Are you a Left Shark or a Right Shark? Yup! It's 2015! Katy Perry did the Super Bowl Halftime show, we were making new Icons, Popping the Culture, Watching a lot of TV, the Music was pumping, People died and stuff happened in Sports. Have we hooked you in yet???
2015. All right, the Artemis II. Yes. So we launched a rocket with people on it. Yes. To go around the moon, which we haven't done in like 50 years.
SPEAKER_05Not to the moon.
SPEAKER_01Around the moon. Around the moon.
SPEAKER_04Around the mouse. Right, not to the moon. But they went so far past the moon that they set a record. Really? Yeah. When they orbit. So what happened was the the last time we went, uh, and they orbited, uh, they were so close that everything outside their window was just, you know, so close to the moon. So what happened is that this orbit was further out, which then made a record because their orbit extended further past that. So they were getting really good pictures of the moon because they were so far away. And and we spent how many billions on this? Who knows?
SPEAKER_05Less than a bill.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Less than you think?

SPEAKER_01I don't I didn't understand twice. Did you guys see? Did I send you the video of the kid? The kid that was on CNN? Yes. Oh my god. That is the energy we need.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god, that was awesome.
SPEAKER_04I remember the space program when we were growing up. So that was kind of cool.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05That was so cool.
SPEAKER_01That was yeah, hysterical.
SPEAKER_04You'd be putting apartments out there. Right?
SPEAKER_01Before you know it's too bad. Before you know it. Oh my gosh. So if you you're a regular listener, this next thing is something that we've talked about a couple times. And you know, we joked during, you know, when the Powerball and the Mega Millions are up to like, you know, a billion dollars and stuff that if we win, things that we would do with the money, or what would we invest in? And we had been discussing, Joanne said that there's a theater in her town that is for sale and it's and it's empty. So we joked, I think, even last week, we said, hey, you're you're a real estate agent. Can't you you know get the put down the money, get some buyers, yeah, or and look up the list of the stuff.
SPEAKER_041.3 million. So amazing.
SPEAKER_05So well that was the that was the assessed value.
SPEAKER_01Right. So that's 300,000?
SPEAKER_05No, no. 1.3 million. 1.3 million.
SPEAKER_01Oh, 1.3 million. Yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_04That was the assessed. That's the assessed value. That's not true.
SPEAKER_05Dave did a deep dive.
SPEAKER_04Oh, this thing looks like that.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so I I looked, I looked at the picture. I looked at the pictures of like the blueprint layout. So it's a it's like a theater for like acting. It's not a movie theater.
SPEAKER_04Okay, there are okay, so there's an amphitheater outside, and there's a four theater in the building. Oh.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the building has four theaters and and uh it's basically something that says you know, general mission seating or something. Yeah, and that's the outside amphitheater.
SPEAKER_04But the amphitheater itself looks so bizarre. Like I can understand the open seating in the middle, but then the VIPs were like off to the side and far back away from it.
SPEAKER_05Think of it if it were a rodeo. Not another.

SPEAKER_01Did you have rodeos and amplitheaters?
SPEAKER_05I'm not sure, but I'm trying to think of it.
SPEAKER_04But you know, it's right next to a racetrack. So it's kind of a bizarre scenario. It is a little bit of a and then there's a house on the opposite side.
SPEAKER_05We don't have a racetrack here. It's a horse track. Oh, the horse track. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's a horse track.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Okay. So well, I had been I I thought we were talking like, you know, an eight-theater multiplex movie theater. That's what I always think is. And then when I saw the thing, when you sent the link, and I'm like, what? This isn't what I thought we were talking about.
SPEAKER_04Well, the good thing is it would be a nice complex for like an overall have bands play outside uh at night night and then have the theaters stop at six or seven because once it's it's loud outside, you're not gonna be able to watch theater movies. But um, yeah, I mean, I would almost see it being like an art house or anything, something like that. But it needs to be good. It looks a little bit dirty.
SPEAKER_01I didn't I didn't get to um scroll down to the pictures of the actual what it looks like now, so I gotta go back and check those out. Yeah, it's a little bit in the market for a theater. If you're in the market for a theater, a fine arts, music, and arts theater, not necessarily movie theater. Yeah, one of those uh artsy fartsy.
SPEAKER_05No, we've got those. We've got one of those down the street from this one. We have actually theater.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you had to get it.
