December when I got it. Anyway, but whatever. I went to the I had a same thing. I did an appointment for the DMV for the plates and the whole all the you know registration, all that stuff. And my appointment was on a Friday as well, and it was like 3 45. Right. So uh London, my son, went with me and I said, Yeah, you need to experience the DMV, let's go, you know. Right. So enjoy. So we get there 15 minutes early. So yeah, what was that, like 3 30-ish? Yeah, roughly. Yeah, maybe 3 30, 3 35-ish, around that. And we go in and walk up, and I said, Hey, I have an appointment. They're like, Okay, here's your number. Go, you know, you can go sit down, and like we go and sit down, and not even, yeah, like d uh with less than five minutes of sitting, maybe not even two minutes of sitting. It was like, okay, go to window 16. Yeah, right. And it was like you're just in. And I like But if you don't have an appointment, you are sitting around because there were a lot of people sitting, a lot of people that were still standing in line just to check in to tell the forms and to do the yeah, and we walked out at like two minutes after four. I know.
SPEAKER_02I was like really, I was less than five minutes. In fact, I was so early for my appointment, I was out by my appointment time. Amazing. And well, they they uh void out your license and then hand you a piece of paper to walk around with for your driver's license because for some reason they have to do it. Yeah, I'm like waiting for the colour.
SPEAKER_05Even London's driver's license was sent in the mail too. He had to wait like something like six weeks to get it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, doesn't he have to go to the um swearing in ceremony or whatever in the courthouse?
SPEAKER_05That's only if they request that you attend it, but if they just send you your driver's license, you're in the clear and you don't have to do it.
SPEAKER_01Oh, because Cormac had he has his learners and then the piece of paper, and then he'll be called to go in front of the judge or whatever, who will then hand him his license.
SPEAKER_05Right, because he has to make the whatever the little swearing in thing or whatever. So they told us they said you could get picked for it, but random.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_05It's it's just a yeah, but they said if you get your daughter's license in the mail, you're you're good. That's amazing.
SPEAKER_01No, this is a new thing. Oh, they have it's the whole thing. Did you not have to go with your daughter?
SPEAKER_02No. Just within the past two years. Maybe just recently, yeah. She wasn't she didn't get it when she was 16 and 8. She was like, maybe because she was over 18.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's probably why, because when the high school kids get it, they have it's in the auditorium. Yeah, like the sheriff talks, the mothers against drunk drivers speaks. There's a whole thing, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, she got that with the learners, but then of course, that's what kind of kept her from getting it in the first place.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, my kids were older too. Yeah, not Reagan, she was like 16 one day.
SPEAKER_02I I was 15 and eight months.
SPEAKER_01I just wanted it to be a good one.
SPEAKER_05I wanted it so quick.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_05All right, so what were your corrections from last week? What did we screw up this time?
SPEAKER_02I didn't actually have anything that was screwed. Everything was more informational. Okay. Remember you said there were only three movies that were crewing?
SPEAKER_01Oh, are there more than three? Dave, you have made my day.
SPEAKER_02There is a crap load. And these are the ones that I actually came out with. The boys in the boat was the one, and Oxford Blues were the ones we came up with. Heart of a Champion, The Novice, True Blue, backwards, The Boy in Blue, Losing Sight of Shore, Summer Storm, Dead Poets Society. Yes. Oh, yeah. I and Life of Pi. I only put that in there because he was in a boat and he rode a boat. Um, he was stranded in the boat with the book. Did you know that it was the name the tiger had the n had a name called Richard Parker?
SPEAKER_01Yes. How is that possible? I don't know, but I remember that. Why? Would someone name him? Did he name him? I mean, there is a story behind it. Okay, but I cannot remember. It's been so long.
SPEAKER_02Maybe it was a zoo thing. I don't know. Anyway, and then uh reincarnated, probably more than likely, right? Richard, Richard uh Parker. Anyway, um, and then uh we had uh Electro Woman and Dinah Girl. Uh Dinah Girl is Judy's Strangest. Oh, right. And she is now 74.

SPEAKER_02And in her lifetime, I didn't see that she was in anything of note, but she did voices for a lot of cartoon shows. Oh, okay. So she was active and she did do stuff. Yeah, yeah. There you go. Okay. So she stayed in the uh realm of uh entertaining children. Gotcha.

