1980. Okay, guys, I'm addicted to age of attraction.
SPEAKER_00Of attraction. I started watching it.
SPEAKER_03I am so surprised. I've watched all the episodes and I'm just waiting for the finale to come out on Wednesday.
SPEAKER_01I saw the trailer and I couldn't. I just I don't know. The drama of everything like that. I can't. That's the fun of it. It is, but I just couldn't do it.
SPEAKER_00There's not quite as much drama. Well, I just can't see other things. Well, I haven't gotten to the case.
SPEAKER_01I can't stand that type of genre.
SPEAKER_03Like uh you don't you don't watch Too Hot to Handle or Love is Blue.
SPEAKER_01No, I don't do anything.
SPEAKER_03Too hot to Handle, I really like. And there was no there was no Too Hot to Handle last year. They took it a year off, and I'm like, what? So there wasn't one last summer, so hopefully we get one the spring, summer this year.
SPEAKER_00Probably because everybody knows the deal.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's hard to keep it surprised. Yeah, because they've been there six seasons in, and like, you know, they're like they lure them in as like it's a different type of reality show, and then they're like, oh nope, you can't have sex. Sorry.
SPEAKER_00They have to wear a bathing suit the whole time.
SPEAKER_03You have to be scantily clad and shirtless guys that are all working out all the time. I wonder what show this is.
SPEAKER_01So um there was an AMC show that what happened was it was uh like a fake movie set, and the four actors they had in the movie didn't know that it was a fake movie.
SPEAKER_03So that was so did you see Jury Duty? Yes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, same scenario. Jury duty.
SPEAKER_03That was the one guy in the cast and on uh on the jury that was like a normal guy and he was around surrounded by actors. Right. Including the judge and everybody in the whole thing. So they have an they have a new one out called um uh what is it? Company Retreat.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it looks so good.
SPEAKER_03I watched the first episode and I was like, eh, it was okay. But then the second episode, right out of the gate, I was dying laughing. So I was like, okay, okay. Um yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, though. Yeah, I want to watch that. Oh, really? Yeah, because they did one, it was a horror movie, and they had this woman who was uh getting attacked, and they just doused her with barrels of blood and then just kept reshooting the scene over and over again. And then of course it's she's doing it because she wants to act and be in the movie, but they were really leading it on to it. And it was just one of those things. It was pretty good. It was a pretty good show because at the end they all kind of they put the whole movie together and then showed it.
SPEAKER_03What was that one called? Was it a movie or was it a fake something?
SPEAKER_01I can't remember.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay. I haven't heard of that. Great story, Dave.
SPEAKER_01I don't want to. What channel?
SPEAKER_00Do you remember the channel?
SPEAKER_01You're lucky I remembered it. Yeah, AMC. So yeah, it was an AMC.
SPEAKER_00AMC.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I also started watching Scarpetta. Have you seen that on the phone?
SPEAKER_01Oh yes, I already watched that one. Yeah, it's pretty good.
SPEAKER_03So I'm I'm on episode six right now. Yeah, you're gonna like that. And so yeah, there's still like two or three episodes to go. So I've been watching that. I'm I've uh like The Godfather 2, I don't like the whole split story where it's like, oh, when they were younger, oh, and now when they're older, and that just I re it just seems like what you couldn't fill an hour with them as the older actors making it a crime investigation. I mean, I get the whole going back and you know, getting their backstory, but like through the entire show, it just you know, I don't know. That that kind of I mean it's not terrible. I mean, love Nicole Kidman and uh what's the guy who's dark?
SPEAKER_01I I I always see his face because he has a character acting thing.
SPEAKER_03Carnaval Carnival or something like that, a carnival or something.
SPEAKER_00Yeah Carradine?
SPEAKER_03No, David Caradine.
SPEAKER_00It's not everybody was con though. Jake Canavale.
SPEAKER_03Oh, it is okay. So I was close.
SPEAKER_00You were close. And Bobby Canavale.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, Bobby, that's what I was thinking of. So I said Robert. Yeah. Right. Okay.
SPEAKER_00There you go. Very good.
SPEAKER_01So the show I was talking about is called Film Fakers. And it was in 2004. How did I do that? David Spade produced that? Jesus. I have no clue.
SPEAKER_03It sounds like something David Spade. Does it? I don't know. I don't know. David Spade's always got silly silly things. Joanne, anything exciting for you? How's your embroidery going? Did you get any design mistaken?
SPEAKER_00Okay. I made the mistake and I joined the Facebook group for the embroidery project.
SPEAKER_03Oh, good lord. Fredericksburg, Texas.
SPEAKER_00No, of of America. No. It's for America 250.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So it's people, you know, everybody's doing it, basically. But um I suck at embroidery because I was looking at what these ladies have done and they may have experience doing it. Yeah. I mean, you can't, you gotta they it's it's intricate work.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_00It it's beautiful. I mean, and I'm just going like they gave us a set of colors, I'm using those colors, and that's like one flower is that color, right? These people are like adding highlights and I'm discouraged from my thought. Oh, I'm so this is so fun. I'm just getting into it. It is.
SPEAKER_01You shouldn't be discouraged like that.
SPEAKER_00I guess so. I mean, I figure I can always say, oh, yes, this was embroidery from the 1700s.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00That got passed down. Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01There you go. You should see some of the the crochet stuff that I just started on.
SPEAKER_00It's pretty scary. You should see some of the crochet that I think. Oh, really?
SPEAKER_03You'll never see any of the crochet that I've ever started on. None of yours? Because I don't have any.
SPEAKER_01You don't do arts and careers stuff?
SPEAKER_03Is there pottery somewhere? Again, if I had an extra hour in my day, well, maybe you will.
SPEAKER_01You might.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I might. Who knows? I'm not talking about that. I'm not talking about that. Sorry, no, we'll see.
SPEAKER_00Cut that out, I guess. I also wanted to give a shout out to Eker Barbecue in Fredericksburg, Texas. Okay. Literally the best barbecue I have had since I have been in Texas. And what's it called?
SPEAKER_02It is Eker.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Eker. It is Korean inspired. They have some, they have like um Korean ribs, kimchi. They've got like some Korean dishes.
SPEAKER_03What the hell is that? I think they're barbecue.
SPEAKER_00They're basically Korean barbecue. Like ribs. And Mark got the ribs, the dry ribs, and he was like, this is incredible because the dry ribs weren't dry. They just had like a dry rub on them.
SPEAKER_03So he said they were dry rubs.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. He was like, they are so good. And then I got brisket, but I got chopped brisket. And usually when you get that, it's like really saucy and it can be kind of hit or miss. Oh my God. It was incredible. Wow.