SPEAKER_05This is a legit movie theater.
SPEAKER_01Much better than the old public pizza guy.

SPEAKER_05They are, you know, trying to sell it as it could be a movie theater or a winery or a docking theater.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I was thinking like one of those uh distillery type places that sells its own liquor and then has opened. So many of them like that. Yeah, but Jesus, you should be around here for God's sake. You can't throw a rock without hitting a winery on here.
SPEAKER_05We are wine country, Texas. We have something like 200 wineries.
SPEAKER_04Oh, it's crazy.
SPEAKER_05It's crazy. It's it's I I would say it might be bigger than stupid.
SPEAKER_04Yes. I don't know how to make a money. I I don't know how we're drinking this much. I well, I say that.
SPEAKER_05We aren't. Did you hear about that?
SPEAKER_04The alcohol drop off. No, it's an alcoholic.
SPEAKER_01The younger guys aren't drinking anymore. Yeah, the next generation's not drinking.
SPEAKER_04Well, they're not drinking. Well, they see what happens as their parents are drinking.
SPEAKER_05Well, they just need to live some more life. Well, that's true. Yeah. Soon the alcohol is a good thing. Get a mortgage, for God's sake.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. They have still haven't moved out of our houses yet. Once they do that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's all downhill from dinner and start drinking. That's when the drinking starts. Right. Exactly. All right, Dave, do you have corrections? Oh, I do. From last week. Um, so we were talking about um CERN. Oh, yeah. You mentioned CERN. The World Weber. It's the European Organization for Nuclear Research. Oh. And it houses that large hadron collider, which of course was in the news because people thought it was going to end the world. Uh what was happening is that it was colliding atoms at high speeds, and they thought it would create micro black holes. And that black hole would then just annihilate the earth and everything inside the universe. Okay. Just kind of be a mini black holes. It hasn't yet, but I can't say it couldn't. And scientists say it's very difficult to make it happen. When I was the research, I was looking at. Okay. Yeah. All right. Um, the Hubble telescope. Um, the space shuttle put the telescope in orbit on April 24th, 1990. And the first images of the blurry galaxies, the first ones that came through, were taken on May. So that is 1990. Yeah, not that long ago. Like it wasn't, but it did take a while for the images to come through and then come down.
SPEAKER_01It wasn't like a year or something.
SPEAKER_04No, it wasn't like that kind of a turnaround. Um, and they uh they also had five separate missions to service the mirror sensors and the gyros inside the actual was always breaking down, and it was always a joke that it was breaking. But my gyros. Now it's just steady and just returning pictures left and right.
SPEAKER_05So amazing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Still. And our last one, uh Die Hard 2, which we always have to bring up. Um they filmed that at the airport scenes were done at multiple different airports. The first one was the Stapleton Airport in Colorado, um, Allens Airport in Michigan, and the Tom Bradley International Terminal in LAX.
SPEAKER_05Still not at Dallas.
SPEAKER_04No, no, no.
SPEAKER_05No.
SPEAKER_04And some of those were some of those areas were um off from the actual airports. Like the actual airport itself was available, but they're not like big ones except LAX, but the LAX was at the international terminal. So it's even apart from the main thoroughfare.
SPEAKER_01Well, when they originally wrote it, they may have had that it was just in the script that it was Dulles, and that was the idea. And then Dulles said, no, you're not gonna shoot here.
SPEAKER_04You're not gonna do that.
SPEAKER_01No, we can't do that. Who knows? That's something we can look into.
SPEAKER_04It could have been anywhere, though. He could have flown into anywhere and done and done that. It could have been Chicago, for goodness sakes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. That would explain the actual snow at Christmas. Because we never have snow at Christmas in DC. Very true. But not like that was. Not like a blizzard like they were getting. Good Lord, no. Gotcha. Oh, all right. Are we ready to jump into 2015? 2015. I am ready for this. I'm excited. 2015. Yeah, I'm trying to remember some of these things. Had icons. Yes. Now, I went and looked up icons of 2015 because I I honestly think that that's still too recent to be calling something iconic. Oh, I don't know. That's 11 years ago? Yeah, it was 11 years ago. And how long has Taylor Swift been in the news? I mean, well, she leads this pack. So iconic. So yeah, so she she led with uh because that was the year her 1989 record came out. And so her her songs totally were all over the radio. Everything she was at like, you know, yeah, on Cloud Nine, and they were they were saying that's what really pushed her to iconic status was when that record came out. Because she was already she was already established with what, like five records at that point or something like that. But that was but it was yeah, but 1989 was the crossover in from country to pop for her and the full crossover because she was still doing some poppy country stuff on what the red record? Was that the record right before that? Joanne?