SPEAKER_05All right, well, my first is helping our memories in 2000. In 2003. Yes. We're into 2003, finally. We're getting there. We've been waiting for 2003 for so long. And we finally got it on the spinner. It came up, we're like, yeah, 2003. 2003. My favorite of all the years. Yes. Um, my first topic of 2003 is Wanted Dead or Alive. Now I went down.
SPEAKER_02Now I was gonna sing it and you didn't dead or alive.
SPEAKER_00Nice.
SPEAKER_02Because Joanne's here. We gotta bump up the broad the production a little.
SPEAKER_05Just a hair. Just a hair. Um anyway, so people that dead or alive that year, the people that were born that year, yes, I looked at the list, and there's probably a good 20 to 30 people on this list, and I only knew two of them and heard of one of the others. So there was just three people. So I the the biggest one for that year was Olivia Rodrigo. Oh, right. So I'm like, yeah, see, everybody knows Olivia Rodrigo. She's you know she's just on Saturday Night Live this week. And she was perfect, very timely. Yep. So she was uh the other one How do we do that? The spinner little spinner is fate of the spinner. But the spinner knows. And then the other one was Jojo Siwa.
SPEAKER_01Jojo.
SPEAKER_05So there were a lot of you don't know Jojo?
SPEAKER_01No, no. We've talked about her on the show before.
SPEAKER_02Oh my gosh. What are we talking about?
SPEAKER_01Okay, well, she was on dance moms. She was One of the girls. She was a dancer. A dancer. And then she went on to kind of, I'm gonna say like cult, but poppy cult.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01Um dancing, singing. She's got records, blah, blah, blah.
SPEAKER_02She then she became an a YouTube. YouTube sensation. So influencer type of scenario.
SPEAKER_01Currently, she's known because she was gay and she was with a girlfriend when she went on Big Brother UK for two weeks. And while she was on Big Brother UK, she fell in love with a boy. Dumped her girlfriend and has been with the boy.
SPEAKER_02I remember you talking about that. Oh, you do. I remember the hat. Because I remember the UK version. UK Big Brother, yeah. I do remember certain things, but yes, and it's a weird coincidence. This is like, why do I remember that? Pull that one out of somewhere. I'm not exactly sure. Okay, and then you had a third one?
SPEAKER_05Uh the third one was the one that I had heard of. Oh, yeah, is uh Brooke Monk. Do you know who Brooke Monk is? She's another influencer. So her her big thing is like she's this little hottie who's saving herself for marriage. And yeah, which is good. If that's her, you know, whatever her beliefs, then that's you know her thing. And so, but like her, you know, she'll like do these little dancy videos, and you know, oh, I'm cute and I'm doing my hair and all this stuff and blah blah blah and all this, you know. But I'm I'm staying a virgin until I'm married, and you know, she's like 20 something years old. That's her whole identity. That's that's her big play. It's a religious side thing to it. So I don't know, but it's kind of it's it's a little weird. But anyway, so yeah, brook month.
SPEAKER_01No religion. I just went off comments.
SPEAKER_02And then uh I know my wife's yelling at the phone. My wife's yelling at the phone right now. You've gotta be kidding me. What the hell?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, so um also that year one of the My mom listens too, by the way. Just one of the K-pop demon hunter singer girls was born that year. Oh, okay, perfect. So as far as born, that was really like I didn't know anybody because it was still not that long ago. Right. So yeah. Uh for celebrities that passed away. Now the list, when I saw this, I was like, oh my gosh, yes, of course. That was the year that Johnny Cash died.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_05Uh Bob Hope passed away, uh Catherine Hepburn, Gregory Peck, John Ritter, any bells, right? John Ritter. Uh Charles Bronson and Fred Rogers. Mr. Rogers. John Rogers. And musicians Barry White, he passed away that year. Nina Simone and Maurice Gibb from the Bee Gees passed that way that year. Uh I think that was some um hold on.
SPEAKER_02What is that?
SPEAKER_05That was my phone ringing because that was my work calling me in the middle of the podcast.
SPEAKER_02What don't they know? Okay, I'm sorry, but you need to let them know between eight and ten years.
SPEAKER_05I well, I normally turn my do not disturb on.
SPEAKER_02Oh, right, but you're using your phone or something.
SPEAKER_05Well, yeah, have notes of yeah. So oh, Robert Palmer died that year also. Oh no.
SPEAKER_01Do you remember when Falco died?
SPEAKER_05I don't remember when Falco died.
SPEAKER_01I was I just remember that the other day. I was in shock. That was like one of the first people I remember dying. And I was like, Falco, because he he like drove off a cliff accidentally or something. Oh, really? Yeah. Uh uh we'll have to figure out what year that was.

