This is our 100th episode. So we're gonna we're gonna do a couple little throwbacks, like we're gonna do a taste test in here, and we might do some trivia. And so, yeah, a little throwback to our first two seasons of uh of the podcast. Yes, and uh yeah, but we're still gonna keep the same with the year 2009, which was the year my son was born. So that was a very important year for me.

Um, so anyway, I'm very excited that we we hit the hundred episode mark because that's like a milestone. That's amazing, right? Yes, it is. Can you believe we've done this a hundred times? A hundred times. I can't think of anything I've done a hundred times. Repeatedly a hundred times.

This week I started watching a new show, and this was one of those shows that was never on my list to watch. Right. It was not anything that even piqued my interest.

And I was just like, eh, sure, what the hell? Let's watch the pilot episode because it's in its third season, and it's Tulsa King with Sylvester Stallone.

It's actually not bad. Yeah. I'm I I was because it's it's a Paramount Plus show. So there is swearing, and there is, you know, like it's not edited for TV. I mean, it's it's like a network television show, except for they with a hint more of like the HBO-ish side of a scripted show side to it. So it's like it's a good show. And I was I was shocked because Stallone is what, like 173 years old now? Correct. So I was amazed that he was still pulling off these scenes, and like there, there's one scene, I think it's in the second or third episode when he smokes a joint and gets high and has this monologue. And I'm just like, Holy shit, he can't he's he still got something in the tank. It's like, not bad, Sylvester, not bad. So anyway, so I've been enjoying Tulsa King. The only issue drawback I have is that it's on Paramount Plus, so there's commercials. So every time that you know gets to that commercial break, it's like, oh, 120 seconds of commercials, and I just I just mute the TV because I don't I don't watch all the commercials. And you can't factor it.

Yes, exactly. So I I do enjoy Tulsa King. I give it recommendation. If if you don't know what it's about, he's uh he's in the mob in New York and he goes to jail for 25 years to so the main boss guy doesn't have to take the fall, he takes the fall for it and keeps his mouth shut and serves his 25 years. And then when he 25 years for murdering two people, and which he didn't do. Well, we're we're still not he says he murdered them, but I don't know if that's him still say I don't know, whatever. I'm I'm I'm only halfway through the first season.

And I know, which never happens. And I watched uh I watched an episode of Tulsa King, and then I was like, you know what? You know what I've never ever seen, and I'm gonna watch it right now. Oh no, I made it through Sopranos. Oh my god, the Sopranos story? Hold on. Yeah. Oh geez. When I started the Sopranos, it was it was an episode in like season three, and um uh Joey Pantleone gets whacked, and I was just like, Holy shit, is every episode like this? And because it was just a random episode in the middle of season three. And then I went back and binge watched the first three seasons because the fourth season was about to be released right after Christmas, and so I was like, boom, into the Sopranos and then stuck with Sopranos the whole way. So yeah, I really because it's just that one episode I watched, I was like, What's the big hype about this? And then, like, you know, Joey Pants gets whacked, and I was just like, Holy shit, they like killed him.

So the movie that I've never ever watched in my entire life is The Godfather. Oh, meaning that Marlon Brando, yeah, exactly. And and uh uh Bobby Duval and um Al Pacino and uh James Kahn. And I had never watched it, it's always been on my list of movies to watch, but it's three hours, and you know how I feel about long movies like that. Like it's usually like a two-day event for me. I have to take a break.

I started it, it was one just before one o'clock. I was like, I'm gonna start The Godfather and I'm gonna watch it. And so I'm watching it, and I did take a break in the middle about the hour and a half mark. I took like a 15-minute intermission and you know, emptied the dishwasher, took the dogs out, you know, took took a break myself and then sat right back down and enjoyed the last hour and a half. And it was absolutely fantastic. It for me lived up to the hype of, you know, oh, this is the godfather of this movie. And it was just I I got to this point not far into it, where I was imagining like if they remade The Godfather, who of today's actors would take these roles? And the one that was just clear as day to me, playing Don Corleon, Corleone, uh, which is The Godfather, which is Marlon Brando, the person that I would easily pick to re to do a remake would be Leonardo DiCaprio.

After you know, the years of different DiCaprio movies from you know one battle after another to you know what was the what was the mob one he was in in New York, the with the rat? What was uh it was a Scorsese movie. Do you remember he was an undercover cop and he went and into the organization? I don't know. Anyway, that and you know, just the stuff that that Leo's done lately, you know, I I could totally see him pulling off what Brando pulled off as as you know, the godfather. And I was just like, oh my gosh, so I could totally see, yeah.

In that role. So so maybe there maybe one day will be a godfather in me. The great thing about it is they start off and it's um the godfather's daughter's birth, or not birthday, but it's her wedding. And so like all these people are in for the party and stuff like that. And all the shots of this this wedding reception, it looks so real. Like it doesn't look like just a bunch of background extras, you know, dancing around, stuff like that. It's it's almost like they said, No, start pouring the wine, let's get everybody going, let's have a party. And by the way, we're just gonna have some cameras out here and we're gonna be shooting some stuff. I mean, and it let people feel like just being people, and it wasn't acty, it felt very real, like I'm watching somebody's wedding.

That's cool. So, but yeah, yeah, you know, I I every once in a while think I should watch it, but then it goes back to that 70s thing that I had from last week. But I thought it's I think don't get into it.

Okay, yeah, that was on def December 4th, 2020. But um, it's it's funny you should say this because in this little write-up, the fourth installment of the Godfather movie franchise titled Godfather Part Four is rumored to be in development and an inspected release date sometimes in 2026. Oh, wow. The Coralone family uh is focusing on the new generation of Corlone family. The rumored cast includes no Sylvester Stallone and Leonardo DiCaprio.