SPEAKER_05Miss Taylor's one before, gosh, I'm so bad.
SPEAKER_01I'm glad you didn't ask me because I I don't know. Was it the Red album?
SPEAKER_05Yes, I believe so. All right, cool.
SPEAKER_01Hey, I got at the order. Yeah, but so she she pretty much crushed it because you know, she don't 1989 dominated the whole pop culture. Like people were like making starting to make t-shirts with phrases, you know, from her songs and stuff.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, so it was it is Travis's favorite album.
SPEAKER_01It's my favorite album too.
SPEAKER_05I love 1989.
SPEAKER_01And and not Taylor's version. I don't like Taylor's version, I like the original version.
SPEAKER_05She has some um good from the vault tracks on that.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I haven't listened to the vault tracks. So but I the original 1989 record uh I loved. Yeah. And even when it came out, I loved it. And you know, that's not like a recent thing instead of like, oh also that year big and um now again calling these icons. I I think the word icon is getting so overused right now. Oh my god, instead of just saying, oh, that's great, they're like, oh, iconic. And I'm like, no, it's not, it's just I mean, I love iconic. I love perspective, right? I mean, come on.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I think calling people icons is overused, but I love iconic as uh an adjective.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_05Do you know that people have a problem with awesome? Really?
SPEAKER_00What of what problem? What's wrong with that? I text that's 80s. That's 80s.
SPEAKER_05No, they're saying if something if you are in awe of something, it's like God has appeared before you.
SPEAKER_04Oh, for goodness sake. That's going on.
SPEAKER_05I am in awe. I'm like some no, yeah, no. I'm some, I'm some of sort of in awe.
SPEAKER_04You're awesome. Sort of in awe. You're some of that awe. Some I don't see.
SPEAKER_01Anyway, so there were living that back to back to our icons then. Um so Drake was a huge, he had a huge thing with hotline bling. I don't I don't know if I I don't know hotline bling. Maybe could I sing it?
SPEAKER_05Oh, hold on. Let me look up the lyrics because I know it.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, let's keep it clean.
SPEAKER_05Your mom would be like, call me on my cell phone.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, that's it. Okay.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I don't I still don't know. Oh, I will. But that'll be I'll listen before next week. I'll pull it up. That'll be our correction. Again, I wouldn't uh like Drake is huge. I mean, he's like what the him and Jay-Z are the top two highest paid rappers. Sure. Yeah, I think it's just like I don't know, but I still don't I I when I think of Drake, I think of, you know, him on Canadian TV as a kid doing that's right.
SPEAKER_05I always forget that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that he drew up grew up on a on a teen uh soap opera.
SPEAKER_06Yes.
SPEAKER_01Um anyway, Adele. So she had a massive comeback with her uh record breaking album 25, which she recorded when she was 25, which is why she called it 25. Wow. Um yeah, I know it's quite a stretch.
SPEAKER_02Right, yeah, little.
SPEAKER_01But that yeah, that was a huge because it had been she took a break from music for like five years or something, didn't she? Because her work before that was 21.
SPEAKER_0521, yeah.
SPEAKER_01And then went to 25. And so, I mean, she took, or maybe it was like, yeah, like she was 21 when she did 20 yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05I think that's when she had her baby. Is that when she had her baby?
SPEAKER_01Um I don't know. I didn't forget to see no. It just said that that's you know, when the the baby came soon after the album coming out. I remember that.
SPEAKER_05Oh, okay. Maybe it was.
SPEAKER_01It was in that time frame. So maybe she was pregnant while she was recording. Yeah, maybe she didn't have much to do. But Adele, I I I think she qualifies as iconic.
SPEAKER_05Oh, yes, absolutely.
SPEAKER_01Uh next was Lady Gaga. Right. Lady Gaga received the first contemporary icon award at the Songwriter's Hall of Fame.
SPEAKER_04So defined to be an icon. So that's the same.