The end of the end. But one ending, uh the f number one was Lord of the Rings Return of the King. And we know how Pern loves the uh Lord of the Rings series. So my favorite. You know, they won eleven of the all 11 Academy Awards that they were nominated for. I know that was crazy.
SPEAKER_01It was like groundbreaking as a lot of things.
SPEAKER_02It made 377 million.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And um the the battle at the Black Gate, which is you won't even know what that means, but it was a big ass battle. They needed extras. They needed extras for that, and they used the New Zealand army because they filmed a lot of it in New Zealand. Oh, that's so interesting.
SPEAKER_05I thought all of it was in New Zealand.
SPEAKER_02Um, I think most of it was, some of it was soundstage, but yeah. Oh, I thought it was all New Zealand.

SPEAKER_02They named him Bruce in 19 uh 71. Was it 71? 75. 75, yeah.
SPEAKER_05When they were shooting.
SPEAKER_02Uh Pirates of the Caribbean, Curse of the Black Pearl. This is the first one of the uh uh series. Wasn't it in 2003? Yes, that was Curse of the Black Pearl. That was the first one. Um, most real pirate clothes were real and authentic, except the hats were made of rubber, and they did that so that if the hat fell off, it floated in the water.
SPEAKER_00That's a good idea. Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but even that I I don't remember the hats basically. I remember his hat.
SPEAKER_01You remember Johnny Depp's hat, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's because he had such a big thing about it, but it was always floating on the top of the water. Yeah, so yeah, they never lost it. Um, then you had this one, which was kind of weird, The Matrix Reloaded. Now, this was the second of the series. Yeah. Um, this one uh they had built an entire freeway to for that freeway change. Yeah, yeah. It was an entire loop that they made.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, close off so they could yeah, do we three miles long?
SPEAKER_02Where did they build that? In uh off of a California, yeah. It was a naval base, a decommissioned naval base. And they built the entire loop and uh they destroyed 300 cars in filming.

SPEAKER_02GM actually donated the cars.

SPEAKER_02They destroyed every single one of them.
SPEAKER_01Aren't we glad we have CGI?
SPEAKER_02Oh well, so they did do some of the CGI when she was doing the uh motorcycling because she the um moss. She actually filmed some of that uh in drive uh actually driving the motorcycle, but she had broken her leg during filming of this one and it was injured the whole time.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god.
SPEAKER_02During one of the fight scenes or something, I can't remember what that was. Uh the next one was Bruce Almighty.
SPEAKER_03That was good.
SPEAKER_02Uh you may have recognized the monkey in the alley scene that comes out of his butt. Um that was Maurice from Friends. Friends. Oh, wow. Yeah, you know, he gets around. Um, the next one was X2, which was the X-Men uh sequel. Or uh during the frozen scene in the mansion, where I guess time pauses and the quickster runs through. Don't look at MV Day. Yeah, I know. Superhero movie. Um, but um they actually used extras that were mimes so that they could hold their pose. They were miming the whole time. Yeah, so those were all extras of um Elf uh was your next one. Yeah, good one. Um did you know the Jack in the Box scene? They actually um timed it. They actually uh remote controlled the when it would open. Right. Will Farrell didn't know when that was gonna happen so he could get the uh real reaction, the horrified reaction because he never knew when it was gonna happen. Uh Terminator Three, Rise of the Machines was the last one in that series. Um Arnold was 40 was 54 to 56 when they were filming this one. He claims, and actually it's true that during the filming, his body size and his uh muscle measurements were the same when he did 12 years prior Terminator 2.