SPEAKER_00Right. I hardly know her. So that was the highlight of my week. Wow.
SPEAKER_03The barbecue. That works. The barbecue.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_03Cool. So Dave, what corrections did you have? I had one. Do you want to go first? Yes, let me just do a one I I said Michael B. Jordan was Michael B. Johnson. Trevor Burrus, Jr.
SPEAKER_01Oh, did I think that?
SPEAKER_03And then I said corrected it the second time I said it, but it wasn't like it's not because I realized I'd said it wrong. It wasn't until I looked at it back. It was like, oh, I said Michael B. Johnson, but he's Michael B. Johnson. We didn't even know that he's that probably slipped right through the sensors. Yeah, nobody said nobody said it's a good thing. And there was one other thing, and I can't remember what it was. So maybe you you had it.
SPEAKER_01I have this one, uh, your sports on the St. Louis Rams. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. So uh it was uh Kurt Warner and Marshall Falk were the the two that we got. Um but it turns out that uh we were thinking of uh Isaac Bruce, probably.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_01But here's the thing he had so many good wide receivers on that team that four of them came up and they were called the greatest show on turf. Uh Tori Holt was on that in that group. Uh Azizh Samir Keen. Oh, yeah. I remember a point returner. Yeah, and Ricky Poll. So you had a depth. Oh my god. You just had so many. He could just get it rid of it. And then having Marshall Falk in the backfield to just dump the pass off to. I mean, that's why they put up so many points, is they had so many good hands.
SPEAKER_03Because Falk was like a secondary receiver. Oh, yeah. I mean, they threw to him on the flat all the time.
SPEAKER_01They definitely uh yeah, put up the points. Trevor Burrus, Jr.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. When we were talking about that last week, all I could in my head, and I knew it was wrong, all I could think of was Danian Tomlinson and Antonio Gates. I'm like, no, that was the San Diego Chargers. That wasn't the Rams. That wasn't the wrong right colors, wrong team. You were close. Nice. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I have no idea what you're talking about, but that's the thing. That's all good. That's all good. Yes.

SPEAKER_03So yeah, exactly. Well, here, then to bring you around. So Jason Kelsey signed his uh one-year deal with the Chiefs.

SPEAKER_00Um so it came out just last couple weeks ago. Somebody, one of his teammates said something about him um getting married before the season started.

SPEAKER_00And so they're like, okay, well, the training camp starts in July. Usually August. So people are like, yeah, so people are working backwards and they're like, okay, say they take a two-week honeymoon. And then say the w so anyway, June 13th, the 13th, of course. People are throwing around, who knows if it's true or not. Right. Um I wouldn't be surprised if they're already married, you know? But it'll work. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But then at one point I'd heard they were going to rent out Disneyland for like $11 million or something like that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Like, we heard it was all of Vegas. They were just going to do all of Vegas.

SPEAKER_00They just rent out every single venue so no one knew where they were.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so no one could take away their date.
SPEAKER_00Or no one, no one would even know where they were having it.
SPEAKER_01True. A totally secret uh secret space.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. We rented out the the 12 most popular things. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Somewhere completely off culture that they would have no one uh coming to.
SPEAKER_03All right. So I had pop culture for 1980. 1980. So now Joanne had current events, right?
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_03So I'm sure there's going to be some crossover stuff here. Yeah. So we should, I don't know, look into that later. So for because my because the pop culture stuff is current event y stuff.

SPEAKER_03So I think that on a week when we spin that, we should re-spin so it's only one or the other. So it's either pop culture.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but some of my innovation stuff is overlapping uh uh current events, too.
SPEAKER_00How about I won't talk anything pop culture, really? I'm just gonna do like events.
SPEAKER_01No, no. Okay, so you can always highlight Oh, I had that in my that's a such a well, I'm sure everything I'm gonna say, she's gonna say that she's so okay.
SPEAKER_03So pop culture wise. Okay, I'll try to I'll try to stay away from politics and events.