SPEAKER_01So she's she's got the stamp she's an icon. Period. Yeah, I'm sorry, but it's documented. Period.
SPEAKER_04Yes.
SPEAKER_01It's over. She's an icon. Not discussable.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_01Yes. She had that from Songwriters Hall of Fame, yeah. Someone wrote that and she's framed that somewhere, like a YouTube uh icon. Lady Gaga. Uh Rihanna um stole the show at the 2015 Met Gala. Ummitting her status as a top style icon. I don't remember what Rihanna wore that year. I can't. I the Met Gala's, I I just think it's all whatever in here. It is. It's a little over.
SPEAKER_05Um I have thoughts about the Met Gala. I don't know if we want to dive into it or if we'd like to do that when it comes around again. You brought it, sure. We'll bring them up. Let's talk about it. It's gonna be leave the listeners hanging. Don't dangle the carrot.
SPEAKER_04It's we gotta talk about it.
SPEAKER_05It's gonna be here in May.
SPEAKER_01Okay, Met Gala. What are your feelings on the Met Gala?
SPEAKER_05Yeah. So you know they have they have a theme.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_05And then they have I forget what it's called, something else. There's like an overall theme and then like a lower theme or something. I forget.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, like I remember with the white one when there was everything.
SPEAKER_05And so some people really get into it and they're they're really literal and they adhere to the theme.
SPEAKER_04Yes.
SPEAKER_05And that's great, and I think that's what it's about. And some people ignore it altogether.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_05And I'm like, if you're invited to the Met Gala, you need to play by the rules.
SPEAKER_04Right? Absolutely. Yeah. And like I think a lot of it is that kind of uh centering on style uh anyway, and and that is what draws people attention. And if you're not gonna play the game, then why bother?
SPEAKER_05Like, okay, here's like last year the event theme was super fine, tailoring black style. Okay. So it was for the black uh fashion designers, style icons, all this stuff to dress, you know, like in in their styles. Can I tell you how many people just wore black?
SPEAKER_04All of them. I would say a lot of them. It's very slimming, I hear. And I was like, very slimming.
SPEAKER_05And I yeah, I just I had a lot of issues with it. Not like I'm just a huge fashion person.
SPEAKER_04It's hard to follow that kind of a theme, though. Like I can understand if you're dressing up as horror movies. You know, it's kind of the theme itself is a little bit restrictive. And then how do you make a decision? Like there's a lot of style out there.
SPEAKER_05So it it had a characteristic of black dandyism. So black dandyism was like the waistcoats and the big hats. Um and it was like in the 18th century. And so it it was it was a thing. Like you totally could have done that. You know, like the the big lapels, very sharp dressed. Anyway, I thought it could have I thought people people could could have better.
SPEAKER_01Right. They failed. They failed. They failed. That gala failed miserably.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, they just wore black. I'm like, no, no, that's not that's not it.
SPEAKER_04Well that's that same kind of thing and they go to the misspers and all of the award shows. They have that same type of if they tried to be avant-garde or break the mold or whatever. And some misses Lady Gaga with the meat dress. The meat dress, exactly. Iconic and Trey and Matt. Dressing up as J-Lo and perfect style.
SPEAKER_05If there's a theme though, go with the theme. True. Yeah. True.
SPEAKER_04But there should be if they're gonna create a theme, they should create the guidelines then. And if they're gonna do that, oh, they do. They do. I didn't know that it was set in stone.
SPEAKER_05So yeah, it's a whole thing. Interesting. So for this year, the dress code is fashion is art.
SPEAKER_04Oh wow. So dress up the code.
SPEAKER_05Your co-chairs are Beyonce, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintor.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_05Who's the thing?
SPEAKER_04Are they approving the outfits? Do you have to send in your outfit? No, but how do they go until they show up? That's the thing. That's just it. Right.
SPEAKER_05Dress code is fashion, is art. This encourages guests to view the body as a blank canvas. Oh Lord. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Allowing for artistic. I know what I'm gonna wear. I'm gonna dress up as a tomato.
SPEAKER_05So what they do is they have like the matte hat.
SPEAKER_04Burrito. A burrito would be good. Style. Oh, wait, you already did that. Stylish burrito. I don't want to wear the same thing. Yeah, you don't want to repeat.