SPEAKER_02It's a whole different podcast. Uh yeah. And then the next one was the Matrix Revolution, which was the last one, uh, the third one. Two of them came out? Yeah, which was kind of weird. Uh beginning and then and they did probably did it later. But this one didn't make as much, but um, the stunts um that they did in this one, they actually tested in the what they called the uh vomit comet. It's the zero gravity plane, and they tested all of their uh fight scenes in this before they shot them. Wow. Um, and then the last one was cheaper by the dozen. Um that was this was Steve Martin and Bonnie Bonnie Hunt Hunt. Oh, yeah. Um, neither of them had kids when they filmed it at the time. Really? Yeah, and they were playing parents who have 12 kids. 12 kids at the time, so it was kind of funny.
SPEAKER_01Was that Hillary Duff? Was Hillary Duff in that? Yeah, I think she was one of the kids. Yes, that was good. I like that one.
SPEAKER_02So there's that. Um, honorable mentions, uh Kangaroo Jack, which I think was the first CGI character in a thing. Yeah, I think that was the first one. It was a main character. I don't know. I'd have to think back to that one. Go back to them real quick. Yeah, that that's gonna be a correction. Uh Final Destination 2, um, old school, uh House of a Thousand Corpses. Oh, yeah. Too fast, too Furious uh was the next one. Uh Freddie versus Jason. Yep. Kill Bill Volume 1. Um that was a good start to that one. Free Tarantina. The cat and the hat was that one. Um, and then uh uh Jiggly, Giggly is it? Oh, Jiggly. Giley with J Lo. Yeah, J Lo and uh Ben Affleck, yeah.

SPEAKER_05All right, so we while we were in the entertainment uh realm, we were gonna touch base on the Met Gala. The Met Gala was this weekend. This weekend, and I saw maybe three or four pictures. The whole was it Kylie Jenner who had the like her dress fell off, and then it was like she was wearing like a nude rap kind of thing or something. Or was that staged or so no, yes, it was.
SPEAKER_01So I saw these I saw these dresses and outfits, and I was like, this is stupid. This is the worst Matt Gala every day.
SPEAKER_02It was the theme was art, wasn't it?

SPEAKER_01So there was one lady who her dress looked like paint strokes, and you could totally tell it was this whatever from something. Um, I forget his name, but he had like on a light green suit and it had like embroidered people and guards. That was supposed to be like Monet's or Sunday in the park. Yeah, that's a nice one, right? And so Kylie Jenner, her thing was her dress was half off. It was like a gown that was half off, and then she had like a nude dress, so it looked like she was nude, but that was supposed to represent a sculpture, and if I could remember what it was, you would know it right away. Where the cloth, yes, Venus Demilo. Okay, okay, because she had the cloth is hanging down. Because she had no shampoo.

SPEAKER_01But so there's a whole bunch of stuff like that. Right. And there was one girl who had like a black dress and like this bird on her, and that was that was a pay anyway. So when I looked at this side by side, I'm like, if this is true, genius. All of these are genius.

Um who is it? Uh Annika Sorenstam became the first woman in over f in over 50 years to compete in the PGA tour uh tournament event, tour event.

SPEAKER_05Um the New Jersey Devils beat my Anaheim Ducks in the Stanley Cup. Damn them. Ducks. And that's okay. The Ducks went on to win one in 2007. That's right. Um they came back.

Yeah, just like that, but it was just called Warcraft at the time. Because the World of Warcraft was actually the um the video game. So that was World of Warcraft. Um, but then there was one called Coloretto. Now, this was a card game, and your game you were to collect sets of colored chameleons. And I was just like, oh, interesting. So like Uno. Or phase four. You know, it's just like, oh, like any other card game. Okay, perfect. But it was chameleons, which did the same thing again. And then the only thing I could find that was interesting for outside play was the plasma car. Now, I don't remember I didn't have little little kids at that. I mean, I mean I didn't I did, but we didn't really get anything like this for her. Um, it was basically you sat on it and you rode it, but in order to move, you just wiggled the the steering wheel, and the front wheels would make it move using electrical force or whatever that's called. Um, but it was called the plasma car. Um I do not remember that. It did not have any power source, but that's what they did. All of a sudden these things were just popping up in like um uh I guess B grade amusement parks. And then they would just be in like little areas and they would have the kids just be on them and they would move around. So yeah, interesting. But yeah, uh it was a yeah, there we go. There we go. SPEAKER_02Of a taco that would not be. Anything from Taco Bell. There you go. Okay. Um okay, so uh first set, here we go. The Lengua. It is a beef tongue taco. Oh, see, this is not fair because she can't play because she's down in Texas. She's probably seen all of these. That's not fair. Uh the cabeza, which is tender meat from the cow's head, or the a caco drio, which is a crocodile tail taco.
SPEAKER_00The crocodile is in crazy. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, I should have picked something else. I should have gone with enchiladas. No. Um, okay, so the next set the chicarone, which is a crispy fried pork skin, the barocco, which is donkey meat, or the tripos, which is beef intestines.