This is a new hobby, yes, which I didn't think I could do because you know my eyes are bad, but it's at the exact right distance that I can see clearly. So it it's and it's fun. And so I'm doing an America 250 flag, which is like all these little flowers that make up the flag. And then you're supposed to either like frame it or make a quilt out of it or something. So that was my entire weekend. And I finished up a bunch of shows that I had started, so you know, all in all, great time.

Yeah, I swear to God. So again, this happened tonight. Almost nothing going on until I drive into I get into Pern's driveway. And it's raining here, so it's a dark moment. And I have a history. Don't I? I had I've fallen. Oh getting hurt? Yeah. I've fallen coming into your house on your stairs. Oh, yeah. You've tripped coming up the stairs. Yeah, I didn't lift my foot high enough and smash my knee onto the concrete, which was fun because that hurt. Um, and I've fallen at the house. I've I've broken things, I've fallen off of my front stair staircase and uh popped my knee on marble. Um, this time I decided that um getting out of my car is fun and stepped down onto a stick, and it couldn't have been any bigger than my foot. And I slid and it rolled under my foot and I pitched out of the because that was my plant foot. So I came right out of the car, bounced off of my running board and landed on the ground. So yeah, yeah, yeah, fun. I've now I now am uh a fall risk. Lisa said, Why didn't you just keep your little yellow band that said fall risk and just wear that all the time because well no one was there to help me, so it wouldn't have mattered either way. But yeah, I and I it would have been like nine o'clock. I'm like, where the fuck is Dave? It would have been 8 20 and you would have been texting where the hell is god damn it. Your dogs are wanting their treats. Where the hell are you? And I'd have just been looking out. In the dark raining as it was pouring down rain too when I was coming in. So yeah.

But in 2009, it still made 283 million.

Well, yeah, and because Harry Potter was well that year, in this year in 2009, Harry Potter Half-Blooded Prince came out. Right. And that was number two, and that came out in July. Right. They were on that cycle before one was in the summer, one was in the December, then the next year was in the summer, the next one was in December. Exactly. So they they were on that cycle, and this was the summer one. Oh uh the number three animated movie, anyone? Animated. Oh. Animated Pixar. No. Oh no. Pixar.

And I think it's yeah, the top-grossing comedy of all time. Worth it. At least our rated comedy of all time. So yeah, the hangover first one was hysterical.

Uh then we had the Star Trek, the JJ Abrams uh reboot of the franchise, which I thought was fantastic because JJ Abrams had already done Star Wars, uh Force Awakens, and then he jumped shipped to the Star Trek universe, and everybody was like, there's like a tear in the space-time continual now because you can't have a director go from Star Wars to Star Trek. Right.

So they actually had the individual program of Aries, but they were splitting out the travel so that they could actually send people to the space station on the Aries one without having to do an entire huge rocket like an Aries five each time. Okay. So they split it out. It was a kind of a thinking man's kind of uh program. Um now this is gonna be weird, but I'm gonna say it. Teleportation in 2009. Okay. Now this was Wait, how did I miss that? This was more of a scientific uh accomplishment where it was the theory of teleportation of um between atoms. So basically um maybe not the same teleportation that you were thinking of, uh like the Star Trek version, but um, this was a successful lab-generated atomic level information transfer between two separate atoms. Wow. So, but that was that is the basis for actual teleportation because once we can move something from one place to another without anything in between. Teleporting, then it it becomes, then we could start moving matter. But then it brings up that question of if we have one set of atoms transferred to another set of atoms, are we that same person in teleporting? Which was the whole thing about standards.

They actually made the face like human, like human face, but they stuck with a maga, a magma, maga, manga, like an anime style inspired. Where her face was human. Okay, sorry. Her face was human, but the rest of her body was looked like an actual robot, like it was metal. Okay, so she didn't have boobies. Right. No, well, she did, but it was because metal. Yeah, they were all it was all like but again, she was clothed because she was on the on the um catwalk. Um and this was uh the programmers at the Japanese National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology. What a mouthful. Um, they actually um had said that they wanted to make sure that it was sorry, uh keeping it from being too similar to a human, hoping that it commercialized the humanoid and to get yours, you can now pay two million dollars. But for why basically it was commercialized so that you could have like walking around humanoid robots.

Yep. Um, the video game Minecraft is released. Oh, right. And they released it while it was in development, and they released it. Like they released a playable version of it while it was still being developed, which meant you were do you were baiting the release, like the actual release. You were uh you were the test you and no matter what, yeah, when you paid for, you did that. Um so this was a weird one. Stephen Hawking he held a party for time travelers at the University of Cambridge. Um, he didn't send out the invitations until after the party. Of course, right? So that he could test his theory about time travelers being able to go back to the house. See who would show up. Yeah. Uh nobody showed up. And that left him to theorize that backwards time travel was likely impossible.

If it was just his close net or friendship, agreed, then he just his he kept his um test uh uh pool slow uh too small. Uh scientific method does not seem to have it, he didn't leave enough, uh yeah, enough sample size. Um uh Disney acquired Marvel. Okay. Now this one was interesting because it did launch the MCU, which was really big at the time because no one had ever done anything like this, where they actually released movies that tied together that then tied to other movies like the Avengers. Um that cost 4.24 billion dollars on that purchase. Wow. Now the weird thing is though that the first two movies in the MCU were actually released by Paramount, and it wasn't until uh the Avengers in 2012, which actually were like six or eight movies down, where they actually was released by Disney.