SPEAKER_05You can't. You can't repeat. I've got to be able to do that. You'll get slammed. I gotta go. You'll get slammed.

SPEAKER_01Okay, other quick icons or what they defined as icons for the year in film and entertainment. Jennifer Lawrence, uh named the highest paid actress of 2015 by Forbes and the end of the year. I remember she was. And she was on track. Like she won an Oscar super young and was on this track, but like what has she done in the past five to ten years? I mean Well, she's done some independent stuff. And but uh nothing like on a rocket, you know.
SPEAKER_04Well, she was just in that one with Chris Pratt. Was she that one? Was that the 2015? He woke her up from sleep in space, and they were whatever. I can't remember the name of the freaking movie.
SPEAKER_05A great movie. Great movie.
SPEAKER_01I haven't seen it. It's a pretty talking about. But that was yeah, that was that was her. Was that last 2015? I don't know. It just seems like I don't know. She was on course and then like things kind of fell off with it. Right.
SPEAKER_04Well, she's not doing uh like Jurassic Park numbers with the movies that are coming out, but yeah.
SPEAKER_01I mean gotcha.
SPEAKER_04Also, um success.
SPEAKER_01So Tom Hardy. Yeah, oh yeah, still the he is the one actor. He's the one actor that like literally I can never place his face legitimately. Like his face is so forgettable. Sorry, Tom. I he did like this, you know, all these movies, and it's like, oh, Tom Hardy, oh, he's in Venom, and he's Venom. That's the only one I can ever. He was in Mad Max. Yes, and Mad Max, yeah, which is that was the year of Mad Max Fury Road came out.
SPEAKER_05Um why do I always think he has the those shirts?
SPEAKER_01Those shirts. I don't know.
SPEAKER_05Who is the guy who has like the skateboard shirts?
SPEAKER_04Tommy uh Hawk. Tony Hawk. Tony Hawk.
SPEAKER_05Not Tony Hawk. There's a there are shirts that used to be popular like in the early 2000s. I thought they were something hard hardy.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I don't know. I think that was Hurley.

SPEAKER_01H-A-R-L-E-Y, Harley. I think that was like all right well I'm moving on. So Amy Schumer shirts. I assume Amy Schumer rose to stardom and started defining the voice of comedy in 2015. So Amy Schumer was on the rise as well, too. Again, I don't know if I'd say iconic, but I mean she was on the way up and doing her thing.
SPEAKER_05Right. Yeah, I don't know if she'd be my comedy icon.

SPEAKER_05Caitlin Jenner made her debut on the cover of Vanity Fair. Lamar Odom almost died.
SPEAKER_01Yes. That was shocking. I remember that. I have that. It's more.
SPEAKER_05That was that was crazy. Almost died.
SPEAKER_01There's actually a documentary out on him right now that just came out. I think it's on Netflix. That's funny. It's about him and the whole thing.
SPEAKER_05That was crazy to me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Like, uh, yeah. Anyway. Um, do you remember the dress saga?
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_05Is it white and gold or black and totally remember that?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. 2015. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Uh we do you remember when Ariana Grande licked a bunch of donuts at the donut?
SPEAKER_00No. No, wow. This is all news.
SPEAKER_01Us girl gangs or Ariana Grande licking donuts.
SPEAKER_04This is like what is going on in the metaphor? I don't know.
SPEAKER_05I forget what happened, but she went a little cuckoo puffs and um licked a whole bunch of donuts in New York City.
SPEAKER_04Interesting. And didn't buy them. Oh, that's weird.
SPEAKER_05And I I some I think somebody said something. Let me see if I can find it. Um that's good. Oh, she she declared she hated America and started looking at the American and Donuts.
SPEAKER_01You know how we had about our donuts. I do not remember that at all. Wow.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. And then she put out a video apology, which hey, could have been one of the first apologies we got on.

SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So that that I thought was funny. Finding that hard to believe, but okay. I'm pretty sure that wasn't the first.
SPEAKER_05At the Super Bowl, we had the left shark.

SPEAKER_05Isn't it funny how we could just say left shark and everybody knows?
SPEAKER_04Oh, well, see, that's what makes it pop culture because we all know about it. Like there's a lot of people. 11 years later.
SPEAKER_05Left shark or right shark. Everybody wants to be the left shark, though. What? Oh, I don't know.
SPEAKER_04I'm right-handed, so I would almost have to be the right shark.