SPEAKER_02Yeah. God damn it. It is two. See, this isn't fair.
SPEAKER_01But I also watched the whole Netflix series on tacos. How in the hell? That is a thing. There's like 18 episodes. We watched all of that.
SPEAKER_05Oh, by the way, we needed to talk about some uh 90-day fiance. Oh Jesus, I heard some of those. Oh, okay. Finish the two or one fake.
SPEAKER_02Last one, last one, which of course you're gonna get the nopales, which is cactus paddles and mushrooms, the vampiros, which is a crispy taco topped with cheese and various meats, or the serpiente, which is a snake-filled flour tortilla. Whichever one Joanne picks.

SPEAKER_05I finished season seven of 90 Day Fiance and watched the the tell all two episodes or whatever that was afterwards. My biggest issue and problem with the show is the coming up on after the break, and they show like minute and two-minute segments and of the whole of what's going to coming up, and I'm just like, am I watching entertainment tonight or am I watching a fucking reality show?
SPEAKER_01Like admittedly, the producing is not the best.
SPEAKER_05Okay, and but this is my other issue with those little coming up next and that clip they show, they edit it so out of context that when you actually see the full clip, it's not that's not what they said. But it's a surprise. They're trying to trick you. It's baiting you in because it's it's on a show that shows commercials, but I'm watching it streaming now without commercials, so they want you to come back after the break and see you know, so-and-so yell at so-and-so and call them a cockhead or something. I see no problem. And then and then they come back to it and they come back to it, and then they'll be yelling at each other, and then like the the woman will turn to the dog and call the dog cockhead or something, and not towards the other person. And they're like, wait, that's not what yeah, very disappointing. I hate that. Because you want them calling a person a cockhead. I hate that. Okay, hold on, hold on. Hold on. So I finished I finished season seven. I finished season six season seven, and then I was like, well, what season will do I watch next? Yeah. And uh everybody says season four is the most season. No, Michael and Angela were in season seven.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but they got married. You have to go back to four when they got together. Actually, it's the other way. Anyway, yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_05Anyway, seasons three, four, and five are not streaming on HBO Max. But seasons one, two, and six through what are all there. But why is that? There's three seasons missing and it's not on HBO Max. The only way that I can watch it is if I buy it on Amazon Prime for $20 for the season.
SPEAKER_01Not even if you have Amazon Prime Video, it's not on Prime Video.
SPEAKER_05Well, I mean, you can buy it on Amazon Prime or Apple TV or wherever you buy your shows, but it's I'm like, I'm not spending 20 bucks on the show.

SPEAKER_05So it has to be a sponsor thing. Okay, so speaking of recap, recap, so I then went to season 11, which was the most the most recent season, and I only watched, because I was so frustrated with the way the show was edited together, I only watched the tell all episodes, and because I figured by watching the tell all episode, I'm gonna get to see, oh, thank you. I'm gonna get to see all the big stuff that happened.

SPEAKER_05And I don't have to sit through an hour half episodes. So I watched the tell all, and of course they've now changed the way they're editing, but then they had the one scene where like the the guy who's with uh the guy that was Douglas that transitioned to Aliyah. I have not watched you haven't watched the new season?
SPEAKER_01Oh no.
SPEAKER_05Then why am I even talking?
SPEAKER_01Eat my garlic butternut mix from Trader Joe's butternuts. What do you think? Those are pretty good.
SPEAKER_02I love a garlic anything, so that's pretty good. What did I just eat? Because it felt like it was super crunchy. I thought those were cashews.
SPEAKER_01And three different kinds of nuts.
SPEAKER_02I could have sworn that I grabbed the cashews, but they were the crunchiest things I've ever eaten.
SPEAKER_01I wonder what it is. Purnell just had it. I just heard it crunch. Yeah, it's a cashew.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I had a cashew and then I had one of those little bread sticks that's in there. Yeah, a little bread guy. Okay. It's like a little miniature local bread that went stale. Yeah, I love me some garlic. These are good. You want some more?

SPEAKER_01These are my favorite potato chips. Garlic butter Irish potato chips.

SPEAKER_05It's pretty good. And it's smooth, so it starts crunchy, but then the smoothness of the oh wow, that's interesting. Yeah, right.