SPEAKER_03It's perfect. Uh I have got like good one.

SPEAKER_03John Lennon was murdered in December of 1980. So I will I will never forget that because my mom was a huge Beatles fan. Huge, huge Beatles fan. And I remember when seeing what seeing the on the news the next day, the people that were, you know, it'd all come out with you know the candles and you know, were on the streets and all the and people just in tears. And I I remember asking my mom, like, who who was this? And she goes, he was a very important musician. And I was like, and that was and that was my kind of introduction to the Beatles, because then like I was like, Oh, he's oh, he was a Beatle. Oh, okay. And he was a you know, and yeah, from there. So I just remember my mom like in the kitchen, like in tears crying. And you know, because when yeah, found out that to John Lennon was killed.
SPEAKER_00So I remember when Elvis died, which was earlier than that, right? That was like in the 70s, yeah, but I do not remember John Lennon. And I think like my dad's mom loved Elvis, so I think that that was part of it. And he died on my other grandmother's birthday. So I think there like there was stuff going on that day that I think probably cemented it a little, yeah, a little bit more. I don't remember my parents being huge Beatles fans. Shout out, mom. You can correct me if I'm wrong.
SPEAKER_03Send an email to her mom. Yeah, exactly. I'll be texting Stevie next. Stevie send me a voice note. So um, yeah, and the reason my mom took me to like so many concerts and stuff is because when the Beatles came to America, she won she had a chance to go see them in Baltimore, which was the first show, and her mom told her no, that she couldn't go. And she goes, I'm never going to deny my children the chance that they want to go to a concert and see a live performance and a live show. And my mom so she took she, you know, took me took me to adorate me. We've seen I've seen oh my god, the concerts I've seen. So many. So from Prince multiple times to U2 multiple times, you know, the the cu Oh, it's funny. The other day on the car, the cures um just like heaven came on, and my son turns to me and goes, Dad, so I I forget, do you like the cure or are you not a cure fan? I'm like, and I just stared at him and I was like, I was like, that's like dude, that's like my number two. The cure is my number two. You after you two is the cure. They're right there at number two. And he's like, oh, okay, okay.
SPEAKER_00That is so funny. You know what show I was not allowed to go see?
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_00Live aid. I got invited to live aid. Really to go to Philadelphia? Philadelphia. I mean, granted, I was like in seventh or eighth grade, I guess.

SPEAKER_00No, no. I one of my friends who was a guy invited me to go.

SPEAKER_00Now I we were just friends. And my mom said, no.

SPEAKER_00Like it wasn't, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah. So it was like, yeah, it's not like it was just something. We weren't in a band. Some 18-year-old asked you to go to the strange uncle.
SPEAKER_00Yes, yes. Right. Yes. It was like totally above board.
SPEAKER_01Perfect, yes. There was no vans in culture.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I'm like, really? Live aid? I would have. That would have been a problem. That would have been so good.
SPEAKER_01I mean, we understand the concert stuff, but my parents really didn't. They didn't really understand it. And you can almost kind of look at it and go, it's generational. Because the concerts for us held things for us. Oh, yeah. Right? I mean, there were events. And uh, well, again, they were also only like $10 or $12. But um, they were much more expensive.
SPEAKER_03I remember when I had to pay $15 to go crazy. To go see Guns and Roses, and I was like, that's outrageous. I'm not good at it. A six throw ticket, a $15 write of paper. Are you kidding me? Holy crap.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Ugh.
SPEAKER_03Six throw on the floor. You did go. Paid $15. Of course I went. Of course you have to.
SPEAKER_01No, no, not at all. No, just you had it. Too funny. Perfect.
SPEAKER_03So other other pop culture events that happened that year, Pac-Man was released. So the Pac-Man fever. Spunkner and Garcia's Pac-Man Fever, if you pull that up on uh Amazon Music. Spunkner and Garcia. Yeah. Yeah. I have the 45 of it. I got the 45 vinyl of it. Wow. Also, the Who Shot Jr. phenomenon for Dallas. TV show Dallas. They left the cliffhanger with J.R. shot and is he dead? Is he alive? Who shot it? And it was the whole thing went all summer. Yes. Like the Who Shot JR thing all summer long. It was crazy. And it was just like, okay. And then who was it Bobby shot him? Is that who his brother was?
SPEAKER_01I thought it was the wife.
SPEAKER_03Oh, was it the wife?
SPEAKER_00Was it the wife? No idea.

SPEAKER_00And everybody, I posted on our Facebook page when Ronald Reagan came to visit us at Oakton High School. And you can see Dave.