SPEAKER_05True, true. Our dances of 2015 were the whip and the nene.

SPEAKER_01Oh, really? I was I was in pretty quick, maybe a couple episodes just to but and then that one. Then I went after I finished it, I went back and rewatched the first couple episodes because I wanted to see his character if he was if it had grown any. And it really like out of the gate, he was that character. Like he had it dialed in and he had, you know, and it was just like a David.
SPEAKER_04And it was just once you stay with it, it's kind of yeah. Exactly. Um Mr. Robot that came out. Um this is a good one. We bear bears. Now, this was a kid's show. Don't remember it. Basically, it was so it's a cartoon show of these three bear brothers that are basically just walk around and get into mischief. Uh it's a polar bear, a panda bear, and a grizzly bear. And the weird thing is they walk on top are they? They walk around just standing on top of each other, like they're stacked, and they just walk around, like the bottom one just walks them around.

SPEAKER_04You gotta suspend reality. That's why I'm saying that. I can't, no. That's why you don't watch cartoons because the bears don't match. Always it since Bear Stein Bears, it just hasn't been. I'd love to uh thank the onthisday.com website because if they didn't have that, it'd be really difficult to find anything about freaking uh sports. It's because the sports were always just, oh yeah, there was the Stanley Cup. Oh, who won the championship? Blah blah blah. So yes, but uh we had uh the fourth string of a six-bowl uh Super Bowl win for the New England Patriots. Right. Um Chicago won their Stanley Cup against Tampa Bay. Um yeah, there was golf, tennis, cricket, soccer, boxing. I mean, it all like it was just it seemed like it was all the basic stuff. So I was trying to come up with some of the things that stood out. Uh Yankees had recorded their record uh 10,000th win as a team.
SPEAKER_01As a as a franchise.
SPEAKER_04As a team, yeah, exactly. Um Kobe Bryant retired at 36. Oh yeah. And um And what year did he die? Yeah, it was in 2018. It was five years later.
SPEAKER_05Five years.
SPEAKER_04Oh wow. Was it he was 41?
SPEAKER_05I remember.
SPEAKER_04Oh, he died like right before COVID, didn't he? In the middle of the year. Was it like February or something like that? Yeah, it was right there at the beginning.
SPEAKER_05I think I saw that come through and I said, This is a mean joke.
SPEAKER_04That was harsh, that was hard. Um then, of course, you mentioned Lamar Odom. Um Lamar. He was found unconscious at a brothel in Nevada. He was, he was didn't know how he got there. I just was there. And yeah, so that was good. Um, but that's uh so I was really looking for something that stood out.
SPEAKER_01Trying to dig a little deeper.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and then I found the a couple of the I mean, some really good ones. Um, what we're gonna call the Bullfighter of the Year award here. Okay. Um in the previous year, uh, Saul Jimenez Fortez uh gets he got gored during his uh ball bull fight in the in the leg and his pelvis. So they had to cancel the May festival associated with that because he was one of three that was gored during that festival. Oh my gosh. Yeah. So he decided the net this year, which would be 2015, that he was gonna go ahead and and just come out and return back to bullfighting. And wouldn't you know it got gored again? Got gored again in the most goriest, gory way. He took he took a horn through his neck and not into his neck, under, like under his chin, where it actually required hours of surgery, and the blow went directly under his chin, continuing through his tongue into his nasal passage, poking the underside of his skull and piercing his brain in his brain.
SPEAKER_05No joke.
SPEAKER_04I am telling you right now, that I would say that's a sign to change, change careers, right? Like the running of the bulls, too.
SPEAKER_01It's like, do we have to do that?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, why would you put yourself in that kind of I understand the adrenaline, but there's other ways. Oh, yeah. Right? Yeah, and especially with an unknown, like a bull. I mean, you get in front of a of an animal you've you've basically poked with a stick, right? And then they're just coming at you full steam, not knowing what to do. They're scared, they're terrified, they don't know where to go, they don't know what to do, and they're just traveling with the herd. So running over someone, it's not in their realm of understanding.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So yeah, there's no sympathy there. Um, but he is he was looking ahead for his uh return uh to the ring in 2016. So uh even though he had to take two years from his surgery to get uh to recover from yes, yes. So there was that print tasting bullshit.
SPEAKER_05It's gotta be the most they they must have the most injuries, right?
SPEAKER_04I would say you wouldn't have you would be able to buy insurance as a bullfighter.
SPEAKER_05I'm guessing not.
SPEAKER_04Right? I mean, you're really kind of putting yourself in front of a train, basically. Um and then finally, uh, we have one uh Bhutan uh used to be the worst uh soccer team. And by record, uh how bad would you say? Well, they were dead last in the 209 ranking uh FIFA teams. They were 209 of 209 teams. So this year though, they had never won a World Qualifying Cup uh uh I'm sorry, a World Cup qualifier, right? Until um until this game against Sri Lanka, where they played ranked 174 Sri Lankan team uh in a two-legged uh it's basically a two-team or two-game uh I guess playoff kind of thing to make it in. Um they actually won uh one to nothing, which was interesting because the Sri Lankan team was just basically writing this one off. And to celebrate, they went to KFC uh near the hotel. Um they recently held the record to of a 20 to nothing loss against Kuwait, uh associated with that. Um they celebrated, and then that second leg of their team, Sri Lanka was so insistent they were gonna win. And if they had won, they would have had to have won by two point goals to make they lost actually five days later, and and Bhutan won and actually was qualified for the World Cup that year.
SPEAKER_05Amazing.
SPEAKER_04And they were dead, dead last in FIFA. Wow.
SPEAKER_05See, you never know.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, exactly. You never know.
SPEAKER_01We have uh just uh speaking of losing a lot, um, one of the adult league teams at at the rink where I work, they came into the league last season, and we play a 20-game season, and they went oh and twenty and never won a game. They lost their playoff game there, so they were then 0-21. Oh, yeah. Then they lost their first three games of this season to go 0-24, and the other night they won their first game. Oh, that must have been just a waiting off of their shoulder. Oh my god, the scorekeeper, myself, all of us were just like so happy that they won a game finally, and they were happy. I was given fist bumps to them when they were coming off the ice. Yes, yeah, fired off the confetti cannons.
SPEAKER_05Well they are they like competitive and they just couldn't win?
SPEAKER_01Um that's sad. It just, you know, when you put a group of people together that have never played together and it's it's a lower level of play, too. So they're they're still learning the game as and learning to play with each other. Right. And this I'll never seen a team go oh and twenty in a season. I've I've I've at least I've seen a team win is at one game, at least. I've never seen a team go oh and twenty.
SPEAKER_04And so the fact they went oh and twenty-four and then when you're oh and fifteen, and it's hard to come out at midnight to come at 11 and 10. It's hard to get away.
SPEAKER_05And they came back this year. Yeah, yeah. That's amazing.
SPEAKER_04Well, at least they got their four they got one out of the way there, so that's good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So that's and so they played they were in last place and they played the team that was just ahead of them, and they beat them, and then their next game is going to be the team that's just ahead of them again in the standings. And I told them, I said, All right, I said, hey, winning is contagious, keep it going. Keep it rolling. Oh, exactly.
SPEAKER_04Exactly. String it together. You can be the turnaround team. Yeah. Perfect.
SPEAKER_05Maybe we should sponsor them.

SPEAKER_01Yep. So we have an all-female team playing in a I mean our adult league is co-ed anyway, but like it's it's a male-dominated sport. Right. So to have it, and I and I'm hoping that we can this will branch out into more female teams. I would hope. And that's cool.
SPEAKER_05Are these ladies are did they always play ice hockey or did they play field hockey or they're new? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh some of them played field hockey too. So there's probably half of them are right out of our adult learn to play hockey clinic. Right. And then they knew other women and asked them if they did play, that wanted to play, and then they had friends that they asked. And so they have got four or five that played in college women's hockey and are actually pretty good. And then, but then the other ones are still learning the game. And yeah, like I said, they're right out of our learn to play hockey clinic. And it's their first time skating. So, but it's awesome, yeah. So the flying V's. And they're on Instagram. You can follow them. Well, they've skated, they skate Wow. There's no beginner skaters. They like even the ones that have just learned how to play hockey. They yeah, they already kind of knew how to skate roughly. Okay. So they're not, they're not like, yeah, total beginner skaters.
SPEAKER_05Maybe I'll tell my child about this. Nice.

SPEAKER_05So she used to play field hockey, you know. Oh, well, that would work.