SPEAKER_01And I was being Charlie Brown. I was being such a jerk, too. I was screaming my head off. They told us we had to, you know, show some enthusiasm, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, you sure did.
SPEAKER_01I did because the guy next to Jamie Dombrowski Jamie Dombrowski was sitting next to me. Totally lost it because he uh he knew what I was doing.
SPEAKER_00So hilarious. And I I could because of your yellow shirt, you can just throw out the whole first minute and a half, I think, right?
SPEAKER_01Just boom, right there. So right there. There you go. If you didn't know what I looked like, that's it with hair.
SPEAKER_00So we also um had the Summer Olympics in Moscow in 1980. That we boycotted. That we boycotted. We were in the middle of the hostage crisis in Iran, and it was the Iran-Ara-Iraq war. Hopefully, we won't get involved in the start that shit up again.
SPEAKER_02Here we go.
SPEAKER_00Um Mount St. Helens erupted. I'm sorry I I sound so excited about that. But do you follow Mount St. Helens on Twitter?
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_00It is hilarious. Mount St. Helens personality is to drag on all the other volcanoes and natural phenomenon that go on. Oh shit. And they all have their own individual Twitter accounts. And Mount St. Helens, incredible.

SPEAKER_00Yeah, it it was crazy. I saw I don't know if it was a documentary or like a movie.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Kind of recently about it. It was very interesting about how they how the people got out. Because I don't know that they thought it was going to be as bad as it was.
SPEAKER_01Some of them were lucky. Right. Like some of them were just they decided that that were that it was time and they left.
SPEAKER_00They were hiking on it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, a lot of them got trapped in that too. But some people just didn't want to leave. Yeah. It's like, okay, well.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, there was one guy who I think he had lived there his entire life.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_00And he didn't want to leave.
SPEAKER_01No, no, that's what happened.
SPEAKER_00But the people, like the scariest thing to me, is being involved in something like that, and you're in your car, like the people in the Palisades fire, like you're in your car trying to outrun this natural disaster.
SPEAKER_01Coming up behind you.
SPEAKER_00I mean, to me, that's just terrifying.
SPEAKER_03I can imagine.
SPEAKER_00Fire, volcano, whatever.
SPEAKER_03Like you know, like in Return of the Jedi when they're trying to fly out of the second uh Death Star and the explosion's right behind them and they uh Lando gets out just in time. Yeah, yeah. Just like that. Yeah, exactly. For sure. Terrifying. Right.
SPEAKER_00For sure. Well, I thought you would mention this, the miracle on ice.
SPEAKER_03Well, right, pop culture, but also then sports. That's a sort of thing. Oh, Dave has sports. No, I don't. No, no. But it was more because I also had CNN got launched, which is now it's news, but it's not Ted Turner. Yeah, and then Miracle on Ice, the U.S. uh defeated the Soviets in the qualifying game got them to the gold medal game, which they then ended up winning.
SPEAKER_00Right. Miracle on ice. And then we had our second miracle on ice. I mean, everything kind of ties together.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. See how this works? Yeah. That's kind of how this works. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So those are my fun current not fun. I'm sorry. That was really good.
SPEAKER_03Well, no, because Dave's got fun and games. So I'll tie it all together. Yay.
SPEAKER_00And also post. Notes were first introduced. Oh post it notes.
SPEAKER_01Crazy.