Now I think we mentioned this early on. I do. I think it was a two-to-one fake kind of thing we had. I was mentioning some of the sports that were out there. Um like you make a move and then you No, it's it's about of you play, you fight a ring, like a you fight around, and then you sit down and play a whole game of chess, and then you get back into the ring and you fight again, and then you sit down and play a whole I can't believe that this is something even watchable. I would always have to say. I you're sweating and fighting and dripping and doing whatever, and then you sit down and start chessing.
SPEAKER_05That's so bizarre.
SPEAKER_04Whoever thinks of that who combines what? You know, you never know. Yeah. And including that. Uh wife carrying uh started in 2015. Oh, I do remember Z. These are basically where the men and or the woman, I guess, could carry the man. Right. So basically on your back. Uh and they're like an obstacle course. Yes, yes. And there's like mud pits and all this other stuff. And yeah, there's a whole thing. Was that televised? I believe it's a weather. Yes. ESPN8. Um, this one's a weird one. I'd never heard of this one before. A cycle ball. So think bikes with soccer.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_04And it always reminded me that this might be like Rocket League, like the car, you know, the video game where the cars are knocking the ball around. I would have to say this is almost what that is. Right? I would almost think.
SPEAKER_05Isn't that kind of like polo?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, well, uh with cars. I don't think you'd do sticks. I just think they were kind of just oh, you just kind of kick it around? Yeah, I think so. Yeah. I haven't seen any videos on this one, so this is all new. That's a new one. We'll have to look that one up. Um, Zorbing. Um, do you remember those inflatable balls, yes? And you just kind of get in it and ride down a hill.
SPEAKER_01Roll down a hill, but then you can like roll into other people and bounce around.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, no, I've seen it where you actually wear them like as like suits and run around and play soccer. I've seen that one.
SPEAKER_01They've done that on the ice at intermission during caps games. Yes, so they'll be in their street shoes on the ice and then bouncing off each other.
SPEAKER_04Just bouncing around and knocking things around. I loved that. It was so I would do that. It was so cool.
SPEAKER_01Um no, you'll just shoot for a car. I don't need to come back to that.
SPEAKER_04When we were in high school, it was the first hockey game. Right. One of the first games I'd ever been.
SPEAKER_01We've got picked to go down on the ice. I do not know how. And I don't either. And shoot for the car, where they put like a board up over the net and it has one little like a puck size. You could put the puck in the net too.
SPEAKER_04I had never been, I'd never held a stick. I'd never hit a puck.
SPEAKER_01I was so shocked. So I wasn't even close. He was not even close to the city.
SPEAKER_04And I didn't even get a constellation anything. Like I didn't even get to keep the phone.
SPEAKER_01Get off the ice, you wasted. You didn't even hit the board.
SPEAKER_04There was nothing. Like, what the way you had me down here. I mean, anyway. And we were so I had to walk all the way back up to Rosie because we were you always got the Rosie. 220 Rosie. Rosie, and it was like the walk of shame. I had to walk all the way back up from the ice all the way back up. Yes. Um, and then uh cheese rolling. Do you remember this? I've seen the wheels of cheese down the hill. They just roll. Is it like in Germany or is it England? I think it's England. I think you're right. Yeah. And these people are just flipping and flying. Oh my god, down with that.
SPEAKER_01It's like a 7% grade or something like that.
SPEAKER_04Straight down, and they just are flipping over themselves and breaking limbs, and it's just chaos. Yeah. And then the last one I have here is walking soccer. Okay. And it's what you think. Basically, you can't run. There's no running a little bit.
SPEAKER_06Oh.
SPEAKER_04And I if they couldn't make soccer more boring than than that, I think that just slows the entire game down. And I was I was thinking about this, and I remember soccer uh going to one game uh when Washington had the dips that were here. No, I don't remember that. A long time ago. It was the dips. And it was in the middle of the summer, it was so freaking hot. And uh we watched this game, and again, it's a lot of passing back and then passing up, and then passing back and then passing up. Now, I wasn't a soccer person, so I couldn't get into it, and there wasn't getting into it. Like it was so boring, right? And uh and it's not almost like it's not like it is now. Like it seems like when you watch videos of the soccer, you really only see the highlights kind of, and you don't really see the buildup, but it seems like it moves faster now than then, I guess.