SPEAKER_01Mr. Post-it. Which was an accident. Supposedly he was inventing a glue that didn't stick as well as he wanted it to. And I'm I'm going by memory, so you can't I I'm I'm positive that this was the story was the that's what created the glue for the post-it notes, because post-it notes glue is ripped you can remove it, like take it on the thing. And when it gets hair all over it, it just doesn't stick at all. But um you know it does. I don't know why you're sticking post-it notes in your hair. Trevor Burrus, Jr. No, but I'm saying they get hair because you stick them on things and dust and particles and bugs and you know, everything that sticks to a post-it note.
SPEAKER_03Trevor Burrus, Jr.: So I always expect the Post-it note to stick the first time, but I have some knockoff post-it notes or something at work that like as soon as I stick it to it, the corner starts peeling up. It's always a calls write off. And I'm just like, why is this how does this even market it as the post-it note? It will stick to anything. Trevor Burrus, Jr.
SPEAKER_01It's probably not a 3M post-it note. It's probably like you said, a knockoff.
SPEAKER_03Knockoff post-its.
SPEAKER_01Can't do that.
SPEAKER_03Damn it. Post-notes are expensive too. True.
SPEAKER_01True. When you get the real ones, they stick to it.
SPEAKER_03That's why people steal them from office. But that's why they stick. And the real ones stick. And the real ones, exactly.
SPEAKER_00It's really bad when you don't have an office to steal things from.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you have to go and get your own. Yes, that is bad. That is bad. Actually bad. Stealing uh office supplies. But yes, that's also not a lot.
SPEAKER_00Like I I need pens. I don't need a thousand pens like they sell, you know, in bulk. Do you know what I mean? But I need more than one.
SPEAKER_01To get a lot of pens is to go to some of these uh uh job fairs and things. They're just handing out stuff. Depends what their name is. Yeah, plenty of well, you wanted pens. SPEAKER_01Fun and games. Let's move on to some fun and games. Um video games, uh, the Atari 2600. Uh Atari had big, big releases, uh, big ones in the naming, uh, Space Invaders, uh Adventure. Do you remember that one? Battling and dragon. You were basically an arrow, I think. Oh no, you were a dot and you moved an arrow around for your sword, and there were dragons running around, and you had to collect uh the uh goblet. Or something like that. Yeah. Uh Night Driver. Uh it's why I'm such a good driver now, is because I had to be night driver? Yeah, and it was always on curves. Like for some reason, Night Driver was just straight all curves.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, just turn left or right. Left or right. In the dark.
SPEAKER_01Right, right. And yeah, and then you had headlights coming at you. And then Dodge Em was another one, which um basically was Pac-Man, but in cars, I guess. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, I had Pac-Man uh on here because again, arcades were big. So a lot of the new arcade releases were there. And some innovations in that was a one called uh crazy climber. Now, I don't know if you remember this one, but it was two joysticks, and you were uh a daredevil and you climbed the wind, you climbed windows on a skyscraper, and you got points based on how high you got, and there were windows closing, people were dropping uh potted plants on you for some strange reason. I don't know why. You're just you know, you're just in a climbing your apartment, you know, just being a nice guy and climbing, and all of a sudden someone's gonna drop a potted plant on your head.
SPEAKER_03It's always the old lady. It always is.
SPEAKER_01But the innovation was the double joystick movement, so you that was kind of cool. Um Missile Command was one that came out. You mentioned Pac-Man, which again, uh it was the first release that went big. That wasn't an Atari type of one. It was Namco.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh so that was a good one. Yeah. And uh one called Berserk. It basically was you were robot, you were fighting robots off, but then the giant ball, happy face would come bouncing on you and kill you. Always fun. Uh centipede was a good one. Uh Battle Zone, which was innovative in itself because it was uh uh 3D raster graphics, basically. Did you say missile command? I did say missile command. Okay, yeah. Um the battle zone uh defender, which was one that was the uh left-right. You had to collect the uh guys from the uh ground, basically, and keep them on the ground when the invaders came and picked them up. Um Phoenix was one. I don't remember this one too much.
SPEAKER_03When was Joust? Was Joust later? Oh, yeah. Joust was a little later. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um Joust. Uh Rally X was another uh racing one, and Star Castle.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01Um we had mentioned uh innovation when um 1970s we were doing text-based games. Uh Zork One came out in the 80s, or in the eight, actually 1980, it was its first commercial release. And this was a text-based game where you had like go east, uh, move rock, those kinds of things. Um always nice because you know, you had to always use your computer uh in in uh innovative ways. Um okay. This next one was uh near and dear to my heart because I was an only child. Uh the game was Simon. Do you remember this one? It was basically a hockey puck-shaped uh ball uh ball or half ball. You have one. That is funny as hell. Vern just reached around and showed it to me.
SPEAKER_00Oh, really? That thing gave me so much anxiety.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's kind of the thing. But when you're an only child and you don't have anyone to play with, it did it did let me play a game. There you go. There is my my childhood in a nutshell. But yeah, it changed colors, it matched the pattern and tried to keep up with it. Um, the uh cabbage patch kid craze uh started. Was that 80? Wow. It was. Uh these were a massive doll fad, basically, uh, that included adoption certificates. Now, the adoption certificate, each one had a unique name, like every single one of them, and a unique date of birth. So interestingly enough, um, I think we might have a couple in the basement. Yeah, I have one in my garage. Oh my gosh, yes.
SPEAKER_00Mine was called Lowell. Lowell. Really?
SPEAKER_01I had like a three-person name, though, right?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. It was usually something hyphenated.
SPEAKER_01Weird, weird three-person Trevor Burrus.

SPEAKER_01Yeah, like yeah. Exactly.
SPEAKER_03Um that was the airwolf uh reference of the week. Yes.
SPEAKER_01Um, it's uh helper. Um we didn't just stay inside and play games. We actually had outdoor ones. Um the outdoor play was included uh capture the flag uh started around that time frame where it kind of was put together as a a game where you were basically running around, I guess, with the flag in one side and the other team was trying to capture it and move it to the other, I guess. I don't remember. I don't remember playing that one. I remember playing flashlight tag, where basically we basically flashlight tag?
SPEAKER_03Oh, flashlight tag. That's totally different than flashlight tag. Flashlight tag.
SPEAKER_01Totally different. Not when I was in the 1980s. No. Not that. No, but um I remember that because we basically ruled the night as 10-year-olds outside. Right. Um the s the just because the um uh lights came on outside did not mean we had to come in until uh late in especially in the summer. Like they didn't want to see us at all.
SPEAKER_03Well the sun was up, we'd be up until like nine o'clock in the summer.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but flashlight tag needed to be played at dark. So we had to wait until it got dark enough. And that was always dragging late at night. But yeah, so no problem. Um I don't remember it. I don't I've never played this one either, but it was called Spud. Okay. Do you remember this at all? Is anyone is it something potatoy? It is not, actually. What happens is is you take one of those wonderful dodgeballs and you throw it up in the air, and the it kid, the one that was made it, had to catch it.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I thought you were being like the most popular kid, the it kid.
SPEAKER_01No, the kid who was it, not not actually pennywise.
SPEAKER_03Jimmy Thompson's the it kid. He is so cool.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god, he is the Spud King. No. Um So what happens is you threw it up, the the person who was it, the person who had to catch the ball, caught the ball and then yelled Spud. Everyone froze, and then you got to take three large steps, the it kid, um, and then you hit the person. If you miss the person, then you were it again. Um if you hit the person, the person who was hit is then it. And then they throw it up on the person to come get it.
SPEAKER_03And then whoever wins the squid game wins one million dollars. Yes, exactly.
SPEAKER_01Um Red Light, green light, uh red rose. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Uh Ghosts in the Graveyard. Um I don't remember that one.
SPEAKER_03I knew.
SPEAKER_00That sounds familiar.
SPEAKER_03There's a ghost in the graveyard. It's like hide and seek in in the dark, basically.

SPEAKER_01I have the ball, right? I read it into the corner. I read the instructions and still are a little bit fuzzy. You draw a giant cube with four uh quadrants in it, right? Each person stands in it, so it's basically only a four-person game. And then you had to bounce the ball in your square into someone else's square.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And if you the rules were one of those red PE balls. Right, yeah. Like a dodgeball. Yeah, the ones with the marks on it, like you played with Spud, um, which made that wonderful noise when it hit you. Yeah. And so um but the rules were more so if you didn't follow the rules, you were out. Which if you didn't hit the square or you didn't follow the numbers, if you uh missed the other square. It's it was all like based on what you couldn't do, got you out. So there was no way I couldn't even figure out how to actually play it. It's more like pickleball. I can't figure those rules. Yeah, I don't actually pickleball you. There you go.

Oh, you know what I watched, what I watched this week that I've been wanting to see since it was released in December, and that is Is This Thing On? It's the Will Arnett, and he's a stand-up comedian. Bradley Cooper wrote wrote it with Will Arnett and then directed it. Um Bradley Cooper's also in it, I did which I didn't know going in. I just thought it was all about Will Arnett and his marriage falling apart with Laura Dern.
SPEAKER_02Oh. Oh, interesting.
SPEAKER_03And then it takes a turn, and I was like, oh, this isn't the movie I like the beginning was like, oh yeah, this is the movie I thought it was gonna be. Right, right. And then in the middle it twists, and I'm like, wow, this isn't the movie I thought it was going to be. And I'm actually I already liked it. Now I'm enjoying it a little more because it is a twist. But it's yeah, anyway. So is this thing on? It's now out on Hulu and Disney Plus. So I highly recommend it. It's not as depressing as you would think it was.

SPEAKER_00Buttered noodles, which that's like a kid kid staple for the kid who doesn't like anything. Right.

SPEAKER_00Yeah, also college food. And uh rice with soy sauce. I have had that many a night.

SPEAKER_01She is. We had a little discussion uh at lunch together. She does not. Don't call me. Now we're still trying to look into getting it from one of the aunts because we might have gotten it. They might have gotten copied or moved to uh an aunt, uh, but uh we do not have the original. But I do have confirmation it was a thing. Lisa did see it at some point. Okay. And I believe it was when we were doing the let's embarrass Dave and look at pictures of him very small. Right. That picture was in with all the other ones. What happened to those pictures? What do you mean?

SPEAKER_01I would agree with that. And there was a purge because there was water damage at some point. There was also uh a uh uh a moment we were we were discussing that too. I was like, it's gotta be around. Uh because Lisa did prove that she it does exist or did exist at some point. This goes the way of my uh videoing of me doing Yankee Rose at King's Dominion. Oh, okay. What is that?
SPEAKER_00I have not heard of that.
SPEAKER_01Though I went to King's Dominion with a bunch of the people from um the movie theater, and one of the side attractions is to video mouthing too.
SPEAKER_00I remember, yes. I do.
SPEAKER_01I was gonna be on the drums because I was in a drum phase, but no one knew the song, and I knew it by heart. And so I got up, but I couldn't stand in front of people, so I wore my sunglasses the whole time. And the weird thing is, is because we we were going all day, so we were sopping wet from all the rides and everything. My socks were off and they were wrapped around my knee. I remember that. And um, I remember that no one else knew the song. And so I was the only one really kind of mouth and molding, but when they started to pan into other people, they were just like gay, ga, gay, gay, gay, because they really didn't know what the song was about or how it went. But uh yeah, so there was that. But that video is just gone. I don't even remember where that where it went. It got it got passed around and then just disappeared. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Did they also have the thing like you could make an actual record? Is that hallucinating?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, you could do a song and you actually sang the song. Yeah, they draw it. Like, you know, it was like uh you burn it, cassette tape. I thought it was cassette because Dan Dan Hendrickson and I did one on the Ocean City boardwalk. We did one. And it was uh I'm remembering way far back then. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I remember you go in, you could record, and you'd get like a square record that was floppy.
SPEAKER_01I remember that was floppy. And I didn't know that they did it like that, but I don't know. Um I remember getting those of they were attached to cereal boxes. Right. And it was it was it was songs that uh you didn't want to hear in the first place, but yes, they were attached to cereal books.
SPEAKER_03You could also do them in the Sunday paper in like with the comic book section, yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's where all the wow, we're really dating ourselves now, too. It is just 1980.

SPEAKER_01Um there was such controversy about this about how it came out that um people were calling it the worst of the trilogy only because it was a cliffhanger that didn't need to be a cliffhanger. They could have just kind of put it out there and then did the next one, but there was so much about what happened at the end that didn't get answered that they had to put out the third one. So everybody was freaking out. Um but uh the information I have is that Hoth, you remember Hoth was the snowband? Um it was a mountain village in Norway that they filmed it. And uh yeah, so there was that. Um that's all I have. I I only have one.
SPEAKER_03I only I I know I go. That was the only movie worth mentioning to you. It was just the one. No, I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_01I know I go long, so I'm only forget Kramer versus Kramer. I'm only doing one fun fact about the top ten.

SPEAKER_01Uh number two is nine to five.

SPEAKER_01Uh Dolly Parton memorized the entire script.

SPEAKER_01Because she said that she assumed that you had to do that.
SPEAKER_03So she just memorized the whole thing. She memorized the whole thing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. She and she memorized all the parts that she was with other people too. Oh, wow. It's amazing. So that she knew what they would say and when to keep it. Yeah, she knew the whole thing. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Um she's a woman.
SPEAKER_01Oh, she goes, she's, yeah, she is definite. Um number three was Stir Crazy. Uh this was Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder. Yeah. Gene Wilder, Miss Gene Wilder.
SPEAKER_03Uh, Gene Wilder.
SPEAKER_01Uh there were 350 Arizona prison inmates were uh extras in this one. And um, I also read this is a fun fact. Uh one of the extras, uh, when they were pulling them all away, one of the actual extras was not a prisoner, but got pulled in because they said he looked like a prisoner. So they were hustling him over. But then one of the uh one of the producers uh realized that she was missing one of her actors. So she went back and got him out. But yeah, and they were just their their excuse was that he, yeah, you kind of look like a criminal. So yeah, uh, that's nice. Uh number four, airplane. Um one of my favorite genres. Um, I didn't know if you knew this, but Charlotte Zucker, the mother of the directors, David and Jerry, um, she makes a brief cameo putting on makeup during turbulence. She has a she has a propensity to show up in their movies all the time. Okay. She was also in a bunch of the naked gun ones. Oh, okay. Yeah, she was uh I had like a secretarian one of them, and it was a whole bunch of them. But yeah, that's that's their little tag. Uh number five. Yes, yes.
SPEAKER_00Um, they are filming Winter White, a holiday Christmas movie. I don't know if it's home right, but um in Fredericksburg, and they are looking for extras and they want townspeople. You should so I'm totally gonna do it.
SPEAKER_01And you should wear the logo in indiscriminately.
SPEAKER_00Yes, I will.
SPEAKER_01On your person. Yes, yeah, yeah, on your Christmas hat.
SPEAKER_00Maybe I could report live from there too. You never know. Totally perfect.
SPEAKER_01That would be perfect. And did they say what's the movie called again?
SPEAKER_00It's called Winter White, and it's about a Chicago-based wedding planner who puts her skills to the test when her sister decides to get married in a quaint town in Fredericksburg, Texas.
SPEAKER_01Oh, so they named your town. So I guess yeah, you kind of need that.
SPEAKER_00Yes, and the girl who wrote the girl who wrote it is from here. Oh, okay. Um, I believe she's 23. Yeah. Um, it's not a home. Very, very hard.
SPEAKER_03I mean, I I haven't seen it yet, but I'm pretty sure at the end they're gonna fall in love.
SPEAKER_00You think do you think she needs someone? A local Christmas White.
SPEAKER_01It sounded like a local, local innkeeper, right?
SPEAKER_00A local innkeeper.
SPEAKER_01It sounded like a cocaine show to me. I don't know. A cocaine show. Yes, yes. The reckoning. Yeah. Um number five was uh any which way you can. This was a Clint Eastwood one, and he starred with a giant gorilla. Or no, I'm sorry, orangutan. Um the uh Clint Eastwood would call his co-star Clyde the orangutan the most natural actor he has ever worked with. Wow.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, but he said you also had to catch him on the first take because his boredom level was very limited. Oh wow. So that's kind of fun. Yeah, do it, do it now because he ain't gonna last another one. So yes. Uh number six was Private Benjamin. This was Goldie Hahn.
SPEAKER_00That was so good. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh to prepare for that film, Goldie Hahn did actually go six weeks at boot camp. Wow. Yeah, and there's method actors. Good for her. Uh method actors, I'm telling you. Um it's like G.I. Jane. Didn't you didn't demonstrate that in G.I. Jane?
SPEAKER_03No, I thought she just shaved her head.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I think she actually did get all methods.
SPEAKER_03Right. Number seven.
SPEAKER_01Number seven was Coal Miner's daughter. This was the story of Loretta Lynn. Um she happened to be the only character in the entire movie that didn't use profanity.
SPEAKER_03Aaron Ross Powell Right. And I think she won an Oscar for it.
SPEAKER_01She did.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Cool. Um number eight was Smoking the Bandit 2, not as good as number one. Nope. But um the roller coaster that was destroyed in the movie was the old Greyhound, uh, was actually scheduled for demo, but uh because it was deemed unsafe. Gotcha. Go figure.
SPEAKER_00I don't remember a roller coaster. I do.
SPEAKER_01You do? I don't remember. But I also remember number three that Burt Reynolds wasn't in it. So number three um was just uh side shots of him in the car, not really because Burt Reynolds wasn't in it. Yeah. That's so funny. Number nine was Blue Lagoon. Do you remember this uh half risque kind of uh movie? Uh for the death scene of one of the adults, the captain I think he was the captain or the cook that survived the shipwreck with the kids. Um yeah, I I vaguely remember the movie. Um he put an actual live crab in his mouth, and on on the word action from the director, he opened his mouth and the crab crawled out on cue. Wow. That is some good advantage. Hey, pay the crab.
SPEAKER_00Back in the day, don't have the CGI stuff.
SPEAKER_01No, you had to if you wanted a crab crawling out of your mouth, it wasn't gonna be a Muppet coming out, it was gonna be a real crab. Exactly. And number 10, Blues Brothers. I would have to say this is in my top list of movies. I've had this freaking movie. I know, oh sweet mother. You haven't. Oh god. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_03Oh Jesus could you not seen the Blues Brothers?
SPEAKER_00I was um nine.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but where have you been since? But again, I don't I don't remember watching it when it came out in theaters. I think I watched it on video too. Yeah, I was on video too. Yeah, yeah. But still, we're gonna be allowed to watch that.
SPEAKER_00It was way too much stuff.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But I like it though.
SPEAKER_01It's Jake. You'll love it. It's a musical, it's brother. It's okay. It's basically watching the Saturday movie. It's like Saturday Live. It really is just one skid after another, but they all pieced it together. I liked it. The movie was good, the songs were great. Um, scenes involving James Brown, John Lee Holt Hooker, and uh Aretha Franklin were not lip-synced. They actually sang them and they cut most of them together. Aretha Franklin's where they actually cut it together so good that her lip sync was on, like dead on. So they didn't have to like sync it up. It actually was the same uh for them. It was really good. That was pretty good. Um and I have some notables here. Um, and this is a pretty long list, actually. American Gigolo, The Fog. Stop me if you just want to talk about one of these. Um The Fog, uh Mad Max. Um, The Witch The Watcher in the Woods. Uh if you do you know what that one? Watcher in the Woods. It was the Disney one. Scary Disney.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Uh I think that one had um, oh gosh, I can't remember her name.
SPEAKER_03Uh Betty Jodie Foster?
SPEAKER_01No, no, that was the Mountain one.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, return to Windows. Escape to Witch Mountain. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh Friday the 13th. Now, the funny thing about this one was this didn't have Jason in it. Friday the 13th. It was his mom. Yeah, his mom. The kid died. The kid was Jason. And the reason why she went on the killing spree is because they weren't paying attention and were having sex and their kid died. So she actually killed everybody.
SPEAKER_03It was a revenge movie.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it was a revenge movie. But at the very, very end of that one, supposedly the survivor gets drug in by Jason into the lake. But you don't see that until the second movie.
SPEAKER_03Right. The op it's the opening of the second movie.
SPEAKER_01It's the opening of the second. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um, and then uh I'm sorry, we just spoiled that one. Uh Fame, um The Shining. We mentioned The Shining a lot in ours. Uh Urban Cowboy, which was John Travolta's real start, I think. Uh Can't Stop the Music. Now, this one was Village People. YMCA, yeah. The Village People. Um, the music is another musical um uh with uh I think it was Gutenberg? Mm-hmm. Steve Gutenberg. That's correct. That's probably cool. I remember the only reason why I remember this movie is because in the middle of it they did a commercial for milk. And it was a song, and it was a really good song. So that's the only reason why I remember it.
SPEAKER_03So my friend Greg always would come over to Miles because we had HBO, and he would like whenever he'd want to know when it was on, he would wanted to come over and always watch it. His parents didn't have HBO. And then years later, when he came out as gay, I was like, oh, well, that explains all the can't stop the music. Can't stop the music. YMCA.
SPEAKER_01YMCA stuff. Okay, that explains it. Maybe it could. It could it's definitely pointing fingers. Um Herbie Goes Bananas, which was I think their third going for the fourth one. Yeah, I think you're right. Uh Chichin Chong's next movie, which was my first foray into actually seeing a Chichin Chong's movie. Um interesting. Interesting one. Um you can't do any of that now. Um and Caddyshack. Now I think I referenced Caddyshack at least once a week.
SPEAKER_00Um that was 1980. Wow.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Pretty good one. I like that one. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Yeah, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Be the ball. Um, no, no, no, no, no, no. Well, it looks good on you. Um Xanadu. Uh it was somebody step on a duck. I like that one. Um Xanadu was that one. Um again, we mentioned that one when uh that was Gene Kelly on roller skids.

SPEAKER_01Right? Um Raging Bull, uh De Niro, right? That was De Niro one. Flash Gordon. Yep. Flash. Now the good thing about that one that I remembered was the Queen soundtrack. They really weren't supposed to be the soundtrack on that one, but Queen, I guess, lobbied for it. Oh. Yeah, it was really good. And most of the script was so all over the place that they didn't know what they were doing.
SPEAKER_03Um I've actually watched that within the past 10 years and was like, what the fuck was going on?
SPEAKER_01We watched it, I know. And I watch it now. The stump scene was the one that freaked me out the most. It was the stump when he had to put his arm in. Yeah. Unseen stuff just freaks me out. Um Popeye was another one. That was uh Robin Williams. Sorry, we lost Robin Williams. The flop. Um, that was pretty bad too. Uh and Arista Cats from Disney. Yep. Cool. Yeah, here we go.
